Rachel, respectfully, I have never heard P or M but mean on their channel and I watch their content. I’m not sure if you realise but we can’t bend the Bible to fit the LGBT community and atheists, you must bend to fit the Bible. Truth is truth whether or not if offends and on that day of Judgement every one will bow and declare Jesus is Lord. You can either do it willingly or you will have to do it. On that day you will know Truth but it will be too late. Eternity is long, hell is hot. I pray for you frequently like give done for Russell Brand x

@@sambailie4773 "Truth is truth whether or not it offends"? Exactly. I am gay. I am gay whether or not it offends you. Hate to break it to you mate but if I end up having to face off against Jesus in the afterlife for some reason (the dude who specifically revoked old laws that hurt people, even sinners, and emphasized the importance of love) then I am willing to do so even if I highly doubt that will happen. In the mean time, you can respectively shove off and realize that you are not helping anyone and are actively hurting some people.

Why is a middle aged person allowed to wander around a college campus and bothering people about their sexuality?
@schmowder1911
@schmowder1911 24 дня назад
These schools get federal funding, so they’re not totally private property. Public places on campus like the quad are considered to be part of “the public square,” where very strong first amendment protections apply. In a nutshell, institutions can somewhat regulate someone’s speech based on time, place, and manner (so she can’t do this in a classroom or in the library). But, with a few exceptions, they can’t regulate speech based on content. This is also why the way that campuses retaliated against many of the Palestinian protesters was so flagrantly unconstitutional.
@zotha

@@zotha I think if they violate codes of conduct or municipal, county, state, federal laws, they can be kicked. When I was in post-secondary, a man looking a lot like Sister Cindy's counterpart (it honestly could've been him for all I know) showed up outside of our main building with cafeterias and such. He wasn't there for long before being asked to leave. He came back later which I'm guessing could be seen as disorderly or something since he was making a lot of noise and was previously asked to stop. I hung out in that area a lot so it's why I got a decent timeline lol

@@zothaI went to a public university in the south/midwest US (depending on your persuasion), and I’ve seen literal KKK members and white supremacist groups on campus. Various flavors of Christians showed up to proselytize all the time. Like others have mentioned, there are some restrictions - you can’t show up in classrooms or in university owned buildings to yell about how all women are sluts, but portions of campuses are often very similar to public parks. People are allowed to be there and say whatever they want to. I do think there ought to be more explicit restrictions on the content that people want to scream about in public. Hate speech and inciting violence are illegal but poorly defined. Where I’m from, cops will side with the nazis every time, and I’m sure they’re unbothered by extremist Christians if they aren’t actively in that camp themselves

@spOOkytimes
@spOOkytimes 24 дня назад
Admittedly, there is a sense of relief from marriage/long-term partnership. _If it's a strong marriage or partnership_ , there is less of a chance of a partner leaving from pettier arguments. There is a sunk cost fallacy to an extent. HOWEVER, people are allowed to leave a marriage at any point. The fact that Paul and people like him think someone can't is scary and gross. You should never ever bank on being married or long-term to say nasty things and get away with it. The person you are talking to is still a human being and may forgive, but won't forget. The fact that Paul felt empowered to say that out loud and in such a way illustrates how he thinks he can do as he pleases without consequences.

As for Sister Cindy, I'm a millennial, I have a sense of humor, and what Sister Cindy is preaching is funny to the audience because it's being aimed at people who are more than likely all under the age of 25. It sounds funny and edgy to them, but as an adult, it sounds childish. I think everyone who was laughing, was laughing at her, despite the harmful message. On the surname part, and why I refuse to change mine for marriage..... It's literally the invention of my mother and I. When we decided, now's the time we are gonna run for our life and escape her family built on extreme levels of DV / CSA / whatever you wanna include as abuse - it happened... We changed our surnames. I still hold my birth first name, she changed her *entire* identity of given-middle-surname. That surname is SO important. It denotes the beginning of escaping the worst kind of darkness and the survival of it. The awful times of living in hotels because we had nowhere to go, scared out of our minds we'd be found. The years of her therapy to deal with her childhood. Me learning who I am as a person, a child (I was under-10), independent from the concept of 'family.' It denotes the BEGINNING of a whole new life, and the absolute struggles to get there. Why on Earth would I ever give something so poignant, important, sentimental, and empowering up...... Just to state, "I am married and I am legally bound to a husband"?

