Lesley Stahl speaks to Microsoft co-founder and billionaire Paul Allen in his first interview about his upcoming book in which he criticizes his Microsoft co-founder, Bill Gates.
@@user-gk8yb9mk1o there's a huuuge gap between a mere idea for a piece of software and the actual starting point of (pseudo)coding it. That phase is called "invention" or "design" and society respects those efforts enough that it has invented patent law for it.
Rest in peace Paul Allen. I really could feel you talking about how you wanted to start a family... that part was so damn genuine it's shocking. RIP and I hope you are somewhere out there!...
Of course he has to play the roll...it’s all about big investment for Gates. He needs live living human lab rats to. practice on to market his medicines
She's a good interviewer, asked interesting and provocative if not irritating questions and allowed him to give answers. He's not political so she give him plenty of response time. In Politics though I've seen many dishonest interviews from this program that I'd deem Fake!
Just finished reading his Memoir, IDEA MAN...in the book PAUL,on so many occasions he rather praises Bill for his sharp and creative mind, was awestruck when he visited Bill’s house and learnt that Bill was an avid reader of the Fortune500 Magazine at age 12. Everyone saying PAUL is lonely and looks miserable clearly never read that book, he was a very happy man despite the vicissitudes of business. Read the book and you’ll get to understand his love for Rock,Jimmy Hendrix,Scuba Diving,Reading,Space Travel(though he never went up but put money behind) the Brain Institute And his ultimate desire to advance humanity. This guy lived his life to the fullest, loved life, his family,Sister Jody, mom and his dad. RIP PAUL and THANK YOU FOR WHAT YOU HAVE DONE FOR HUMANITY. YOU GAVE HOPE, and BUILT WATER WELLS FOR POOR PEOPLE IN AFRICA, YOU PLAYED YOUR ROLE AND COULD ONLY DO SO MUCH,NOW IT’S UP TO US TO CONTINUE WHERE YOU LEFT OFF. ✌🏿🇿🇦
listening to him talk about how gates hurt him is painful, listening him answering her about how he wanted to marry, have a family someday, even more painful. he was approaching 60 at the time and the emptiness in him was felt through the screen. he knew it'd never happen, though he could've easily got a young broad at the time and had a kid with his money/power. he ultimately preferred to be by myself. still, man lived a very successful life, success being in terms of his major contributions to society with Microsoft, philanthropy mostly in Seattle, and extraordinary financial worth.
For all of Gates talking about vaccinations and Public Health, why did he refuse to vaccinate his own young children? www.uspoliticsandnews.com/why-didnt-bill-gates-vaccinate-his-own-children/ "Vax for thee, but NOT for me." The guy doesn't add up! #DontTrustGates
Worked for Paul at his Estate on Mercer Island in the 90s. His Mother Faye was a rock for him. When she passed, I'm sure that had a difficult effect on him. He never married - it seemed the women around him were more predator than prospective spouse - that was sad because finding his 'Melinda' would have been special. I should note for the record that when Mary Gates ( Bill's Mother ) passed away, Paul was one of the first people Bill came to visit. I missed talking to him in the spring of 2018 at the Original Pancake House in Portland - I should have stopped him but he looked in pain. He died a few months later - so, I should have - I owed him a 'thank you.' I imagine Jody ( his sister ) runs the whole enterprise at the moment - and I hope she proves worthy. No matter what people think, I saw him with his mother and he was a very good son and a good person. RIP.
He wasn't "In remission", the palative drugs just made it easier to believe he was not getting worse. There are many many NUMEROUS fact proven cases of Cannabis Oil causing total cancer cure. Big Pharma doesn't want anyone to believe in anything but their trash made synthetic versions !!! Now,as IT is becoming mainstream, they claim to have INVENTED IT !!! Sounds just like a Russian doesn't it ??
Thank you so much, Paul Allen. Rest in Peace. Even though I only got to learn about you recently, I am in awe of your philantrophic contributions and ideas. I also understand that you just want for people to hear your side of the story. And I think I understand you. Regardless of what people might say, I think you are really a great guy. Thanks for being a great inspiration 😊
It's amazing how young these guy were; Paul-15 & Gates-13, when they started their path. They were KIDS but they had the business/technical sense of professionals. This was not simply luck... These guys were destined for success.
um both have perfect SAT scores , went to private schools and had the best and latest computers to play around with. They went to Ivy leagues schools. They were as WASPy as they can get, they were already born for success not destined.
yiffy addict true, but nobody forced them anyway. They had more privileges than most, true. But they still had the talent, drive and will, too. Probably, had any of these ingredients weren't there, maybe they hadn't made it and there would be no Microsoft today. Bill Gates was one of the hardest workers in their time, no matter he was well off. Actually Paul Allen couldn't keep up with his pace, and along an illness he decided to step out of Microsoft. I bet many if not most 'rich kids with all privileges' grow up spoiled and never do any relevant in their lives.
