Jimi was always a Sir Paul guy...McCartney was hip enough to be at the very front of the line of British rock stars, acknowledging his genius, right from the get go! ☆ At the time of Jimi's death, there was a famous telegram from Miles Davis, regarding the formation of a supergroup project. They had one rehearsal; Sir Paul, Jimi, Miles & Tony Williams on drums. Apparently, Miles wasn't to keen on the white, Englishman idea. Jimi called him on it, too. Though also, initially apprehensive, Williams, became immediately all smiles, after jamming with the Beatle. Greats like Jimi, had the pick of the field and chose PM for the project...very telling, indeed!

Saw Paul and his band about 5 years ago. Waited all my life and missed seeing Wings in the 70s. Awesome show. That being said, I could just listen to Paul tell stories for 3 hours.
Me too! I think that this was the concert I was at in San Diego! Best concert EVER! And, I've been going to concerts since the 60's. This was a concert I will never forget. We love you, Paul!
Wow. Paul rocking lead guitar and jamm’n. He’s such an underrated guitarist and rarely takes lead but wow.. I think one of his first lead guitar moments was numerous guitar pieces on McCartney I back in 1970.. The guitar work on Maybe I’m Amazed is fantastic...
Paul plays the solos on "Taxman" and "Good Morning Good Morning," and probably the earliest "lead" he did was the bent-sounding licks on "Another Girl."
He's a horrible lead player. What do you know about this subject. I love Paul's work, but get real. This video shows how mediocre he is as a lead guitarist. What is your background ? Do you play ? Do your really know anything about the subject? Paul has influence me greatly. I love his bass work, his songwriting, his singing, his piano playing, his studio production work.... but get real. When I song write, when I play all the instruments on the two CDs that I've released, they've both been influenced by Paul. He's a great musician, but a guy can't be everything. And as a lead guitarist, he's very mediocre. I could go to Guitar Center and find 16 year old kids that could play lead better than Paul's lead playing. He is having fun in this video, though. And, the audience is having fun and that's great. But don't mistake his lead guitar playing as being anything other than mediocre. If you do, it either means that you don't know anything about the subject, or that you're so star struck that you lie to yourself. Keep it real. (PS: I know that I'm going to open myself up for a bunch of criticism, but to show your where I'm comming from, and how much Paul has influence me, give this tune a listen. I played all instrument, Including a coffee can for a drum. You can hear Paul's bass playing all over this tune, despite it being a jazz tune. That last half has lead guitar playing on it. This is one man band stuff. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-W_98uJ62xdc.html
It sounds like someone who’s been playing lead guitar for a year, but Paul isn’t a lead guitar player so he’s not really expected to pull this stuff off.
Yes but he also composed and played several great guitar solos like the one in Maybe I’M Amazed which is covered by many. Guitar may not be his primary instrument but he knows how to compose...
Interesting read on Paul and Jimi: “On the 21st of October 1969, Jimi Hendrix, Miles Davis and the drummer Tony Williams sent a telegram to Paul McCartney (who was a big fan of Jimi). "We are recording and LP together this weekend in New York - STOP - How about coming in to play bass - STOP - Peace - Jimi Hendrix Miles Davies (sic) Tony Williams." On October 22, Peter Brown, who worked for the Beatles' record label, replied on behalf of Paul: "Ref. cable received from Hendrix, Davies and Williams. Paul McCartney away from London on holiday, not expected to return for two weeks." When the ex-Beatle was later shown the telegram, he was stunned "Am I dreaming? Is it a joke? Where did you find that?" The documents come from Yazid Manou, the French Hendrix specialist, who discovered them while researching on the web-sites of The Hard Rock Café. One document is at Key West (Florida 2005) and the other in Prague (Czech Republic 2012). "How is this possible? Jimi! Jimi wanted to play with me and I find out now? Why?" McCartney suddenly realized that October 21, 1969 had been a special day: "An american radio had just announced that I was dead and it had spread worldwide. The Beatles were in a difficult period. I went to my house in Scotland and I didn't want to be joined... so, I never got this telegram. I was dreaming to play with Jimi. We knew each other. I remember having seen him playing at The Speakeasy Club, in London, in 1966 : Jimi was astonishing, breathless, impossible to categorise. I remember that he had played his famous version of "Hey Joe" and a song of Howlin' Wolf. I have never played with him; I thought that we would have all the time in the world. And he died one year after; he was 27. When, in 1967, I was one of the art directors of the Monterey Festival, I got him invited." Unknown in the USA, Hendrix exploded onto the scene, thanks to that concert. "What could Jimi, Miles, Tony and I have done in a studio ? I know I would have rather played guitar than bass... or both. Jimi had no limits. He brought together psychedelic rock, electric blues, gospel... and his technique remains matchless. For 40 years, I recalled his genius in pretty all of my concerts." Evidently moved, McCartney adds "It is at the same time my biggest missed opportunity and also a great news... an inspiration to write new songs." Another interesting detail- Manou managed to get Peter Brown on the phone to ask him about the telegram and informed him of fan’s angry reactions to the missed opportunity - Brown promptly hung up on him!
holy shit it even has a little touch of the beatles in the lead that was awesome. I was really skeptical before hearing it. Now I'm like, "dude you didn't sing it?!"
