A bias cut skirt is a staple in every girls wardrobe. Today I will show you how to make one for yourself. I recommend a silk or satin fabric for an elevated feel and look. I have used a left over chiffon fabric in the video and I must say I am thrilled with the out come.

the 45 angle at the hem is just in the front pattern or both? why is it important to make that angle? i didnt get it.

@@Cestyoo it’s for both. It’s not compulsory to add that part but adding it takes out the sharp triangle edge which makes it easier when sewing the hem.

So because it’s cut on a bias there tends to be some extra ease at the hip which is eliminated when we take away 1/2 inch. You can always try it without taking it off to see what you prefer. Hope this helps 😊

Thank you for this tutorial! Btw can you cut this pattern on the grain? Will it still have the same flow on the skirt?

If you cut it on the grain it definitely wouldn’t have the drape that a bias cut gives

@@IvysPatterns ohh I see thank you! Also I have some leftover satin fabric (it's a rectangle piece which would only be enough for a skirt) can you please recommend a skirt cut that would look good on it.

@Melb-qx1sq it really depends on your personal style.. I would make a semi mini skirt or even a mini and add a ruffle to the bottom just to make it fancier… depending on the weight of the satin you might need to line it. You could also make a slight A-shape… variety of options, it’s up to you really hope this helps 😊

Hello, thatk you for the tutorial. I have a question - you work on a basic skirt pattern that you created in another video but the pattern we finished there with and this one are a little bit different. The front doesn't have 2 folds and they're shorter. Does it matter? Should we combine the folds first to get 1 big fold on the front like on this video?

The block in this video is different. It’s the bottom half of a full dress block that’s why it has one dart. If you’re working with the block from my earlier video you can eliminate one of the darts. Hope this helps
