Philemon was a rich man from the town of Colossae. Onesimus was a slave at his house. Both of these men were brought to faith by Paul at different points. Onesimus ran away from Philemon's house because of some financial harm that he caused his master. He met Paul in Rome and becomes a follower of Christ. Paul suggested that Onesimus be reconciled to Philemon. The letter to Philemon (in the Bible) is Paul's letter to Philemon asking him to forgive and receive Onesimus "no longer as a slave, but as a brother." Look at what Christ can do in the hearts of two individuals, in this case, one a slave-owner, and another, a slave. Christ alone can cause two individuals to be reconciled in this manner. Christ alone can inspire a person like Paul to initiate this reconciliation by mediating between the two. Paul did in this case what Christ has done for all of us - mediating for all of us before God. #biblestudy #bible #apostlepaul #philemon #onesimus #forgiveness #reconciliation #drsamthomas
