@@marcellus6691 Hi, can you write this comment elsewhere in the comments space, here it is not visible and I will pin it so that you have more visibility. Very interesting version and still relevant (until the end of the century).
I was there at the age of 19. I was extremely fortunate, not a grunt and never humped it in the jungle. Still I have from PTSD and consider myself extremely blessed to be alive. God bless those troops that never made it back.
Can't blame you guys for PTSD. You never knew what your fought for. That f*ck you up. In wars you fight to either protect Your territory or to expand it. Korea and Vietnam were Political Wars (Capitalists vs Communists), that was what is was. The USA were never threatened. The politicians should fight their own battles on the field - Cowards!! Who can blame the natives for defending their territory? If you gonna invade, you need a valid reason to invade (to claim land for your own expansion).
MY RESPECT TO ALL OF THEM. AS A SOLDIERS IN MY FAMILY, SOME OF THEM, GET BACK. I'M PROUD TO BE A SOLDIER TO SERVED AND BLESSINGS TO ALL MY BROTHER'S AND SISTER'S, THAT SERVES.
I am 76 and I have just discovered this piece of music Thank you so much for writing it And to those dear people who went you are amazing and so brave - thank you so much more Why do still have to have war? I mean the human race has evolved so much especially in the last 100 years Why can’t we settle our political differences by just communicating not confronting?
I joined the US Army 1976 and was in after the war. I saw the effects of the Vietnam war on my fellow soldiers. They came back to hatred and protests. Disillusioned about their reason for being there. They fought tough battels and watch many of their brothers die. Vietnam veterans I salute you and thank you for your, scarifies in the field of Vietnam. 19 was the average age. Love you all brothers.
@@marcellus6691 Send me this version in WAV format and the cover, I'll make a video with a link to your channel. More effective advertising than person-to-person canvassing.
A friend of mine who was a medic told me about how he had to change before walking through the airport to come home so the public wouldn't see he was a soldier. And another who had bullet holes all over his body from being shot. He was on tough SOB! Miss you John. Salute to all who served in NAM. No they definitely did not get the respect they deserved.
I loved this when it came out in 1985, England, we couldnt stop talking about the video at school, it was our Bohemian Rhapsody moment if you like, our history teacher, took the opportunity to teach us briefly about the Vietnam war, how it started why the Americans got involved. Bloody horrific really, She was asked will their ever be a time when there will be no wars in the world? No she said, because there is no profit in peace. And most of our world leaders are fanatics. Prophetic words indeed. Mrs. Bissel parkfields wolverhampton
A Family Freind Of Ours Was A -Tunnel Rat - in Vietnam. He didn't talk about it much. But Basically he was given a flashlight and a pistol to go clear out underground tunnels. War is pure HELL.
@Clive . People Have No Idea What Our Brave Military Goes Through. On A Lighter Note. Our Family Freind Survived War And Had A Family And Good Job . He Loved Going Out On His Boat. Take Care Everyone. ☺
My God father was identified and Served in the Marines and I recall a photo of him that was taken in the field with his gear on and his protection strapped around him...so priceless 😀😄

Masterpiece of Message and Sound in the 80's! I was 14 years old i heard it the first time! Still love it..now i am 51...time goes by so fast! Timeless Song! Greetings from germany
Two Tour’s of Duty in Northern Ireland serving with 45 Commando and 4 FD Royal Artillery, lost many friend’s in the field by sniper’s ... Civilian’s will never know what us soldier’s went through to defend our country in hostile condition’s to protect the innocent .. I guess the Grace of God sent his strongest, soldier’s to the battlefield for peace. This tune help’s us 🙂 ..!
This song came out when I was 16/7. I can’t imagine my brothers at 19 being drafted . However i and they were Canadian and we’re all GenX . I feel so bad for the soldiers who had to fight this war
It is far from rare, I was born in 79 but I consider myself a child of the 80s but the first music in which I was interested are from the late 60s and early 70s like my best friends. Every decade in sight, real pearls are born (and big shit). I really liked the 80s and especially the 90s.
