The big mistake was in drafting Drake Maye instead of trading down (and then trading down with one of the extra picks) in order to get more picks. Once you selected Maye instead of trading down for additional picks, you were, basically, paralyzed and committed to a "stick and pick" approach for the rest of the draft because you had insufficient ammo to move up. The results of that "stick and pick" approach we see here. The Pats ended up missing the runs on WR, OL, TE and RB and settled for the best of the rest in every case. Polk is not as good as the players taken right before him, and the same is true of the two offensive linemen the Pats took. It ended up looking like a massive waste of your early pick status. What we have here is a high floor/low ceiling bunch with a couple of flyers at the end. You had a choice of Maye and these 7 players OR no Maye and 10-11 BETTER players in every instance. I think that the latter would have been the better strategy. If Maye is Justin Herbert, then it's worth it. If Maye is closer to Sam Darnold, which is what I think you're going to get with him, then this draft gets an "F." If Maye isn't great, you've taken the massive asset of choosing third in every round of the draft, and turned it into the least possible value you could get from it, condemned yourself to mediocrity for the next five years, and the rest of the league thanks you. On top of that, the Pats' UDFA class seems among the weakest in the league as well, although Charles Turner is a good signing and will probably make the team. From my point of view, Eliot Wolf struck out over and over throughout this process.

I understand that take, staying put and taking Maye is deffinitly going to be a boom or bust since we didn't trade back, but I'm personally fine with giving Maye a chance because Maye has potentially the highest ceiling out of anyone in this class. I think the point you brought up in the case of the pats missing out on some guys is totally fair, one that sticks out to me is that they had to reach for Wallace in round 3 because most of the good tackles were taken before him. I actually do like the Polk pick though, sure he might not be as good of a player as someone like mcconkey potentially, but he is a great fit for the patriots since he's a much more physical reciever whos better with deep balls and contested catches, something the patriots are lacking at the moment as most of there guys like Kendrick Bourne and Pop Douglass are primarily slot recievers. Still though, thanks so much for watching the video and sharing your take!

best QB in the draft is NEVER a bad pick. Polk is a WR1 in the making. 2 Big wins for a first time staff is not bad imo!

@@davidrozemberg9295 Maye is the least developed QB in the draft. Worst of the top six in the pocket which is where NFL QBs operate. Poor footwork, as BB said. Prone to making bizarre throws to nowhere. Eerily alike to Sam Darnold (same physical size, same strengths and weaknesses, same college stats) when he came out. Time will tell if Maye can be fixed or if he becomes Sam Darnold. But "best QB in the draft" is daft.

possible given the state of the AFC East, pats are deffinitly the weakest of the bunch, (assuming Aaron Rodgers doesn't regress too much)
