Actually, in "Secrets of A Successful Marriage", (Season 5) Homer reveals, to his class, that Marge has been "gray as a mule" since she was a teenager, and she uses Blue Dye #52.

Their smoking is probably why Marge has a raspy voice too.

Despite all of Patty's flaws, I think it's super noteworthy that Patty does one thing for Selma that Selma is incapable of: "throwing away her last chance at happiness." Patty gave up romance despite her love with Skinner, all for Selma. Selma has left Patty many times for marriage- Sideshow Bob, Troy, and later Abraham Simpson, Disco Stu, and Fit Tony. Unlike Selma, Patty's selfishness ultimately lies with her bond with Selma- Selma's selfishness lies in finding romance and having a family. Even though Patty disregards Selma all the time and constantly fights with her (to the point of even Modern Simpsons Homer feeling sorry for Selma because of Patty), the two hold a deep bond and can't seem to function without each other (Puffless). The earlier seasons would give a more relatable, realistic dynamic of relationships- Patty and Selma didn't hate Homer for no reason, they hated him for being incompetent, making poor financial decisions, being a drunk, and always causing Marge to cry towards them when troubled by Homer opposed to newer seasons. The two were upset at Homer for causing trouble. But, The Simpsons made Patty eviler post-season 8. Despite how Patty is depicted as the eviler and trouble-causing of the two twins, she isn't necessarily heartless as even Marge's mother believes. If you pay attention closely, she is seen playfully hugging and pinching Bart/Lisa very early on and babysits them. While she is ultimately the one creating havoc with the Simpsons household, Patty isn't entirely a demon- she's also jealous of Marge and Homer because they hold what she does not.

That's a really deep and thorough analysis. Thanks for your comment! It is no secret that the older series of The Simpsons depicted the characters in a more natural form and the plot and personalities are more thoughtfuly written, while the later episodes are more about simple in-your-face jokes. But I've never thought of this side of Patty, which is a shame because reading your comment I realise that you're right.

@@The-Simpsons-Universe I would like to add that despite all of the implications Patty did not like Skinner during the first date- only indifference towards Skinner initially (admitting to even trying to "repel him" to Selma), going because of Selma, shaving and makeup and a nice dress only because of Marge/Selma, utterly hating the restaurant and movie (blatantly telling Selma that too), refusing to let Skinner touch her at the movie, no wanting to go on another date, and refusing to let Skinner kiss her. Skinner's date with Patty wasn't entirely one-sided. Despite many claims that Patty didn't truly like Skinner, I don't believe that's true. It's very evident Patty did grow to like Skinner- the few moments she did enjoy at the restaurant, movie, and even their walk back. Patty enjoyed her time with Skinner the second date and voluntarily dressed nicely for him. There's no other explanation why she continued to voluntarily go on more dates with him. It's obvious Patty even enjoyed her kiss with Skinner rather than just comply. Patty was genuinely sad too after rejecting Skinner- her face and voice. Why else would Patty sound genuinely sad when explaining her breakup to Selma? Contrast her behavior to her first date with Skinner. We can even debunk claims Patty rejected out of being a lesbian. Patty is heavily implied many times to have dated and hold intimate encounters with men many times. Patty is actually rather bi than a complete lesbian. Patty genuinely rejected Skinner for Selma- Patty was upset to see Selma on a date with a drunk and even Skinner commented Patty seemed to be preoccupied. One of the later Treehouse of Horror episodes even display Patty wailing and begging Selma not to leave her- she blatantly tells Selma she cannot function without her. These are one of the few subtle elements the modern Simpsons still retains true to this day- Patty and Selma. They'll always be my favorite characters of the show. ;)

I would say that Selma is somewhere between Patty and Marge. While Marge is pure goodness, Patty is pure evil... 😀

Another comment. It's surprising to notice how deep Patty's contrast is with Selma- if you pay close attention, Selma on her own is incapable of disciplining Bart and Lisa. Selma requires Patty in order to do so! Notice at the end of Goo Goo Gai Pan, Selma actually wanted to spoil Ling. I am led to believe the reason Selma tigerparents Ling is because of Patty! She is not emotionally-driven like Selma and holds strict guidelines. It actually is not a surprise to see Patty was the one that kept true to her word on quitting smoking, takes martial arts, and ballet after seeing this.
