this video is part of the Pfeiffer’s ongoing CARYATID series from 2004 - these slow-motion videos present excerpts from different boxing matches where one fighter has been digitally removed, illustrating the loneliness and destruction embedded in one half of any two-person battle.

I really enjoyed this installation. A black man fighting an imaginary enemy is such a powerful commentary on racial identity politics, and an Asian man being beaten a person who's identity has been scrubbed from sight is a similarly powerful commentary on the media's portrayal of the perpetrators of Asian hate. Truly powerful stuff.

Each individual frame is paused and the covered up with pixels from the previous frame.
