Great review! I've got this Bumblebee but I didn't realise he was a pretender. I always thought it was some retool or something. Who knew! Thanks for sharing!

At some point after the Pretenders line they sold the robots without the shells. I had Bee, Jazz and Starscream when I was a kid but I never had their shells. I never even knew until recently that they were the Pretender versions.

Love how Bumblebee gets turned into Goldbug and then turned back into Bumblebee, that's some Megatron > Galvatron > Super Megatron levels of goofy

Hi, many thanks for the excellent review of Pretender Bumblebee. I had no idea about the backstory of this guy and the Classic Pretenders, and how it all ultimately led to the Matrix Quest story arch - will need to check it out. Always appreciate the background story and info you provide - also very cool, that the toy has a G1 cartoon accurate face sculpt.

This is the only classic pretender I had back in '89, and then I also had Vroom and Crossblades pretenders as well. They are all beat to hell and missing bits from years of hard play back in the day, since 5 year old me didn't understand that these things would be huge collector's items 30+ years in the future.

I love the classic pretenders. Their stories were good and interesting. Remember they played a big part in the final matrix quest saga, as they battled thunderwing and lost!!!

If you look closely at his vehicle mode he has the black stripes on the front that the live action movies use in his car modes.

Yeah, all the pretenders with the exception of Jazz are designed after there voice actors, which sucks because it would have been awesome to have a Scatman Cruthers figure.

I do like Bumblebee's Pretender figure quite a bit. He isn't as cool looking as Jazz and Starscream, but at least he does have an advantage over Pretender Grimlock: the inner robot looks good in both modes.

Jazz: Bumblebee, you've eaten too many doughnuts. Get on that treadmill right now!! Bumblebee: Aw, man, I just wanted win the contest!! (Nice review!! I do agree that he's a cool figure, just not the best Bumblebee in G1. Main problem is the proportions in robot mode, but otherwise, he's cool. Though I do imagine that the face plate change did a lot for the children in the 80s.)

They should have created several other classic decepticon pretender like pretender soundwave, shockwave or maybe blitzwing? But if blitzwing then he will be a triple changer classic decepticon pretender? That is just a mouthful.
