We'll never see this level of grace, humility and humanity in stars with such stratospheric success again in Hollywood. Rare breed. No, an extinct one.
When I was a Receptionist at a Porsche/Audi dealership in the late '80s early 90's in New Haven, Connecticut. Mr. Newman came in for service for one of his Porsches. He was so down to earth. We had a nice conversation and I had just moved to Connecticut from Louisiana. He said he loved my Louisiana accent. And let me tell you, his eyes were really that BLUE.
Amazing couple. In 2020, Joanne Woodward has become the oldest living Best Actress Oscar winner after the passing of Olivia de Havilland. That's my trivia for the day.
She ought to have another one, for Rachel, Rachel. And, Newman should have two as well, to include either Hud or Cool Hand Luke. Outstanding actors, both. And, true humanitarians.
I fell in love with Paul Newman when I was about 14 years old. I didn't realize what a terrific actor he was until I was in my mid 20's. I just remember thinking (after watching him on the movie screen for the first time) that he was the most beautiful man I had ever seen. I'm 73 now and I still think the same thing.
I’m 74, and I totally agree with you. I fell in love with him at about the same age as you did, and no other actor ever eclipsed him in my mind for talent or for his classically handsome face or those incredible blue eyes. ❤️
@@googleyeyed5814 My mom was crazy about him. 😊 My father was a sleight-of-hand aficionado, and when _The Sting_ came out he couldn't get to the theater fast enough. I was too young to understand, but everytime I watch it now, I think of my dad. ❤
Watching the kids of the “Hole in the Wall Gang” was beyond moving and demonstrates better than perhaps anything the generosity that is so unique to Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward. It was especially touching when Paul wiped the tears from his eyes at the end. His humanity and love for others less for fortunate is genuine.
I have always bought Paul Neuman's products whenever I could just to contribute in my own small way to his generous foundation. Thanks Paul and JoAnn and to your children who still are a part of this organization.
I love how overjoyed and surprised Paul and Joanne looked when Robert Redford said who was going to perform for them and them you see them crying as the performance is happening and it just brings a smile to my face.
No disrespect to either Sally Field or Robert Redford, but I love that it's so plain that what really moved Woodward and especially Newman was the last four minutes with the Hole in the Wall Camp kids. That's when their eyes lit up. Bless them.
"The Verdict"... I've watched it so many times, and I think it's time to watch it again. What a performance. At times you forget that it's Paul Newman because he becomes that down and out alcoholic who has to look outside of himself to expose the TRUTH while absorbing the injustice that was done to someone else.
@@dawnette245 He should have won the Oscar for “The Verdict,” but he was robbed. They finally gave it to him a year or two later, for “The Color of Money.”
The people of this world now would do well to look at The Newman’s generation and see what good, moral human decency can look like. In 2022 we look like idiots compared to them. So very sad.
I love how they put them together...but they were always together ..when I met them in NY, they were together with one of the daughters...they were so sweet and so unhollywood...they truly are a one of the most influential couples of the Arts....Thank u both...
I miss Paul Newman. What a great human being. His products at the store for his Newman dressing and his Newman pizza are still helping people with money toward their needs! A prestigious actor too along with his wife! ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I'm very proud to live in CT, the home to The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp. It's in a very beautiful corner of CT. Recently, a fire destroyed buildings/property which miraculously has been built back up with donations. He was a truly remarkable man, living his last days in CT. Thank you Mr. Newman and Mrs. Newman for your outpouring of love and generosity to others.
Paul Newman was in his Tiger Sunbeam sitting in his car waiting for the signal to change. We were both stopped on Franklin. His car was moving towards east, my car was moving towards west. Before the cars moved I looked at my left side and there was Paul Newman wearing a cap hat. I told my mom, Jane, there's Paul Newman. He was driving to Beechwood Street. Yes his eyes were bright blue eyes. That same day mom and I drove to the Market on 3rd and Fairfax. Sitting on a table drinking coffee ☕️ there was a man, wearing a white suit, white shoes, a straw hat, having coffee sitting on the coffee's island. It was Wil Geer I thought what a day. Mom and I both saw Paul Newman and Wil Geer on the same day. Wow. I'm Cindy Taylor. True fact. I was there.
If you're not afraid to cry .... then this will surely have you prove it! Two wonderful and amazing people whose acting abilities are only surpassed by their generosity and wonderful hearts. As an Aussie kid, I mostly saw cowboy movies at the Saturday afternoon pictures, but as a teenager, I fell in love with Paul Newman and the movies of both Joanne Woodward and Paul Newman. They were the epitome of Hollywood actors! I admire them both for not only the movies they made, but for their selfless work and their amazing generosity in their causes to brighten the lives of children, and their efforts and their voices to save our planet. May there be more people like them in this world who will follow in their footprints. ❤
So grateful for RU-vid to be able to watch this and see what a role model this couple was. Their legacy of love and compassion for kids with life threatening deseases and their amazing films will always be with us.
Those kids singing was something to write into the stars. Scream it. Scream his name. Psul Newman. Yell it. Echo in the halls of. Eternity. That is a man.
