He does have trouble creating separation, though, which is why all those better receivers went right before him. The Pats had to settle for Polk, after trying to move up, and failing, to get Xavier Legette who DOES get separation. This failing to acquire a WR who can get separation merely adds a receiver similar to Bourne and Osborn. Legette would have been a difference-maker. Polk will, at best, be another Bourne, duplicating an asset they already have. That's a disappointment. But the Pats pretended that Polk was the guy they wanted all along. But they're obviously lying as they DID try to move up from him. He was the safe pick after they missed their guy. This also happened with the OL. The OL picks were just the "best of the rest" after the Pats missed on the run of the good offensive linemen. Their picks are OK but they won't move the needle as much as the players taken right before them. This draft hinges on Maye, the player they took at #3 instead of trading down and acquiring other picks which would have allowed them to move up, down and all around the board as the Eagles did to draft they players they REALLY preferred. If Maye turns out to be Justin Herbert, then picking Maye would have been worth it. If Maye turns out to be closer to a Sam Darnold, though, this draft is an "F." Instead of the 7 players they drafted after Maye, if they had traded down, they could have drafted 9-10 players all better than the 7 they ended up with. So, it's Maye or bust. The best picks were the later ones. Baker and Milton have upside as does Jaheim Bell. Coaching will be the key to their development. We'll have to wait and see. Also, their UDFA class was pretty weak although Charles Turner has a good shot at making the team because Jake Andrews (not David Andrews) needs to be replaced. If Turner proves to be decent, he should get the opportunity to do just that.