Jimi Hendrix was actually a righty, but learned guitar left handed because he didn't know what the fuck he was doing back then! XD Still Jimi's a legend and will never be forgotten.
Pigsrock93 Jimi was left-handed but his father forced him to play righthanded out of religious reasons, so Jimi learned to play right-handed on a left-hand-tuned guitar so that he could swap it over when his pa wasn't watching
Amazing. Paul can play any instrument. And he knows who to create a special energy of love around like nobody else. And yet...trolls always show up because they love him too much. And faint with envy. Pathetic people. I wish Paul had make this tribute the night I saw his concert. It's simply fabulous.
I don't think some realize but Jimi released Are You Experienced? on May 12, 1967. Sgt. Pepper's was released on May 26th, 1967. Let that sink in. Everybody said Sgt. Peppers was this forward thinking game changer and it WAS, but Are You Experienced? was before it! And man was THAT as game changer. So just saying Sgt. Pepper's wasn't on an island all by itself.
What a gem of a video! I have never seen Paul play Hendrix,, it will be brilliant if he plays that at Glastonbury in August 2022. He's a very young 79 isn't he!!
Honestly, he gets Hendrix vibe-wise better than anyone else. He just does - not kidding. Even better than Hendrix disciples... He doesn't try to outplay him or keep up. He just gets that strange, off-kilter vibe Hendrix had and to a T. It's uncanny. And funny. LOVE his Hendrix stuff.
X x. Astrological opposites!!! Hendrix is a Sagittarius. McCartney is a Gemini. Bob Dylan is also a Gemini & as Hendrix said in an April 1969 interview in Dallas: "Dylan turned me on MENTALLY"!!!!

Nice effort from Paul & point well taken as to " tribute". In all this it can not be mistaken that the original much wilder, inspired dynamic of that song belongs completely to Jimi Hendrix. It's not just " hands" on the guitar...it is "soul" on the guitar that is important. Love to Paul, Love to Jimi
Paul hung out with Jimi too man... All these legends who worked in the 60s were around to see a lotta different people on stage. A lotta talent. Always love to hear that story about Sgt album and Jimi calling for Eric. One can't be nicer than Paul. ❤
Before he was famous Hendrix was playing in New York and not getting traction. He moved to London and became a hit, but he was still unknown in the US. A promoter tried to get the Beatles to play but McCartney told them they had a conflict and recommended Hendrix. Jimi put on a show and lit his guitar on fire. He was an instant sensation. As different as they sound there was a bond and mutual admiration. If n for Paul we might have not had so much influence from Hendrix.
Everybody's heard Paul play solo guitar, probably without realizing it. A lot of the grungy, psychedelic sounding solos were actually played by Paul. "Helter Skelter ," "Back in the USSR," "Tomorrow Never Knows," "Taxman," "Good Morning Good Morning" are among his most notable solos.
You know, jimi didn't just flip a right handed strat over. He flipped it, and swapped the strings so that the bottom string was still on the bottom. Yeah, he could've gotten a strat and done all that, but that seems like a lot of effort for a 1 minute tribute.
I read the comments of couple youngsters who suppose know to play guitar and criticize Paul approach to Jimi song and his poor technique.. Maybe some of those have managed some metallica or megadeth songs and now they proudly think they are awesome. To play good technically is only first step and there is looong way from technical player to good player. Jimi was for example not only good but supreme, there is also long way from good to supreme, but still I consider Paul good guitar player. You may ask why ?? Think about it you will get it one day, I hope so. I was always in awe how some old rock or blues guitarist play couple of seem to be simple riffs but it sounded so awesome and when myself played it it sounded dead, robotic. It may take a lot time or not to get that right feel but if you drop ego you start learning it just happen and suddenly you know it. Jimi song Are You Experienced refers to so many levels of human life experiences it is endless like the sky !!
Dope, ur right about that technicality......"when the technical side of guitar overrides the spiritual you do not reach extreme heights..." - frusciante
Just a little anecdote about the grace and kindness of the late Jimi Hendrix. He played and presented his musical compositions like masterpieces. "Foxy Lady" became the dream standard for vocals along with "Purple Haze".His stage presence was so powerful you could hear a pin drop. The outfits he wore were often silky, satiny or velvety, paisley, tie dye, frock coats and jabot frill shirts made in the finest London Boutiques. His focus was on the softening of sound from the microphone and he was continuously adjusting the amplifiers. Jimi took good care of his guitars as a rule, and would only entrust someone like the virtuoso Eric Clapton to help him tune an electric guitar. Blinding lights and loudness never outshone the magical mystery of the "experience". He shared his songs generously with the gifted stars and likewise Bob Dylan let him cover "All Along The Watchtower". Ringo Starr had the same elegant taste in clothes and took to helping Jimi' find refined accommodation in a London flat.He did learn Sgt. Pepper"s Lonely Heart's Club Band in a few days, and I wonder if that gave his contemporaries real insight into their work. I wonder how futuristic he could have sounded if he had lived to old age .Surely Miles Davis and John Coltrane would have seen a refined progressive change to jazz in later year sessions.Nice instrumental tribute to 'Black Majesty's" unforgettable "Sand Castle Magic ' of a Purple Haze dimension. Lovingly, FOXY.
