And don't forget if you are buying your own towels and bedding you will need somewhere to store the owners stuff. Also you will need to have two of each after all what are you going to sleep in when you do decide to launder your sheets. If you are renting for two or three months a year is there a company that stores all your gear whilst you are away and do/can they set up your accommodation the day before you arrive.. sounds like a business plan!

8:20 That rice cooker I blew up on the second use. The one I bought in the UK - German made - is a lot more idiot proof. The Thai one can't cope with drops of water inside, or mine couldn't. Blew the circuit breaker. If you're a cheap Charlie that rice cooker is your friend. Five baht of dry rice, one baht of electricity, you've got 825 kcals of starch. Chuck a 20 baht bag of curry on it, and it's your evening meal for 26 baht! The little bags of rice from the street carts are way more expensive than anything else for what you get, and fluffy, fresh rice cooker rice is better. I used to put the rice on when I went to the gym, and the "stay warm" function clicks on and keeps it warm. Come back having picked up a bag of curry and you can eat right away.
@DRock7977
@DRock7977 3 года назад
Can you cook anything else then rice in those?
@nottheguardian7955
@nottheguardian7955 3 года назад
@@DRock7977 There's a whole load of RU-vid stuff on that, but I wouldn't! It's a boiling vessel that shuts off when the vibration stops. Mine has a Teflon pan, so the rice comes out when I invert it as a big white disc. Once you add anything else in there you've more of a cleaning problem. The other big thing is a $30 induction plate and a cast iron (or other compatible) pan. That's the way to go for other cooking. A kg of chicken breasts is TescoLotus is only 60 baht. Cooking a load of them up to beef up (or chicken up) the protein content of street curries is a good move.
@DRock7977
@DRock7977 3 года назад
@@nottheguardian7955 Thanks good tips i wont use it for anything else then rice then. Im doing my first trip hopefully beginning of next year and im gonna rent a condo for 1 month. I like to cook my own food sometimes and even better if i have a lady friend with me that can help.
@nottheguardian7955
@nottheguardian7955 3 года назад
@@DRock7977 I eat like a dog. A healthy dog, but a dog. I need to shovel in a load, without too much sugar, fat, or junk. So doing a load of my own starch and greens, and then chucking a bag of chilli chicken livers on top of it, was definitely the easy option. Setting a rice cooker on the way to the gym is two minutes work, and every day - for that volume - it's saving me 25 baht, and I get hot, fresh rice!

The large fan was one of the best items that I bought, because when I first moved in I tried the aircon and checked the electric meter, OMG the wheel in the meter was going round like a helicopter. I only had the aircon on for 2 minutes in the two years that I lived there.

Hi Lucus, thank you for your insights, those Dollar stores are ideal for your basic set-up and you don't need to spend a fortune. My suggestion is to get the basics and then add to them as time goes by and you know your needs better don't go buying expensive items in the short term because you might move two or three times before you find the perfect place for you. To give a comparing idea. Setting up a house and How Much. I think we spent about Thb 550,000 to decorate a whole house. 3 bed and 3 bathrooms. But that includes furniture, build in closets, a washing machine, curtains all around the house, etc. As for all in and outside the house is was estimated Thb 1,000,000. But that included a western kitchen and to decorate the garden.

I recommend maybe a "Day at Thai IKEA" bit higher quality, bit more expensive, but I thought it was a good option for people moving into "bare" places. One great thing about Thai IKEA was that they still have the famous meatball meal... they also have very cheap delivery PLUS assembly at very reasonable price.

Thanks for taking time to share this valuable information. In your current condo ~ 1. What is the process to have something fixed that breaks? Such as the toilet? 2. If you use the dishes and kitchen electronics supplied in your condo and one breaks, are you responsible for replacement? 3. Does wifi come automatically in your new condo or did you have to set that up?

Contact the Juristic office if you need repairs, if you break it you may have to buy it, and there is usually free wifi in condo buildings but I always opt for my own secure connection.

Every condo is different in terms of paying your monthlies, You need to ask upon signing the lease about who and where you pay your electric and water. Either way it is very easy to pay, wouldnt worry too much about it.

I really think I would prefer to buy a brand new mattress, and maybe furniture anyway tho. I really don't like the thought of sitting or sleeping full time where others have. Anything longer than a hotel stay for a couple weeks is where I draw the line! 😉😅 But even having the bed/frame included is a bonus. I was totally expecting to buy a whole new bed and mattress! Not so I guess. 😃👍🏼👍🏼 Great episode once again boss! Some good tips. Thanks again! C ya when I C ya! 🍻

What’s the difference between a hotel or condo mattress they are both slept on by other people, you don’t change a mattress in a hotel lol

@@roygoad2870 Haha I know it's kind of silly. It's a strange preference I have. The difference being one is temporary, the other permanent. I guess I trust hotel cleaning staff more than I do a former condo resident to clean well? I know; what a weirdo I am! lol ; )
