Back in the days (I'm 73) you ALWAYS dressed up WHENEVER you left the house no matter where you were going. Just to go to the store, the guys would change into something nice (casual) and females would put on a decent dress, fix their hair, and put on some make-up. Even as kid, we always heard Mom or Dad say, "We're going to the store! Take off your 'play clothes' and put on something nice, wash your face and comb your hair." Back then we cared about our appearance.

@@grandpafischer8317 Yes! Us boys had 4 pairs of shoes. 1) Dress shoes: For Weddings, Funerals, Church, etc. 2) Good shoes/Schools shoes (Don't EVER get caught going out to play with your school shoes on!) 3) Play shoes: Usually P.F. Flyers or Keds Tennis Shoes (usually just called "Tennies") 4) Gym Shoes: Same as above but kept at school in our gym locker. At the end of the school year they would become our "new" play shoes and we would get a new pair of "gym shoes" at the beginning of the new school year. Yes! They were called Tennis Shoes! NOT Sports Wear, Active Wear, Cross Country Trainers, etc...

@@bella-xp7qd It's amazing what women will wear out in public ... ratty old pajama pants and an equally ratty t-shirt or sweat shirt... and please don't get me started on all the tattoos and piercings. LOL I long for the days when women looked, dressed, and acted like "Ladies".

I'm 70 and couldn't wear pants to school until 6th grade. Girls had to wear dresses or skirts no matter the weather. . Paul Anka started performing professionally at 11, and began composing songs in high school. Anka's hitmaking started early: at 16, the kid from Ottawa had his first number 1 hit in the United States with Diana, a song about a slightly older object of affection. Hot on Diana's heels were Lonely Boy and Put Your Head on My Shoulder. He wrote My Way for Frank Sinatra.

Hello, Andrei and Dominika: Nice reaction to one of our great Canadian singers. My favourite two by him are Do I Love You and The Times Of Your Life. Our local am radio oldies station plays lots of his songs. One day I was singing along to this one in my newly developed deep, manly voice just as Rhonda walked by the aisle I worked in. When she heard, "Put your head on my over the shoulder boulder holder", she just about landed on the floor she was laughing so hard. Good memories. Paul is from Ottawa.

That was the thing about parenting back in the day. If your parents said to do something then they meant business. If dad got involved then it was time to run for shelter because we kids were not doing as we were told and there was about to be consequences imposed! LOL! Not everything parents did and said was sensible, as we now realise, but they had our best interests at heart (usually) and now looking back we appreciate much of it. I remember my mom imposing a half hour period after we ate where we could not go swimming. We would get cramps and drown was the reason. We now know that is nonsense and not backed up by any medical authorities, but back then it was the law in our house and it was "like it or lump it." Ha, ha! 🤣😂🤷💖

This was the time of sweet, innocent & romantic songs. Not like a lot of the garbage played today. It was a completely different era. Paul Anka is a Canadian singer, songwriter & actor. He was considered a teenage heart throb. He had hits in the 50's-60's such as "Diana", "Lonely Boy", "Puppy Love" etc. He wrote songs for some of the biggest singers such as Tom Jones & Frank Sinatra & co-wrote 3 songs with Michael Jackson.

Yes, Andre, I believe you are correct that that young lady was not single. The guy on her right looked angrier by the millisecond. When Paul pinched her nose, I thought he was gonna jump out of his chair. The girl didn't look too comfortable either. Whoa! Slow down Paul!!! Who do you think you are, Elvis? Hahaha Prob a close second though.

When my mum, born in the 30's went off to boarding school, she had to have a knee length white dress for formal wear, once a week, with a gathered skirt. For a school dance, she and a friend, made a long skirt to wear over it, with crepe paper and coloured frills on it. They stood back to back and held up the extra skirt to make a rainbow. She said later they were fortunate nobody spilled anything on them. The dye would have been awful to get out of white cotton. People used to dress formally very often back then apparently. English farmers seem to have worn jackets over trousers too.

The conversation about dressing up reminded me that back in the 1960's when commercial air travel became more common, everybody dressed up like that to take a flight. Not anymore! Paul Anka's first big hit was 'Diana' when he was just 17 years old. Written by him, it was famously about a crush he had on his childhood babysitter! It went on to sell 20 million copies! At the time it was very unusual for pop stars to write their own songs, and he was particularly rare for being so young. Put Your Head On My Shoulder was a followup (like a year later) when everyone knew & loved Diana. Other reactions you should consider are of course 'Diana' and his hit years later with 'Having My Baby'. He also wrote 'My Way' which is arguably Frank Sinatra's most famous song.

It's probably oversimplified to say the music from back in those days was more pure and wholesome but there's an element of truth to it and I think that's a main reason I like so many songs from back then. Yes, the music itself is pretty but the lyrics are reminiscent of a more innocent time - much nicer than the lyrics of too many modern songs. Course ... I'm a 70 year old geezer, so ... 🙂