Amazing. Paul was my favorite actor when i was a child at the 60's... And still enjoy watching his extraordinary films. An actor with a diferent and special personality trough the screen.
❤️❤️❤️👍this was golden age and era of Hollywood with beautiful stars and people and some of the most greatest filmmakers they don't make and produce like that anymore well Hollywood golden era was the best and still the best ❤️❤️❤️
Usually the Kennedy Center honoring musicians, movie stars, is a very narcissistic occasion. This one is totally different. Paul Newman and Joan Woodward have shown to be human beings with a very big heart. Two privileged people, who cared for their unprivileged fellow men.
Absolutely utter class both of them n a rarity they both genuinely cared for n children with Lukemia spending their own people money Sally field is class also!
The Kennedy Center Honors were created to honor artistic accomplishment and those who've had a profound impact in their particular artistic genre; it is not and was never meant to be a humanitarian awards ceremony Although there probably have been honorees who happen to be narcissists over the years it, in of itself, is not a "narcissistic" occasion.
Mr.Newman was alarmed early in his career and refused being a Lightweight in a Heavy Weight World... In my humble estimation he Lived as well as any Man could and gave more than most ever can to Children and the less Fortunate!!!
loved Paul Newman I great actor and a great principal man who stood for the writes of kids and was someone who gave his time and his love to everybody who met him
The Hole in the Wall children honoring Paul and Joanne was beautiful!! How funny it would've been if Robert Redford had pulled out cash to repay Paul!🤣
It was something he was so special I fell in love with Paul when I was him in cool hand luck and when I first time I seen my husband to be ; he looked like Paul and I married him plus he was a marine.
In the early 80 ‘s. I was a corporate pilot and landed at Westchester CountyAirport and taxied up to the FBO where corporate Jets park. After shutting down I got out and walked around the front of my parked aircraft and almost got hit by a car! I backed up a step and slammed both hands on the hood of this car. I then saw the driver who quickly stopped and we were eyeball to eyeball. I then realized it was Paul Newman driving the car. I said “whew” and continued to walk along the passenger side of the car as I saw him go “whew”! As I got to the passenger window I looked at him and gave him another “whew”. He smiled and I walked away.
Many scenes with Paul Newman and Tom Hanks were filmed in Chicago area. Unfortunately, it was a busy time for my work schedule, so I could not travel to watch filming.
Oh, God, it's do intense, so emocion yo ser all the speachs antes the young singing yo Paul and Joanne. When I was a child and start going yo the pictures, I start loving he cinema thancks yo Paul Newman and he recomendado like a Hero yo mi. Thancks the video
This was such a joy to watch! Two exceptional human beings. Keep buying Newman’s Own. 100% of the profits go to charity. Warning: Their lemonade is SO good that it’s actually addicting. So addicting that an old friend of mine used to call it “liquid crack” lol
Don't forget the boiled eggs. I saw Joy Harmon in a theater on Magnolia in North Hollywood. She and I were the only two watching the movie titled Pennymaker with Clifton Webb. I was sitting on the right side and she came in sat down on the left side. We stared each other being the only two in the theater. She was blonde, buxom, stuffing her white t-shirt tied, showing her midwaist, covering with a denim shirt. Her hair was a flip like mine. Her blue eyes buggle out. Wears no make-up, naturally. Only a few later years did I see her in Paul Newman's movie titled "Cool Hand Luke" wear he played the cast character Luke. There she was stuffing a tight dress getting ready to tear the seams. There was Joy Harmon the same girl I saw at the theater. So I saw Joy Harmon and my mom, Jane, saw Paul Newman on Franklin driving to Beechwood a few years later. Having seen both Joy Harmon and Paul Newman. Paul was stopped right next to me in his Tiger Sunbeam. True fact. I'm Cindy Taylor
These were two people who tried like hell not to be famous... and worried more about giving their money away than accumulating it. Boy the times have changed in the celebrity world.
In the mid nineties Paul and Joanne used to come to Cooperstown n y on a weekend ride and pull up by the waterfront and sit in the car by the dock. But they would wave and talk to some residents as they drove through to get to the waterfront. The water was always so clear and blue. Very down to earth people. Never look at anyone has being beneath them . They gave to a lot of charities. Paul was a great actor. I think the children are very ungrateful for what he left each one upon his death. He did what he thought was fair. Him and his wife earned that money. Each child was grown ,had families of their own and good finances. He made sure his wife and life partner was taken care of and the rest went to charity. After all children grow up and move out but your spouse grows through life with you. The ups and downs.
I will always remember Paul answering a rather annoying Interviewer who was asking him the same question that was in the gossip magazines about whether or not he had had an affair...I believe..his answer was this: "Why in the world would I go for ground beef when I've got a sirloin steak at home!! I still use it today as it is a classic!! And he sure shut the interviewer up!!
I loved Newman in Cat on a Hot tin roof. And he was never more good looking. Those beautiful blue eyes were just perfect. The Sting was just perfect and you can’t mention him and not discuss Slap Shot, a movie that has me laughing hard every single time I watch it
he was in an ice=cream store where an enthralled lady was staring at him and when they exited he asked her if she knew where her ice-cream was....she said no so he told her she had put it in her purse.