"19" is a song by British musician Paul Hardcastle, released as the first single from his self-titled fourth studio album Paul Hardcastle (1985). The song has a strong anti-war message, focusing on the United States' involvement in the Vietnam War and the effect it had on the soldiers who served. The track was notable for early use of sampled and processed speech, in particular a synthesized stutter effect used on the words "nineteen" and "destruction". It also includes various non-speech, re-dubbed sampling, such as crowd noise and a military bugle call.
@@j.t.cooper2963 you would be surprised what idiots people are, for example look at you, if its obvious to you i ddnt post it for did i ? f*cking moron
...I remember registering for the draft during the Viet Nam War and suddenly realized I could die. Then the war ended. It woke surely woke me up to things beyond my control.
this is a great compilation, am only up to the second track i remember it was only young but hot times in britain and we school-kids went on strike at school got assaulted by the police for trying to talk to the coaches full of kids we blocked the road to the school entrance seen it in the miners' strike
So right. Here in Chile it was a hit. By that time, not many people knew how to speak english, so they didn t know what was about. Horrible experience ( every was in fact) By the way, If you dont know, this song was taken or based on a documentary from 1984 called "Vietnam Requiem" A 3 chapter program in which there are interviews and the voice of the narrator. All of them are sampled in the song . Take a look from youtube
Yes. Yes it is. Besides the measure of editing and reframing and the abuse of sensitive material for gain and PR for the warmachine. And the at surface not that visible connection between Operation Phoenix and torture after 9/11.
@@michaelguernsey9685 Like the first Apple Macintosh 👍. I'm surprised that it's my version of this title that works so well because it's taken from the maxi vinyl of the time and I'm not American. Many people have anecdotes about this war and their family members, but not me. However in France, we had our version of 19 spoken by Yves Mourousi, presenter of the television news.
Great respect from Best Eroes. Universal Soldier. My dady fightg în Vietnam. Eternal Respect. I'm fight în Afganistan and Irak .My son fight în Ukraine.UNIVERSAL SOLDIER. RESPECT GREAT FROM US.
When I was 18, and in the Active Duty US Army, I despised the draft dodgers and "Hippies". I now have respect for BOTH the Vietnam war soldiers AND the protestors/"Hippies". (With the MOST respect going to the DRAFTED.) I recognize in many ways I was brainwashed and naive about quite a number of things (Along with many other Americans both old and young).....Hence my respect now for even JANE FONDA, WHEREAS when I was 18..... ....... "I WASN'T Fonda Jane".🙄
This song reminds me of how many young people have died in the Russia v Ukraine war. so for the sake of humanity let' the war cease, it is so tragic. A new Hardcastle song should be produced. now!!
had the chance to visit Vietnam many times for work and visited the CuCi Tunnels. They were extensive. Jungle warfare was something the NVA took to another level. They defeated the French in Diem Bien Phu. That should have been a red flag for others IMHO.
My older brother I , had to sign up for Draft , at this time , Because they were only Allowed to Take Two from a Family , So , we both , signed up ,for the Draft , Because we were both "A1" , at the Time , But , President Richard Nixon put an End To The War , So , My Older brother , and , I Escaped the War , Thanks to the Lord Above , Amen !*!*!
I never respond to comments on this video because the stories are very often atrocious and sad. I am not American, I only know this war through your wonderful films. I'm answering you because your story ends wonderfully. I wish you an excellent end-of-year celebration from a Frenchman who was 6 years old when this title was released (a French version spoken by a journalist from 1 p.m., Yves Mourousi also exists). Merry Christmas to you both.
During the WW1 it was labeled shellshock then in WW2 it was battle fatigue Korean War it was war norosis and finally after Vietnam War PTSD and more severe forms of PTSD terrible poor men God help all the them👍🙏
And here I am today, over 19 years ago living and working here in Saigon living near the battlefields which is now a land of mixed-use development of hungry rich capitalists!
