My favourite from the album. Started out thinking it was a bit odd, but it's really grown on me. I especially like the intro melody, and how it comes back in at 1:17. Paul you sure write some nice tunes.

Paul Gilbert and Buckethead are in a class of their own when you add in all the variables (originality, creativity, use of effects or the lack thereof, phrasing, technique, speed, etc). Not a big fan but John 5's versatility is legendary as well.
@jordanlea1502

Mike Hink you forgot Guthrie govan erotic cakes, or maybe you haven't listened to it yet? It's a hard one to forget....
@billholt174
@billholt174 6 лет назад
I dig John 5, because he is versatile, as you say. I like his Country Chicken Pickin'. That said, his playing with Rob and Marilyn doesn't showcase him broadly, and what I've heard of his solo material honestly didn't captivate me. It sounds like he's stringing notes together just because they theoretically work, and his stuff kinda leaves me with the impression that he thought "Fuck, I'll put all of this wild shit together in a musically bland mix to show off my skill." He gets a 'High 5' for taking a Tele into a musical genre where no Tele has gone before. ; ]
@billholt174
@billholt174 6 лет назад
Jordan Lea -- Guthrie is unreal. Still, there are those critics who have to bash him. Guthrie is one of these badasses who I could just listen to in a clinic-type setting all day, wailing and explaining. He's accessible and effective as an educator, and hi intelligence and dry wit take him '"to 11."

Regarding "Pinball Wizard anyone" bubble caption... IMHO not a rip off. 1000's of songs have a suspended measure followed by the resolved chord. The song in its entirety resembles no other song I've ever heard. The Time signature changes and the chord structures and inversions are very original and innovative. If you pick apart every two chord measure of any song you can say it sounds like another one. However, Paul is not above paying tribute to other artists in subtle ways in his music and he is very open about it when he does. If you asked him on one of his sites he would tell you the truth whether he did or not.
@billholt174

Nice, thoughtful, informed opinion. ; ] For the reasons you cite, in essence, I place Paul at the top of the proverbial list, although I always state in comment sections that there *_IS no_* 'best'. He's one of them. Paul's all you give him credit for being. He let me tape a clinic he did back in 1995, just before Halloween. *_SOMEDAY_* I'll get the clinic on RU-vid. Bits of it were up, song-by-song, through a cool third-party chick who my friend, also at that clinic, had met online. Pablo Gilberto is a great guy. A Bach cello piece on every album, and due to his fame as a shred giant, he's *_woefully_* unrecognized as one of the most gifted rhythm guitarists to ever do the up 'n' down. Too much of a gentleman for the 'Djent'. ; ]

My favourite from this new record so far. 0:00-1:30 reminds me of 70´s style Queen, the chords from 1:30-2:00 are really dreamy and sweet, perfect bridge to the main riff at 2:00. Actually a pretty easy riff, but a musican like Paul is able to do such a thrilling song out of this simple idea... His sound from his gear and the tone from his hands are fantastic, makes me smile and feel like on drugs while first listening to it, can´t believe he´s getting even better from year to year!
