Paul: What is amazing to me is that somehow, you have captured not only Dio's phrasing in his vocals with your guitar, but you've somehow managed to capture the tonal quality of his voice with your guitar tone. When the first lick comes up, I swore I heard Dio singing "mmmmm" - and then I realized it was your guitar! This is exceptional work, and a job really well done. Dio would be proud!!!
@@darrengodfrey1614 John 5 has got to be the most overrated uninteresting guitar player alive. I get hes technically very skilled, but man I cannot stand him!
16 years ago as a young teenager buying his first Epiphone Les Paul I sent Paul Gilbert a slew of emails with questions and gushing about his Scarified music video. He replied to all the emails and thanked me for listening to his music. Not all giants are out of our reach.
There can never be too many tributes to the greatest metal voice of all time! I never expected a guitar virtuoso tribute, but not surprising the great Paul Gilbert delivers from his heart to ours!!! 🤘
I like how you remained true to the style of Vivian Campbell's original solo without copying it note for note. Taking the intro and certain phrases exactly and embellishing the rest with some blistering flash that still rings true to his feel and technique was very impressive.
people using his old clips and vhs tapes have more subs, crazy how these things on internet works. but makes sense if you think about it, he's not trying to please the algorithm when he's uploading anything. For example this video could have a face of him surprised or something on the left, and dio's angry face on the right in the thumbnail. also titled as "would ronnie like this if he was alive today?!" i think he would get way more subs and views if that was the case. Kiko or kiko's channel manager does it to some extent. but again, i think paul's intention is to have an online presence, whereas kiko probably trying to reach as much as of audience possible with his mentality of teaching and serving fans.
The section at 2:14 is so amazing how he harmonized the vocal guitars and just made everything flow so amazingly, it sounds just as epic as Dio created it to be
Wow! Paul we love you ❤Every your video is a gift! 🤘🏼 I can hear your voice and your kind heart through your guitar! RIP Greatest vocalist ever -Ronnie James Dio
I will be 26 soon. I've been listening to you since i was 13 years old and you've given me a lot as a guitarist. I love not only your music, but also his humor and creativity. I had just started playing the electric guitar when I discovered you. And Holy Diver was the reason why I started listening to metal music. Now Paul, who has been my idol for 13 years, and this song that has a special meaning for me are together. You have a very special value to me. Unfortunately, words are not enough to describe my feelings. Thank you Paul for all the positivity you bring to my life.
Funny man. I'm 27 and I feel like I could have written this. Paul Gilbert and Dio were like my introduction to the new and old of the genre. Rock on my friend 🤘
I am 53 and started listening to Paul back in the 80s when he was with Racer X. Definitely contributed to my own style. Makes me feel good that the good metal is passing to another generation. Keep playing Keep shredding.
I am so fond of Paul, the Virtuoso Guitar player, The Maestro Musician and a truly Wonderful Human being. His each note has Gilbert written them. God bless and love from Bangladesh 🇧🇩 🙏 💜💜
Actually another great did this kind of thing years ago. Peter Frampton did Blackhole Sun like this and it is also badass. Paul And Peter should collaborate. It would be insane
ROFLMAO!!!!!! ya Paul is the only guitarist who plays guitar!!!!!! OMG. buttlicking statements like this are why RU-vid SUCKS stupidest shit I have ever heard!!!!!!!!
Ehhhh not really. His solo is the lyrical melody line..so that's already written. He played Vivian's solo which is already written. But. It's great. Just only Paul can do it. Anyone really could and happens all the time
Man, this must be the first time that I hear the vocal part of a song being played on guitar with an actual regard for the inflections of a singer. So much attitude.
Man, the way the guitar harmonies come in so similar to the vocal harmonies and whatnot is amazing. Multiple tracks in the same Places the vocals are doubled. Another remarkable venture into being both amazing and embracing fun!
wow! such a presise voicing and phrasing, attention to the small things in voice and vocal/ponounce.. Paul, you are super cool, as always, god bless you)
I had my phone sitting next to my laptop as this was playing, and it's AI told me that I was listening to Dio's "Holy Diver." Paul's phrasing is so good even the robots can't tell the difference! Outstanding.
I grew up hanging out in Ithaca N.Y. Ronnie grew up just a dozen miles east. He's such a huge inspiration to all the kids with guitars and dreams of making great music someday. Paul has effortlessly pulled the spirit on Ronnie into what is sure to be a classic album for decades to come. Thanks Paul!
Paul is expanding his slide and wah voice to a new level. I enjoy watching and listening to your guitar progression these last 30+ years!! well done!!!
Sounds amazing! Would have been fun to see a live version of this song with the band Last in Line. Paul Gilbert and Vivian Campbell on the same stage would have been cool.
I'm astonished. I've heard this glorious song hundreds of times. But a guitar genius, you Paul, can give it another perception. I never thought I would listen to such a glamorous virtuosity. And yes, as some were saying, I feel Dio even his timbre. Excellent 🤟👏👏👏
Thát is such a brilliant emulation of the human voice - you really played it to capture RJDs way of singing, even if you can obviously hear it isn't a real human voice. Outstanding effort!! The little man would've been proud, no doubt 🙏
I love Paul's enthusiasm. He is articulate, interesting generous as a teacher and has a great sense of humor. They're is still so much to learn from him as a guitarist and composer .Greetings from Colombia, South America.
I was SO lucky to se him during the "Last In Line" tour back in the day... with his voice, combined with Vivian Campbell's guitar.... it was heaven... R.I.P. Ronnie... You captured his essence perfectly, which I had no doubt...
I've heard other musicians manage to express multiple guitars in a composition while only playing bass, but I've never heard someone manage to translate a singer's vocals so recognizably as lead. It's like every syllable of Dio's lyrics is being distilled to pure electrified tone
great performance!! Paul!! I feel Ronnie is still alive with your guitar tone! You make me miss Dio so much!! I think how about using different guitar tone when you play Vivian Campbell's solo part?? I understand you wanted to focus on just Dio himself!! Anyway, thank you so much for your phenomenal job!!
I don't think I've ever heard a guitar capture and replicate the subtle nuances of a vocal performance this well before. This is really extraordinary and frikkin awesome.
The rhythm tone sounds like a Tube Screamer plugged straight into a stereo; like a Peavey Mace played through a stack of horn tweeters...think "China Grove" guitar tone surrounded by a tin can full of pissed-off bees & you get the idea.
You, sir, are a blessing to the world. I am still trying to get over you pulling off "Gonna Fly Now" last time you played in Chicago (suburban St Charles - please come back to Arcada Theater!). Frankly, I am still trying to get over being first introduced to you in 1986, when a buddy said "you've gotta hear this guy". First saw you live in Champaign, IL, 1989, in a small club above an arcade w/ Mr Big. Now my son (22) and daughter (20) are huge fans as well.
Damn that solo was a bowl of tasty licks!! What is so cool is his tone and choice of licks sounds like it was part of the song in the 80's. It takes Vivian's solo to another level. Paul, as always, surpasses everything and everyone in the guitar world. He is the best.
It's like you turned Dio into a Queen song entirely voiced by guitar. Such a creative and brilliant direction your playing has taken, Paul! Awesome stuff.
@@McLeanAB88 he’s always evolving and finding new ways to contextualize the “guitar record”. I feel like I’ve put on stuff from “Beehive Live” that my non-guitar playing friends unironically enjoy. Always humble, funny, virtuosic, musical.