joetube01 With their intellect and gates ambition, they would have been successful if they were both born in a trailer park, but not billionaires. gates would be running an IT department for some university or mid level defense contractor making 200K a year, and the same for paul, except he would have died of cancer 20 years ago. But with the advantages the did have growing up, they could have been lazy slackers and still have a better life than most of us enjoy. being born upper middle class or richer gives you a huge advantage, it also gives you the freedom to take risks, Microsoft was barely making it for years before the IBM deal but they were able to push through because they had the safety net of their families to fall back on if they failed. if they were born poor, they might have thrown in the towel long before 1981.
Actually, it was more that they were at the right time at the right place, and road the bear as far as they could. A lot of people came to the party 5 years too late.
Summary: Bill, a ruthless pragmatist. Paul, a visionary who likes to indulge on almost everything. Both with different personality but both can get along with each other well
When you just want the truth to be known, how things affected you, cause and effect, people love to say you are bitter. Its demeaning. It isn't about bitterness, it's about Justice.
I don't sense great man. I sense smart (especially coding software) and lucky with the timing of everything. . He seems empty. listening to him talk about gates was painful, listening him answering her about how he wanted to marry, have a family someday, even more painful. he was approaching 60 at the time and the emptiness in him was felt through the screen. he knew it'd never happen, though he could've easily got a young broad at the time and had a kid with his money/power. he ultimately preferred to be by myself. still, very successful life, in terms of his major contributions to society with Microsoft, philanthropy mostly in Seattle/Oregon, and extraordinary financial worth.
I sense he was a great man with deep sadness inside him wanting to be recognized for his fair share of work done at Microsoft. Sad to see how he responded about finding a soulmate in life and getting married. Sigh....RIP, Paul Allen.
@@elonmuskfunnymoments8062 dude the video on your channel "Bill Gates interview: How the world will change by 2030", you just took it from The Verge. Please tell me what does that mean? Stop stealing content my friend.......
i know im asking the wrong place but does anybody know a tool to log back into an instagram account? I somehow forgot the account password. I would love any tips you can give me.
He is like Howard Hughes 2.0 I think. Only sane and doesn't have the mental illness Hughes battling with thankfully, although Allen has battled cancer twice now.
@@amyb2646 yeah there is a video of a group of dudes throwing pie in his face as he was walking into a building. No matter how I feel about Gates that reaction from those guys was still stupid.
Friend of mine was a high school classmate of Paul. Never believed him until Paul showed up in Beijing (where my friend and I lived) for the 2008 Olympics. I got to see what billions can do for you.
It's not unusual for business partners, marriage partners, musical partners to have heated/serious disagreements. Sometimes such differences break apart partnerships, sometimes they reconcile, and sometimes they grow, settle their differences, and grow again. It's a natural process. This process was well illustrated in the play "Patterns" by Rod Serling way back in the fifties.
Watching this awhile back really opened my eyes to Bill Gates. Paul Allen was almost destroyed by his partner, that shows the evil of Gates to destroy Allen while he had cancer.
Gates is brilliant and was fast, you dont build an empire with hypocrisy and BS. Paul Allen was a genius by its own right. Their friendship lasted for as long as it was needed. Have some respect for both of them.

Quite funny how, just like in the UK a 15 year old back then looked like they were in their late 20s :) he would of fitted in well on Bullseye I think they also were at the perfect time for making it big. With the computer market just kicking off. Its possibly more difficult now because of so many established companies but then you might be able to argue its easier because of so much easy access to programming guides.
Was disappointed, two partners disagreeing yadda yadda...big news regarding the brain institute and collaborative science and his vision to enable global research projects to understand autism, Alzheimer’s, BIG NEWs and leadership from this brilliant man and she wants to gossip. He was so gracious and she missed an opportunity that few receive.
After watching this I've been thinking about how amazing it must have been for him to grow up and live through that time working with Bill Gates and seeing technology develop at a unbelievable rate. I wonder how he feels to be one of the people partially responsible for what is now a vital part of all our our lives.
Paul Allen did not get the credit that he should have gotten! He was a visionary and such a big philanthropist too! His legacy of excellence will continue. Its true that Bill was a tough businessman(and quite controversial too), who competed vigorously with his competitors but now he's a changed man. Paul did not hold any beef against him. He just wanted to express his side of the story. Its been a long time since all that drama happened and I hope God shall bless both of them and forgive if they made any mistake. (RIP Paul Gardner Allen)
In the book Memoirs, Paul Allen is fair and both praises and criticizes Bill Gates. But I feel the interviewer is prejudiced against Bill Gates and is trying to draw a dark picture of Bill Gates. This whole video seems biased.
