Good video, keeping warm and comfortable is paramount, my warm gear isn’t dissimilar, but as an aside, if you have an Aldi close by, last few years they’ve done a fishing clothing range, my Mrs got me a couple of the thermal base layer sets, would highly recommend them, think they are as good as anything out there.
Thx for that Paul. Its interesting to see how as we get older we find the 'perfect' combination of clothing to suit us. Unlike the younger generation who seem to think they're on a fashion parade when fishing 😂😂
@@mattwright7780 Hi. I get some cheap ones off eBay, they’re called Le Hot heat pads. A friend of mine gets his from home bargain, but I don’t know what they’re called. Just make sure you get the ones that go on the outside of your clothing and not the ones you apply direct to the skin. They don’t make your feet hot but keep them warm enough for you not to think about your feet when you’re fishing.
Try rubbing vaseline on the back of your hands to keep the wind out ., The trouble with wearing gloves is your finger tips aways get cold so really your no better off . Tight lines .
Nice video again Paul. I personally recommend the diawa 2 piece under suit with the free neck warmer. Absolutely fantastic. Preston innovation have discontinued there version for whatever reason. Sundridge hot foot boots are also my go to footwear in the winter as I've found them much better for walking around in than Skeetex and just as warm.
The Daiwa under suit is the same one that Sundridge used to sell, sleep skin. I had one years ago, they are very warm and comfy. I get cold feet in normal winter fishing boots (I had a pair of hot foot), think I have poor circulation, one of my mates is in trainers nearly all year round!
@@the72inc73 I couldn't get a Sundridge one a few seasons back so that's why I have the Diawa version. Think it was when Preston stopped doing there,s so everyone went for the Sundridge suit instead. I believe Sundridge have stopped doing the hot foot replacement liners. Gutted .
It's about the right layers, not how many you pile on Base with good wicking - shell - outer is what you usually need I can highly recommend the Sundridge Sleep Skin, the best thing I bought to wear under my bib n brace (The Daiwa Sleep Skin is the exact same but £20 more expensive)
Class A Paul as always. Where the gloves are concerned I don't think you will take my advice, but here we go,I'm riddled with arthritis but I wouldn't use compression gloves I wear neoprene because the former in cold inhibit circulation! I don't put my gloves on till I'm ready to start fishing 10 minutes before I immerse my hands in the cold water for a minute then dry and put on my fingerless neoprene gloves! They get hot and it has a medical term which escapes me but it works. must check out your socks and the boots. Happy Xmas Paul to you and your wife 🎄👍
Thanks for the good feedback. The idea of putting my hands in the water fills me with dread, but I’ve heard of this before. I do have neoprene gloves so may give it a go! Merry Christmas to you and your family.
Great / helpful vid Paul. I’m still working on what I need…..heated gilet / socks look good. On hands, think someone else mentioned it too, I once saw a Matt Hayes vid & he plunged his hands in the cold water. After a few minutes his hands went / kept warm……….not tried myself tho?😂😂
Make sure you see the separate videos on the socks and gilet to see if they would work for you. The thing about putting your hands in the water - what if it doesn’t work!!
@@paulstacklereviews1695 seen all your vids Paul, incl the heated clothes ones, just not committed to purchase owt yet. I’ll try the ‘hands in lake’ & report back 😂😂
I put my hands in the lake on Sunday (to retrieve a rod rest….haha). It was v.cold initially but must say it calmed down & was fine for the rest of the day.
Hi Paul another great video. Thinking about buying the Halton Hunt pole jacket and would like your take on it. Did you order from HH or Wickersley Angling? Is it a very short jacket at the back and only really for use with the bib and brace or is it long enough at the rear to be used by itself? Any comments/ experiences good or bad would be appreciated.
I got the size large from Wickersley, I take large in everything so a good fit with plenty of room for layers but equally I’m happy wearing it over a t shirt if raining in summer. It’s a quality item as you would expect. Whilst it’s shorter than a 3/4 jacket I’ve just tested it in my garage and because it’s such a generous fit it doesn’t ride up at the back when moving your arms around. Whilst I’d be happy using it with overtrousers, in winter I think it would be an area where cold (but not water) could get in and bib and brace would be better. No negatives from me, the hood is great and you can slot the peak of your cap into a flap to create a very secure set up. Obviously totally waterproof.
@@paulstacklereviews1695 thanks Paul I also have the HH bib and brace and very happy with it hence looking to add jacket just concerned that the pole jacket would be long enough. Thanks for allaying my concerns.
@@paulstacklereviews1695 Paul is HH pole jacket more generous in large than the Drennan jacket in large. I use the Drennan 25k currently in large and with all my layers it is snug. Cheers
great review again. Are the fabrics of the clothes you wear breathable? I always have a problem with sweating when unloading luggage and preparing tackle for fishing
The t shirt, hoody and gore Tex jacket and bib and brace all have breathable properties. If I didn’t have heated clothing I may need more layers or thicker layers which might mean more sweating. I rarely walk with everything on.
I don’t have a HH windstopper, the HH jacket is the Waterproof pole jacket. The matrix isn’t fully windproof but has some waterproofing which means it’s more versatile.
Not at all. When I’m shopping for normal clothes I buy a large, everything in the video (base layer, tracksuit, t short, gilet, hoody and Halkon hunt gore Tex) is a size large. The Halkon hunt is loose by design.
