Nowadays some of his jokes are considered insensitive and politically incorrect. He was a genius and here he is in all his glory. Credit to Anthony Jr. for uploading the originals, I just put them together.
Albert Szent-Gyorgyi once said, "A discovery is said to be an accident meeting a prepared mind." grateful today, for both my mind and also this accidental find ❤
A lot of these are in the compilations in Hollywood squares/Paul Lynde # one and two, but I never get tired of any of them !! and love hearing the great Paul Lynde with his fabulous wit and humor. ⭐️⭐️⭐️ Rest in peace dear Sir !🙋♀️⭐️⭐️⭐️♥️
This man was a comedic genius. His laughter was infectious, his one-liners were spot on, and his wit was astounding as well. Mom and I always laughed so hard at him on Bewitched!
Yes he was Comedic Genius Absolutely “”I as wel would watch him on bewitched:) W my grandmother &’ my siblings :) he was taken from us way too soon tho ‘ Yes he was awesome
Absolutely the best actor/comedian in his time. He played in many movies and sitcoms with other big stars, but he was the one who really made the movies a hit. Does anyone remember him on Bewitched? ❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you for this reading. It's just the confirmation I needed. Out with the old, in with the new. Taking action ALONE!! No longer entertaining those who drain my energy while I help them and am pushed aside so they can take, take, take... until NOW.....I've awakened. Evil people will NOT occupy my thoughts. They've taken enough! It's a small price to pay for peace and harmony returning to my life. I believe this will be the best chapter in my life!! I can finally breathe again. Thank God!!
He was one of the most intelligent performers. What a pity he was rejected for being gay. In reality after it came out, he was still they same PERSON he was before!!!! If a person is straight or gay Isn't anyone else's buisness as long as they lead a normal life. In the end Paul was Paul! That's what it came down too!
The guy was a raging alcoholic and not many people liked him.He was quite the asshole because he was drunk all the time in private life. So I don't think you would have liked to Have hung out with him.
I love him, and he was so quick with his one-liners. He really was a verbal genius. The only thing I wonder is why does he always cover up his mouth or another part of his face after he answers something?
Thank you for this! I don't see the part of the video from which the picture in the thumbnail is from. I'm looking for it. It seems to be the one about "pounding meat" but I can't find it.
Whoa! I've seen Paul wear leisure suits before, but this was the first time Ive Ever seen Peter Marshal wearing one! ( I had 2 of them btw, & I actually Liked them!)
Paul was the greatest……it was a great loss when he passed away Karen Valentine……my all time greatest crush, was the cutest of all the nice ladies on here
So very well said! And I'm old enough to remember these times & when it seemed to change so dramatically. Now to the Woke & PC's of this era, game shows like Holllywood Squares & sitcoms like Sanford & Son, which had the black/white humor amped up for laughter & a sense of truth in our styles & how we interrelated, would be demonized by them
1:05 "What was that masked man..?" Great Reference to Hooded Claw/Sylvester Sneekly he did there, innit? Okay, Show of hands: Who watched "The perils of Penelope Pitstop" growin' up? Paul was The Claw!
This makes me long for the days when people could make a joke about anything and absolutely nobody was stupid enough to get offended by it. There used to be a common understanding of how human communication works, and everyone just naturally understood what was being communicated when somebody makes a joke. There was no confusion about when something might be offensive or not. They understood how humor works and what purpose it serves. It was a kind of common understanding and common sense. Nobody had the deep need to feel perpetually offended like they do now. People didn't feel the need to act victimized every time someone opens their mouth.
Blame yourselves for having raised traumatized children, that became sensitive adults! This is the science: “ “The sustained qualities of children's emotional experiences during the first 2 years of life have a decisive influence on the way they feel, and hence on how they behave, for the rest of their lives … the developmental/epigenetic effects of early social affective experiences probably influence many higher as well as lower brain functions.” (Jaak Panksepp, Affective Neuroscience) Also, your generations of unavailable parents cause illness: “Relationship of childhood abuse and household dysfunction to many of the leading causes of death in adults. The Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) Study V J Felitti et al. Am J Prev Med. 1998 May.” “The number of categories of adverse childhood exposures showed a graded relationship to the presence of adult diseases including ischemic heart disease, cancer, chronic lung disease, skeletal fractures, and liver disease. The seven categories of adverse childhood experiences were strongly interrelated and persons with multiple categories of childhood exposure were likely to have multiple health risk factors later in life. “
He was incredibly smart and witty. He was also a total asshole. He was mean, petty, and a bit sadistic. He, reportedly, would skewer anyone in a second. He didn't seem to appreciate those who might have been his loyal friends. A bitter, angry, man. Still, one in a million!
Guests on talk shows are interviewed before taping and the host including Johnny Carson has notes to direct the interview. Besides that on his Tonight Show appearance Paul declares he's a script man. Additionally the Hollywood Squares credits state the Stars are given answers ahead of time. Finally articles plus Peter Marshalls book State explicitly Paul Lynde's quips were written. But fear not I promise even knowing now that he wasn't the inventor of the lines You'll still laugh because of his trademark delivery and the lines are outrageous.
