In a parallel universe Everest by the Quarrymen is considered the pinnacle of their career. George Harrisons’s song Something was the best song on the record. His likening the romance of his life to his taste for pomegranates has secured his place in history as the greatest songwriter ever, in that universe.... and probably in ours too.

'Everest' would have been grandiose and pretentious. Plus, Everest was already famous. Abbey Road was a great decision, one that had meaning. The fact that fans can go there and take pics which have bugged anyone driving along it for more than half a decade* [thus far] is a bonus. * Edited to say, yes of course I meant CENTURY. You can go down Abbey Road and see it, cross it and walk down it. You’re not likely to go to Mt. Everest ever. So it’s practical and accessible. To this day, people go to that crosswalk and copy the iconic cover of Abbey Road. So it makes it fun for fans. 👏🏻🎸😎

"Everest" would have been pretentious and very non-Beatle. Knowing Abbey Road was where their studio was located, where they spent hours doing so much great creative work, where they also cut up laughing as well as squabbling... it was a creative home to them. There is a certain down to earth warmth and intimacy with that name that has always highly appealed to fans and was very much in keeping with their common, everyday working class roots of the Beatles.