Sister Cindy came to my campus when I was in school, and it was very clear that absolutely no one in the crowd took her seriously at all. Which, I think was the best case scenario bc her message is harmful to both women and those who follow the Christian faith. After Sister Cindy's "preaching" was done, she invited a friend of hers up to the mic to share her testimony. This friend spoke about her struggles and experiences with drug addiction, poverty, and domestic abuse. It was intense listening to her story, but the crowd was still so amped up from Sister Cindy's "message" that they continued throwing insults and treating her friend's true, heartbreaking testimony as a joke. It was really hard to watch, and was proof enough to me to show that Sister Cindy and her "Ho No Mo" brand are only causing harm--both to the crowds that watch her and to the public image of the Christian faith and its followers.

interesting you mention how "slut" used to mean "untidy woman". In German (or maybe it's just an Austrian dialect thing, not sure) we still say "schlampig" which means "untidy/messy" but also means "slutty" depening on the context. Like my mum used to call me "schlompad" (which is our dialect word for "schlampig") when i had a messy room for example. She also called me a "Schlompn" (noun for "schlompad"/"schlampig") once when i had a particularly messy room. But i think she realized that it could be interpreted that she just called her 14 year old daughter a slut bc she then clarified to me that she just meant to say that i was a messy girl lol. The more i think about it, the more i think it is a dialect specific thing that we use "schlampig" also as messy/untidy. I think in standard German it is just used in the meaning of "slutty". Dialects are fun :) I hope you enjoyed your holiday in Austria :)

Cindy and the rest of Jed's group were a group of caricatures at my college campus. People would often look up from days blending into each other to see Brother Jed and Sister Cindy screaming ("preaching") at students in the middle of campus, only to then realize exactly what time of year it was. People looked forward to making time in their schedules to visit Brother Jed and Sister Cindy's sermons, whether to ridicule, argue, observe, film, or question. It seemed as though the majority of interactions, even at the quite religiously conservative school, were taken as a joke by the students. As a personal anecdote, I vividly remember Brother Jed pointing my friend and I out across the plaza for hugging as a greeting, calling us out as "filthy sinners". Anything I caught them spewing was usually hateful, meant to provoke and shame people.

something i’ve found interesting about the idea of first names vs. surnames is how people tend to refer to female public figures by their first names but refer to male figures by surnames (such as hilary vs. trump). it’s a subtle example of misogyny where women are (perhaps subconsciously) seen as not deserving of the respect of a last name. i’m a journalist and it’s always been emphasized to make sure to refer to women by their last names in articles because of this, but your perspective has me thinking about WHY the last name is considered more respectful professionally and what that in itself says about a patriarchal name being seen as more proper than a given name. really interesting to think about

My mum passed away almost 2 years ago, and my name is the only permanent gift I have gotten from her (as I look like the mix of my whole family visually). My name was decided by both my mum and dad, but it was thought out carefully and I couldn’t be more grateful. I love my surname as well, because my dad is one of the best men I’ve ever met in my life, but my name really encompasses my family and I’s identity very well. Honestly I love this take on surnames particularly, it reminds me of a line I read in a book like 100 years ago where one woman said to another woman that she didn't understand why children were named for their father's when really they only thing you could be absolutely certain off was which women birthed the child (this was a historical fantasy setting so no dna testing options either). And that always stuck with me. Secondly, I've been a firm believer for quite a while now that we absolutely need to ban slut-shaming as a whole. Like it doesn't matter how many sexual partner has or hasn't had. We don't need to shame anybody that. It has also made me wonder what would be the better option: to either take back the word and give it a more positive association (which I think in some groups is already kinda happening where people will call each other sluts affectionately) or to sort of bury it altogether. I'm kinda leaning towards option 1 but it's definitely tricky either-way. I do 100% think it should be a gender-neutral term. If we're going to keep it, ANYBODY can be a slut and hopefully, proudly so.

Your tangent about names was really interesting! As someone with a hyphenated last name, I’ve put a lot of thought into what I’m supposed to do with it if I ever have kids- do I pass it on? Choose one name? Use my future spouse’s? Some weird name amalgamation? I understand why my parents did it, but I honestly really wish there was a better solution. I love my name, and I’ll never change it, but sometimes I think it’ll put me in a tough spot with some of my family in the future. I really wish there was a better solution to the issues inherent to the whole ‘pass down your surname paternally’ situation.

I said I would never change my name, but I want us and our kids to have the same last name and I don’t think it’s fair to ask him to take on my hyphenated name when his is simple and easier. I wrestled with it for a while but decided I wanted to take his name because I liked it and it would make things easier, with him knowing how much of a sacrifice that would be for me and that I would get full dominion over kids’ given names because of the fact that I’m giving up my name. I appreciated the aside on women and last names! For anyone interested, I highly suggest reading about "coverture laws" of marriage. Under these laws, a woman's legal existence/identity was subsumed under her husband. This meant that women's identities and rights were literally ERASED when they married. This partially explains why women would change their last name after getting married, as they were now a "part" of their husband legally. These laws prevented women from actions such as owning property, entering into contracts, or keeping a salary for herself (since the husband was the real "person", only he would be able to take certain legal actions). Coverture law was also used to justify denying women the vote. So the background behind the tradition of patriarchal surnames being passed on has a much darker side (at least in places where coverture laws existed).