@Paul Beebe, I hear ya Paul..!!! What makes it so questionable is the fact that everybody who knew him ~ particularly on the set reported that every one of his lines are written FOR him, prior to the show. Well that's odd. 'Cause WHY would PAUL LYNDE need ghost writers? After all, he's PAUL LYNDE !!! Who is well compensated just for being 'PAUL LYNDE.' Not to mention he seems to be quite surprised by what comes out of his very OWN mouth covering his face with his hands a lot of the time. And there was another legend of comedy (can't remember his name at the moment) who mentioned to the host of HOLLYWOOD SQUARES that some of the answers he saves for himself, intending to put his own twist on the answer in which the Host replied, "I KNOW you do.." HILARIOUS! excuse me, Paul..!!! Probably NOT the way it's spelled but... it sounds like Borg nine and he is quite hilarious. NOT the one I was talking about. Although I don't remember this particular Comedy Legend's name at the moment. But that's okay. I'll just scroll back a couple times and find him. So Paul, how long have you been a fan of LYNDE? I mean HOLLYWOOD SQUARES was most popular in the mid to late '70s. I was very shocked and saddened to hear of his death. As a matter of fact, I STILL recall the very moment I heard LYNDE had passed. He wasn't even that old, really. But then again, he didn't die of old age or by natural causes. He died of a drug overdose. Paul, what I really wanted to bring up was the fact that even his best friends say that he had one hell of a mean streak...but you know what Paul? How many stars are stars because of their mean streaks? A lot. Take a look at SIMON COWELL for instance. Now he's got quite the mean streak yet he never seems to be remorseful and/or at the very least ~ embarrassed by what he allows to spew out of his mouth. Then there's RODNEY DANGERFIELD, who I didn't care for at all. And he was an AWFUL father to his children. I know that because my sister dated his son who is his spitting image. (Is that what it's called ?) My sister said that everywhere they go, he has people rolling on the floor. Naturally, DANGERFIELD is not his real name. His real name was COWEN. My sister has remained one of his very best friends for several DECADES now. ANYWAYS Paul, here's one of my PAUL LYNDE favorites HOST: 1) "When a man falls out of a boat, they yell MAN OVERBOARD..!!! What do they yell when a woman falls out of a boat..?" LYNDE: "FULL SPEED AHEAD..!!!!" 2)AND: HOST ~ "Paul, you are a SINNER. Did you know that you're a sinner, Paul..?" LYNDE: "As long as they spell my name right..." @Paul Beebe, I hear ya Paul..!!! What makes it so questionable is the fact that everybody who knew him ~ particularly on set reported that every one of his lines are written for him, prior to the show. Well that's odd. 'Cause WHY would PAUL LYNDE need ghost writers? After all, he's PAUL LYNDE !!! Who is well compensated just for being PAUL LYNDE. And there was another legend of comedy (can't remember his name at the moment) who mentioned to the host of HOLLYWOOD SQUARES that some of the answers he saves for himself, intending to put his own twist on the answer in which the Host replied, "I KNOW you do.." There was Victor Borgnine...excuse me, Paul..!!! Probably NOT the way it's spelled but...anyways, it sounds like Borg nine. Although I don't remember the Comedy Legend's name at the moment. That's okay. I'll just scroll back a couple times and find him. How long have you been a fan of PAUL LYNDE? I mean HOLLYWOOD SQUARES was most popular in the mid to late '70s. But then again, he didn't die of old age or by natural causes. He died of a drug overdose. Okay Paul. I know EXACTLY what you're going to say. I hear it every single day. That's NOT a text message. It's a BOOK...😁
Where did you get the info that he died from an OD? Watch his biography on A& E; Jan Forbes, one of his dearest friends said that Paul's doctor told her that at his autopsy, he had the cardiovascular system of an 89 year old, damage from years of Smoking & drinking, an most alcoholics are rarely drug users.
He was doing whippets with a young man who took off on Paul. At least, that was the rumour at the time. They would inhale the stuff inside the little silver things you put in your whip cream dispenser. They would get high from them, it enhanced they things they were doing together. He was found the next morning. Extremely sad that the person didn't or couldn't help him instead of running away. 55 is so young. He had so much to give, but maybe he was in too much emotional pain to continue ? He was getting more and more nasty as time went by. Hope you're having a ball in heaven, Paul. Can't wait to meet you.
@12:30 The more I look back at what I thought was innocent television, the more I see the slow but steady decline in morals that got us to where we are at in 2024.
Buddy Hackett alledgedly claimed Lynde's jokes were scripted. Others said Lynde and the rest of the squares were briefed and they came up with their own comebacks....which had to remain within certain guidelines. Either way it was hysterical and highly entertaining. That's all that really matters.
