I do find it strange how sometimes people feel that they have to work it all out. As I have tried to explain so many times in my life, when you watch ANY kind of magic show/performance, you are watching a drama, a play, performed by an actor playing the part of someone with the ability to defy the laws that bind us to the planet. So... enjoy the play and dream the dream.

***** It seems to be a modern trend wherein TV performers blend camera editing/trickery in with performance magic. I'm not a fan of that genre. The simple rule when we were making our TV shows was, if we can't do it for real, in front of a real non-stooged audience, we don't do it.

Dear Paul, Amazing stuff! Am watching your work after nearly 20 years. You were the first "entertainer" I watched in the early 80s when I was in my single digits - your magic was fun and not a mind-freak! ;) I still have some of your shows on VHS tapes. And thanks to youtube, I can now introduce your magic to my 6 year old daughter in India.
Since I was a little boy aged 6 my brother and i always enjoyed watching you perform your magic,you always made more of the trick than just a trick mixing with a comedy twist, class magic,very entertaining..thanks Paul,your my hero...😉
Dear Paul, after all these years I came across on your RU-vid channel. I was watching your shows on tv 30 years ago as a kid and found them absolutelty fantastic. Mr. Daniels, I watched you and your son preform on Fool us with Penn and Teller. And that was brilliant. I'm a beginner magician and only know a few slight of hand routines and want to get started on the cups and balls. I laugh so hard watching your Chop Cup because I can't even keep up. I love it! Im currently on a continuous viewing spree of your magic tricks Paul haha Im 19 years old and im really not a fan of the big and extravegant tricks. I prefer the smaller ones. This trick has such a plain and simple look to it but it BLOWS MY MIND. Youre without a doubt my favourite magician and not only because of your tricks but because of the way you engage the audience! So fun to watch. Some of this is absolutely hilarious! I wish you could come back onto TV like you used to years ago so people my age could see you and just how awesome you are. Even a tour would be great. Id love to see your love performances. Anyway i just wanted to say youre amazing and just hilarious hahaha keep the videos comin!

Usually such levitation tricks on a big stage involve fork lifts hidden behind the curtain, but this doesn't look the case here, so I assume the trick is hidden under the curtain, I wont spoil it, but it is an awesome trick, very clever and well made, and Paul Daniels still got amazing spiel for the presentation! Should be on TV! We miss you Paul!!
Great illusion... I know what Paul means when he says he is having so much fun doing live shows.... I rank him alongside Doddy... you HAVE to see him live... he is BRILLIANT LIVE! ... and what a very nice man he really is.
I watched you're video on making magic interesting, and you turned a floating trick into a box filled with Everest air.. brilliant! and also , I saw some of your cups and balls routines and as a result I made my own and posted it on my channel. Thanks for all the laughs, Paul.
As a twenty something lad about town, PD was the bore of Saturday night in the 80's. As an aspiring beginner magician at 50 odd years old, the guy is an absolute genius. Yes, I can see what is happening, no, I won't say. And even if you do know, the execution is a thing of beauty. Be entertained, for goodness sake. And if I can ever do Chop cup even a tenth as well as PD, I will be proud. A national treasure and I am slowly watching all those shows from the 80's on uchoob. And if he made a mint, he deserves it IMO. Well done PD, and if you do find the time to answer, which do YOU think is your best performance on uchoob and how many practices did it take? I really do enjoy all the different aspects of magic so I don't have a favourite trick. In any case I don't think it's for me to say; that is for the viewer to decide and all I hope is that they like more than one :) Best Wishes.
Ahhh... I can understand you thinking that. The box has to be placed carefully to make sure you don't 'catch' any of the cloth underneath the box. If you do, when you rise upwards you can't lift the cloth to the height you want it to go without running the risk of tipping the box over.
I have been trying to convince my wife that, although the likes of Dynamo and Derren Brown are brilliant at what they do, Paul Daniels really is a master craftsman. A terrific illusion, sir.
I like being fooled with magic but HATE camera tricks or edits. Another reason why Paul is still a master as all perfect slight of hand etc with NO camera tricks or edits.
Ideas? From books, magazines, dealers, imagination. I seem to have an instinct for what might be a good trick and for how to make it interesting or entertaining. Kettle? I did it two different ways and I don't know when I'll upload it ... sorry.
Can I ask you Paul who comes up with your trick ideas? Have there been any that in theory sound great but just couldn't work in the end? I always remember the kettle trick you did that would pour out any drink that was requested! that is a great trick but have been unable to find it on RU-vid! I was lucky enough to see the Great Muthukad with his self made Indian Rope Trick at the Stockholm Water Festival. He told me it was mechanical but he never gave away the secret.
I am always trying to work tricks out,lol. A trick on The Mind Freak Show, on digital, looked to have been heavily edited as you could see the film jump. Not possible with a live audience, lol.
I am wondering in what line of work is it required to be able to spot a wig? And who cares. It makes no difference with or without that Mr Daniels is an amazing magician and personally if he were to return to TV tomorrow I would watch him. My earliest memories of magic contain the Bunko Booth and asking the audience to walk all the way around the props. Thank you for you years of entertainment. Neil

Yes, David was honourable enough to not only ask permission but also to make a sizeable donation to a charity I support. You are right in that I did invent the entire illusion.
No.. they don't. This was shot all in one take in front of an audience. One box from start to finish. If you can't see the knife marks then that could be something to do with lighting, camera angle or whatever, but they are still there.
A great illusion - and if I may say (with respect) the fact you are 'not as young as you once were' makes it appear even more impressive... but I think I know how you did it. Is it magic? ;-)
This Theatre looks very much like a theatre in my city which held magic show a while back. Though it is very unlikely. May I ask, was this in South Australia, Adelaide?
Well not only are you rude you are also so very wrong in so many different ways. Firstly, like most of the media, you never came to a live show and saw some of the gags that I did with it. As for being cut down it is very easy to 'have a go' in retrospect whereas the truth is the media never spotted it until the wig maker told them (which I didn't mind) that I had one.... THEN it was obvious,It was never a secret and I used to love sneezing at parties and sending it flying across the room.
Nope... although I had seen this version it didn't fulfil what I wanted to do... be able to do it absolutely surrounded, pick the box up and show right through it and flatten it and so on.
Some magic tricks I can figure out how it was done or almost, for instance this one, since you did not move the box and the curtain, I can say something hidden beneath the floor that help you to levitate. In other hand, some other magic tricks are really very hard to explain that you already did them and other magicians too.Thanks
Mohamed Khan Mohamed ... ALL 'magic' is illusion and conjuring. I am not going to tell you on here how this works. It is my own invention. I will tell you there is no gate, no trapdoors, no electronics.... why not just enjoy the illusion and the presentation?
I like the effect,I just noticed after you had demonstrated the box was normal,but with two cutouts, you replaced it carefully as if it needed to be placed round something that was hidden by the blue cloth. By-the-way,I saw your Brixworth show and had a good time.
When I saw him he had a shorter rope because he was on an elevated stage and he took a boy from the audience to climb up it. However, I fooled him after the show with a tear restore cigarette routine. I never gave away the secret!
Big illusion or simple magic. The important thing is we do apriciate and injoy what magicians do. Now if you don't belive in magic then watch other video that could intertain you. I'm not a magician but I do love magic.
That may be correct. even still, the very shape of that thing just makes the whole thing feel somehow wrong. It looks climbable. If you are not climbing anything (which you are), then you may need to work on the exact shape of that boxy thing. Otherwise a great performance ;)
