Of all Australian politicians,Paul Keating had the most vision, the most profound comprehension & understanding, the most flair & the best sense of humour. There aren't enough superlatives to describe the sublime prowess he had as both a politician and, more importantly,a parliamentarian. When Labor lost the election in 1996,it signalled the end of a remarkable political career which transcended the mediocrity of modern day politics, and ushered in a new understanding between peoples of our nation.
@@jimcrawford5039 He gave you a floating exchange rate, a competitive export oriented economy and compulsory superannuation that you'll enjoy when you retire. Fortunately the Liberals have failed to bugger it up. But not for want of trying.
Paul Keating was the economist, when interviewed by mainstream media at anytime, questioned of figures, was never stumped and never needed notes in front of him to answer anything to do with the economy. A colourful never boring political genius.
@@johnmalissa9658 every working class Australian has the labour party and the union movement to thank for our high standard of living. You uneducated gronk.
Paul Keating (whilst the leader of Australia) used to do the shopping with Anita at the Woolworths supermarket in Manuka ACT. He was pushing the trolley. StatsAmazing !!!!!
Jason Chadwick I reckon that is awsome that just shows the type of grounded person he is and he is not above doing the grocery shopping and I bet there would of been someone to do it if he wanted lol
"George, you'd be surprised how far you can get if you try, if you dare to try." Everything about Keating - right there. Nothing about Turnbull or the current crop - right there.
Do the big jobs and cease knitting . Labor does the big policies the conservatives simply preserve the status quo for the benefit of their monied friends .
And here we are one year later, the day after Bob Hawke's passing, the day before another federal election ... and Australians are still asking the same question. Gosh it's sad.
I can't help but admire Mr Keating now he's free to say what he needs to. Much like Malcolm Fraser - people with gravitas, confidence, and most importantly, humour. I didn't think we could produce statesmen!
I agree. Best PM by far. I think Keating is a mind that the 20 something generation of today could of benefited from greatly had he been around as a current figure today.
hes right , he never had any security ,I saw him up a street one day opening up a new housing precint in South Townsville , I parked the car , walked up stood about 2 metres away from him, only a dozen people there and i think only 1 security guy ...
We need a pm like this genius again now Keating was ahead of his time told it how it was and Australia soul be pushed around by the rest of the world if he was in charge now
Agreed, but the execution P.O.'d a lot of people; it's not really that he's to blame - his brand of rhetoric was forged to cope with the environment he had to work in. Maybe a more reserved, yet sober demeanor such as in this interview would have won more hearts over to his ideas.
