Never seen a checkmate like that. Where the opponent had three legal moves but they all ended with a checkmate by the same piece and from the same square. Morphy the Goat 🐐 😄

Thks for this gem of an upload on the goat's birth anniversary. Long live the legend. And my God,what an extraordinary tactical minefield. Morphy is diabolical man!! I didn't see the bishop move and even after seeing it I couldn't see the knight move. But I saw the rook sac. That was easy. Fantastic game by the goat. All I can say is "your candle's burned out long ago, but your legend never will. Morphy is the greatest. This game proves beyond a semblance of doubt regarding his genius on the sixty four squares. Thks dear hcv for a great game. Have a good day as you have already made my day.

Thanks a lot dear Giri for your kind comments, Morphy was indeed an incredible chess player. His opponent in this chess game was one of the most succesful French chess players of that time, he was one of the leading players according to many sources and yet Morphy defeated him fairly easily. By the way de Riviere has also managed to beat Morphy in some rare occasions but Morphy was mostly victorious between these two. Maybe I should show a game when Morphy lost, that could be interesting. Anyway thanks again and take care.

At 8:00 Qf8+ also works. If then Kd7, Qf7# or on Ke6 white plays Re8+ and then either Nxe8, Qxe8# or Kd7, Qf7# but Morphy’s rook sacrifice is very nice. I’m sure he saw this too.

+Frank Barbaro he has much more difficult ones on a Paul Morphy tactics website, I easily found all 3 of the major tactics in this video. The much more difficult part is setting up tactics in the first place I think, not spotting them

@@eyeofhorus1301 thanks for that, I will check that website out. I looked at bishop takes pawn on h6 but I missed that rook couldn't take bishop because black Queen had no escape after knight to g5. Thanks for your response

I think Morphy and de Riviere also played some games in 1858 , Morphy winning some and de Riviere winning one maybe, I'm not sure though. And then there was one simul in 1858/1859 ,five board against de Riviere, Barnes, Boden,loewenthal and Bird,. 2-1=2. Morphy winning against bird and de Riviere. That game was awesome,simply a piece of art IMHO. By the way you can guess the loss. But,dear ferrieri,thk you once again for your valuable piece of information. I noticed the comment when I was going through the game again.

Morphy was invited to London's St. James's Chess Club in Löwenthal on Regent Street where he played a simultaneous game against 5 professional players on April 26, 1859 Initially, Morphy would only play with four players, but Henry Bird joined at the last minute. He played against Jules Arnous de Rivière, Samuel Boden, Thomas Barnes, Henry Bird and Johann Löwenthal. This order was the same table order Morphy faced. Morphy won two games (Bird and Rivière), drew two games (Boden and Löwenthal) and lost one (Barnes). This was Morphy's only simultaneous sighted exhibition in his career. The simultaneous one lasted over 6 hours. At the time, Löwenthal was in 3rd place in the world, Riviere in 6th place in the world, Boden in 11th place, Barnes in 12th place in the world and Bird in 15th in the world.

@historicalchessvideos8017 2 года назад
Well I'm afraid of copyrights, but I still do use some classic music sometimes in the intros but rarely in these days. When I put music I had to edit the video and the video size gets massive and its also difficult to upload, it takes too long to upload when I do that, so this is more practical.