To the question of whether Cindy should be banned from campuses, even if she's experiencing delusions, I very much think she should be banned. She is harming people and it doesn't matter whether she's mentally ill or not. She should be banned from canpuses and arrested if she continues despite the ban. This arrest may lead to her being put in a mental health facility (which yeah there's a lot of bad stuff going on in them but there's not much else to put here) and depending on whether she suffers from any kind of delusion she may be prescribed anti-psychotic medication or something similar. After a bit she can very much be released again since the charge that she'd get would most likely be trespassing. If she has someone to take care of her, that would be a good option too and if she's aware enough to understand that what she's doing is illegal and wrong, she should end up getting either fined or put into prison because she repeatedly would've violated the law in that case.

My son has my name and my parents were 3rd cousins, so they had the same last name. I'm so happy I could give my last name to my son and he's actually named after his great grandfather. He was a very good man who went through so many tragedies in his life, but always remained true to himself. He was actually the first atheist in the family. He became one in a POW camp where the Soviet soldiers took him after the battle of Budapest. He was a civilian because of health issues. He almost died. He never explained what happened, he just said that there can't be a god after what he saw there.

When you have severe mental health issues it's quite common to be exhausted or "groggy" all the time. Researching BPD for myself and my own issues I could see that being the issue. She's not in treatment or on meds anymore.

I mean, she hates making these videos, has a little kid, trauma from the birth, another unplanned one on the way, unstable financial situation, mental health struggles, a husband who seemingly pressures her into things and is not that empathetic, now more than ever we might understand why she would be groggy.

cannot wait for this. i have so many videos and pictures of sister cindy and brother jed on my campus in 2018/2019. i have a sticker of her and her “be a ho no mo” with my gay friends kissing in front of it. it’s so weird to have seen her go viral. i would never say she was mentally ill, she knows what she’s doing. maybe she’s a bit delusional, but she’s a fundie and she’s tiktok famous now.

I love the passion and sentiments about your last name, and the idea that you're a product of all your ancestors on all sides, not just one line, and that your given name reflects the love of all your family. It reminds me of my brother: he's got 3 kids and he and his wife planned to name them after the Archangels (they're quite religious). When the last child came along after a longer break, he was supposed to be named our-language version of Raphael, but the older children didn't like it, so they all picked a different name together, as a family. I like that my brother and sister-in-law had a theme for their children's names (they are quite nice names too, I think!), but I also really like that they were okay with changing their plan to make space for their children's opinion and include them in welcoming their new brother.

As a "female" who was raised by parents that never brainwashed me with this bs and only asked for me to be safe, I would probably not throw a second look at some shrieking old woman and go about my way to class that I paid for...🙄

I love your thoughts on surnames. even before my parents separated and I legally took my mother's surname, I referred to myself using my mother's surname because my father was very uninvolved, and I felt his name shouldn't apply to me -- I was 8 years old when I first felt this strong discomfort of a paternal surname that you talk about, and it wasn't until now that you really put into words the deeper reasons why I felt this way. great insightful video as always!!

I feel that your summation at the end really hit the nail on the head. This was boring and generally lacked any kind of actual thought or insight because in order for Paul or Morgan to have brought that, they themselves would have had to question their own beliefs and values. We have to remember that both of them are deeply indoctrinated into the purity culture, and in a lot of ways neither of them have ever demonstrated any capacity to see things from any alternative perspective outside of judging an alternative perspective in order to justify their own. A lot of this, I believe, comes down again to the fact that they are deep down, likely not actually secure in their beliefs. In order to give someone who believes something different than you a good faith chance, in order to really get INTO the perspective of someone who believes differently than you and to truly assess why they may believe what they do, why they may feel what they do, to look at their experience and how it may differ from your own, this is going to cause you to have challenge your own beliefs. It means that you do have to, in good faith, challenge what you believe in order to really empathize with or see another's point of view. And if you are not solid in your belief system or if you are not the kind of person who is open to finding out that you're wrong and that perhaps those who disagree with you have a valid reason for that disagreement, you aren't going to have the capacity to actually look at anyone else as anything other than someone who is wrong or stupid or otherwise just doesn't know what they're talking about. They were not able to bring any depth to this, because that would have required challenging their own belief systems about purity, sexuality and how the doctrine may be wrong or causing harm. How it may not actually be an effective tool for converting people. How it may be causing more harm than good even if they were to hold to the idea that converting people is the best thing and purity is the best thing - challenging Sister Cindy and her methods would have meant challenging their own deeply held conditioning, and thus, it didn't happen. Their points of disagreement with her were surface level because their exploration of this concept were also just that - due to the fact that they are fully bought in. They aren't actually open minded and aren't able to see alternative perspectives because they are not comfortable challenging their own beliefs on any level. Thus, there was no way this was going to have any depth or critical thought applied.
