This was Patti at her powerful best - much better than Whitney's version. Patti didnt have a beautiful voice like Whitney or Aretha - with their agility - it was style and power over beauty and sound and agility - but she was a formidable entertainer in the early 1990s.

Obviously promoting was different then, the market wad primarily north America and Europe - and Franklin was revered across the western world as the greatest voice even before she really got started - her 6 year stint at Columbia which garnered little commercial success - established her as the greatest - she covered the jazz standards like nobody ever had before - or since. Then at Atlantic she had one million seller after the other - and went on to become the most charted female in pop music history. You're not very good at this are you.. And yes - she tops every music industry poll as the greatest voice in recording history. This is the Black Gospel Soul version. Whitney sang a great Pop version. I prefer listening Whitney's version dining at a fancy restaurant or Black Tie Event. No need to Go gospel on a song like this. Hurricane Patti. 😮😊
This is one of just a very few of Whitney's songs that I like, though I'm not a fan of hers. I like LaBelle as a person more, I can listen to her talk for hours. But as a singer, here she performs a horrible rendition of the song.
