Great player, great lesson for a naif like me. It is a little fast for me to follow so I played it at half speed. I could follow it then but more importantly, his voice sounds HILARIOUS! Like a nodding out junkie trying to teach guitar...
Paul, Been in awe since the Shrapnel, days, still have those cassettes, got your and Billy's autographs, in Hallandale Fl. like we grew up together, you just get better, and have made me a better player too, just got the Nick Johnston CD, with Trick Question, WoW! All the new guys have been influenced by you.
Alright I’ve memorized at least 3 or 4 of these patterns and have been practising them every now and then. How can I implement these patterns into soloing or improvising now ? Would love it if someone can let me know another video where Paul or someone else shows how to do that
Killer Queen caught by the guillotine! So cool PG and "clear" the way you introduce the idea/concept of a Major chord's relative (related) minor chord. Using a simple scale in this example C, descending the "entire" scale (10 notes) with the minor chord in mind, then descending the same scale again with the major chord in mind. Stop at the "8th note" and you have a completely different "mood", not "mode" - MOOD. The inverse would be its relative major. And PG says he can't explain music theory. I seriously disagree my friends.
raj rajesh pause it and repeat lol... it takes work to play the guitar. Not everyone is going to teach at a snails pace. You should be happy there are videos of Paul Gilbert teaching how to play. Good luck
if hes playing to fast for you to figure out what hes doing your probably not quite ready to jump to this level, im not trying to knock your comment or criticize but there are videos that will help you to train your ears to pick up notes better. you can also learn this scale in a 2 note per string box pattern which may help you more
Maybe this very old video of his could help you, he also isn't playing slow there but it has tabs. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8Xd-WTmNvqk.html
One thing that might help you is to go to Settings for the video (search the "play button line"), and there you'll find Speed. Try something like 0.75. Too fast? Try 0.5, and so on. Nice thing about videos is they have things like this, and a play/pause button.
