Patriots Jet Team have a couple of their L-39 jets configured with special cameras developed by Helinet Aviation. They teamed up to film the aerial scenes for the new "Top Gun: Maverick" tm film. This video shows how the camera is mounted on the jet along with a promotional video that shows the fantastic capabilities of the system

That is awesome. Back in 2010 for the Sacramento Air Show my business partners and i the day before went up with them and were taken through their airshow routine. I believe"sticky" was my pilot. The CineJet concept is unreal and it's awesome it worked out so well. Those L-39's were intense.

Thanks for your comment. You might want to check out their Foundation, PJTF, www.pjtf.org/ and sign up for their info. Every Sep, they have a Gala to raise money for the kids and their STEM programs. Their last Gala featured "Hangman" as our speaker.

Absolutely LOVE the Patriots Jet Team. The Albatross are so QUIET and the pilots stone cold. Can not wait to see the Team again.

They did not go up in the Cinejet, but they did go up in another of the Patriots Jet Team's L-39's.

Cruise and Corden went up in the #5 jet. The #1 & #8 jets were fitted with the camera unit for the filming.

Don't get me wrong, I loved Top Gun: Maverick, and the Cinejet for making a lot of the shots possible. But as I understand it, the whole reason more movies aren't made with "real planes" is the exorbitant costs that come with filming them: paying the pilots, fuel cost, etc, etc. As I understand it, TGM is probably the last film to be made like this. So, beyond airshow filming and airline advertisements, isn't this technology destined to fizzle out, in short order?

American Made is another great movie by Tom Cruise who flies real planes with zero CGI. Top Gun: Maverick is a masterpiece that pays homage to the original 1986 film and aviation.

The USN paid for everything and all the airplanes you see in the movie are real airplanes ( the Patriot Jet Team, The USN Top Gun Pilots; The Cine- Jet, and even a Blue Angel Pilot - (the scene where the Dark Star takes off over Ed Harris is a Blue Angel and the scene were Tom Cruise did the run proving it could be done was the same Blue Angel pilot with Tom Cruise in the back seat). The patriot jet team provided L-39's that were used in the last 8 minutes of the movie were the two 5th gen fighters fight the F-14) The simply went in post production and used CG1 to ' reskin" the airplanes to make it into the F-14 and the SU-57) Same with Concept Airplane in the opening scene. It was an F-18 flown by the blue angel pilot and reskinned during post production to turn it into the concept airplane The rest of the movie were done with top gun students and instructions flying two seat F-18's with the actors in the back seat operating the camrea's
