The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

Wrecking Crew drummer Hal Blaine would always gush over the fabulous Miss Patty Page. Love this era of established singers adding contemporary songs to their repertoire. I know there’s been a lot of meowing about this fact lately but I love it, and know others do too! So thx Ed Sullivan Show! Keep up the great work/wonderful posts!

I want them to post all the musical footage from the show. The issue is that they allegedly only have three years to do it, and we are nearing the halfway point. We all have our favorite eras, and I just hope they will show as much attention to covering the '50's and early '60's as they are to the later years. They have been doing a very good job, and this channel is a big highlight in my daily life, but I'd personally still like to see more of a balance between the time periods with more earlier music featured alongside the later footage. As stated, ideally, I'd love to see all the music footage posted in general.

Yes, those costumes are great! I find it interesting that, at a time when the networks were heavily promoting the fact that their shows were in _color,_ the outfits were all black & white. Add the subtle pastel colors of the set pieces and you get a notably understated design -- understated and very effective!

That was lovely. And I like the symmetry of the medley: fast (with dancers), slow, fast (with dancers), slow, fast (with dancers). 🙂

First of all, I want to thank you very much for posting this performance on the Sullivan show. It was Patti's last on the show and she picked some great songs to sing. In addition, I have to commend you on posting the entire performance in one video and not editing it! This is fabulous! "La La La (If I Had You)" was a Top 10 hit for Bobby Sherman around the time of this video, and is one of my favorite songs he recorded. "Winter World of Love" was a Top 20 Pop hit and Top 10 AC for Engelbert Humperdinck, and is a beautiful song. I'm sure everyone knows "Something", the George Harrison song. A wonderful performance by Patti Page, who was one of the most popular singers in the 1950's.

Love this video. The outfits and dancing were a little on the corny side but very representative of happier days in this country.
