Romero mc is not a church styled singer. she knows she can't sing that way. when Aretha Franklin and Mariah Carey sing Chain of Fools Mariah was trying..it was cute but..Whitney took it easy on her, obviously and still came out ahead. Whitney has a duet with the one and only Aretha Franklin Whitney won the battle. Mariah Carey cannot sing on stage with CeCe Winans..Cece what show Mariah Carey up and strength and power. This is the original version that aired on t.v and on vhs! I have both recordings and the CD(live one night only) all other versions on RU-vid are edited to make Mariah whistle louder. Patti drowned her out and everyone talked about it back then!
N Esq No ma'am not true. Patti voice is deeper and stronger than Mariah's. But when it comes to them higher whistle notes Ms. Patti don't want a day of Mariah! Mariah can definitely go higher than Patti. I heard the original, Mariah's whistle was very piercing
Well we know nobody is competing with Queen Mariah on reaching that top note. Not saying she couldn't be heard as their notes blended really well but everyone who watched the original broadcast said she was drowned out. Patti voice is super loud as I've heard it in person. Only other person competing for loudness is Jennifer Holliday when she hollers at the top of her lungs as I've heard it live also. But nobody is coming for Mariah in a high note battle. drowned.out
Yes yes guys stop comparing and lets start appreciating how amazing this performance now. Yes patti is a dramatic soprano so she's HELLA LOUD. And yes Mariah whistle was drowned out. But it can still be heard. And it still gives me some crazy goosebumps how powerful this performance was.
This is the undubbed or unedited version. The one in the other video uploaded by Mariah fans are enhanced (dubbed) to have a whistle note of Mariah. Patti's voice is powerful!

@@stormcloud7305 It is sad how uneducated lambs are! Some of us watched this live and have this on VHS! The length they can go to lie and obfuscate facts! First a whistle is made in false chords and has no core... A belt has the service of the chest a huge partt of voice production and core. Infact it is what gives squillo to a sound because of the overtones. The same reason opera singers will never use whistle and opt for head voice because headvoice is a blend of chest and falsetto. The reason they have so much overtones and penetration is because of the blending of falsetto and chest for a core supported sound. Whsitles are collapsed useless sound. They can not be heard past the first row of an opera stage! It is sad how uneducated lambs can be! They just believe delsuion and hype!

some say Mariah didn't hit the whistle note i say different bcoz after hittin the note she opened a twinkling smile and she had ear monitors it's used to hear how you sing so she hit it and there's something not most ppl know she was having vocal problems that time overall that was amazing hehe AMAZING PERFORMANCE :)
You did not hear the whistle of Mariah here because they both did hit the same note that's why it sounded just the same. But look at Mariah's face after she did that, man she really did enjoy this performance. :)
afanfrenzy3 Mariah hit an octave higher, you can faintly hear it. She would not have taken satisfaction in hitting a G#5 unless it was a belt (which she's never done in her whole career)
They should have performed "Lady Marmalade" though🤔 I say this because it's a big song where they both go high with the decibels especially Mariah Carey😁
This very performance sure is quite the real deal. Overtly, both had a rather great time singing together. Mariah hits the same note as Patti does. It's so much stupidity to belittle Mariah's whistle note just because it didn't sound as loud as Patti's. The beauty of that note @ 2:54 lies in the harmonization of the two of them. Mariah harmonizes a lot of her songs with background whistles when singing in chest voice, thus, they have the exact same texture of that pair of big notes that became one. All in all, I've enjoyed it all. Heart the two of them!
Patti was the one who was holding back, like somebody said, it sounded like Mariah may have been having problems like her throat was scratchy or sore... maybe Patti knew that and decided to let her shine.
Stop ya whining folks.. Patti hit a G#5 and Mariah hit a G#6 to amplify and harmonize with Patti’s G#5. If Mariah’s whistle wasn’t there, Patti’s belt won’t have as much vibrato.
@Jsbruels Thanks there. I wonder wether Patti dubbed this performance or Mariah actually sounded low that's why we can't hear her properly. Mariah should've done that too as she did in many other performances of hers.
@BabyLamb01 if you listen to it in robymbp01's video, you can hear the audio better and I think I can her Mariah going up the octave on Patti. (90% sure that's how that note went).
What happened was, Mariah's whistle got blended with the overtones of Patti's belt. It covers Mariah's singing. They may be singing the same note just an octave apart. You also have to understand, in the upper register, Patti has/had the loudest voice in popular music...or one of. But she mastered the coordinated chest register. With all these factors combined, it's no hope for Mariah to be heard in whistle registers. She is a lower soprano and doesn't have as developed a chest voice at that high pitch, that's why she opted to the whistle. You basically have to "shout" 3 consecutive notes and ascended as you go up to G# but STAY in coordinated chest. She tried to cheat but it ended up with her singing being inaudible. You can see her laugh because she knows what the legendary Patti gives. But she was honored. I mean, WHO can be heard over Patti in that era, especially not the 80's or early 90's. This was 98 and she was slightly declining due to menopause, but STILL!
The link you posted is the lamb edited "concept" version, this is the original version on the actual CD and DVD that was released by Patti Labelle in 1998.
@@xaniel666 The videos in which u can hear the whistle are edited... I have the DVD and I watched the concert when it aired on TV and there was no whistle... Sorry to say a fan edited in the whistle, but it's still a great performance
I don't think that Mariah whistled here, cause even though Patti's belt is more powerful, the whistle should be heard because it has a higher frequency... Maybe Mariah wanted to whistle but she couldn't not sure, all I'm sure of is that they should duet :D
Not true at all! Lower notes travel further. They drown out high pitches. The piercing effect of her whistle can slightly be heard but with patty belting the octave lower, she kinda drowns at the whistle.
@Random Person Lower notes in full voice will drown an unsupported whistle in false chords.. The reason why Opera singers use head voice instead of false chords like Whistle. First head voice has chest core note blended in. Chest give the overtones that allows you have squillo... Sorry a belt will drown out a whistle! Now the real question is will a belt drown out a head voice in modal voice! That is what you should ask or argue about! It is not about how high a note is.. It is about how is the note produced. Is it supported and a projectable sound with core.. Sorry Whistles are coreless...They can not be heard over an orchestra! You lambs should learn about voice!
