These Rants keep on getting better and better! The bloody bastards want our rights! Seems like it has become a full-time job telling them to slag off.

I'm not a smoker, I dislike smoking and I'm glad that it was stopped inside buildings for several reasons BUT I'm NOT interested in banning it. I'm in favour of crash helmets but I hated when they made it compulsory even though I would never have gone riding without one. I'm in favour of not interfering with our rights. I get sick of politicians talking about banning or taxing things because they think discouraging them will win votes and that's what Sunak is doing. He plainly has a severe shortage of other ideas, apart from taking away more of our rights. I'm glad you got that one out of your system anyway.

Never give in to these tyrants. Do everything you can to do the opposite to what the say.

100% I owned a snooker club during the ban on public smoking, people don't want to be paying per minute for a table light when they are stood out in the freezing cold for a smoke. I played skittles, 4 people smoked, 2 of us didn't. Pre-ban no prob, post ban they'd bugger off outside most of the evening to smoke. Mass civil disobedience is required on so many fronts now.

At the age of 58, I moved from Aberystwyth to Thailand after 40 years of working for a printing company. I will never come back to the UK, owing to the controls the government want to put on its people. So good on you Paul for this rant. AS we used to say, don't let the bastards grind you down. When anything is banned, the interfering busybodies then look at what the next target is to be, because they just cannot leave anyone alone. There is an argument for banning almost everything, but it takes away freedom of choice. Leave me alone!

My dad smoked for 70years and died aged 79. He didn't have cancer. My grandma died of cancer aged 53 in 1953 of breast cancer. She didn't smoke, weld, work in a factory or breathe dangerous fumes. I am fed up of all this ban, restrict, control, tax and oppression we are suffering. After WW2, the world was told the fascists were defeated. But hwat happened to those that survived? It seems to me their politics have crept into the modern world of politics and BIG business. They don't want us earning, self employed, smokers, drinkers, meat eaters, farmers, motorists and such like. The want us enslaved in pigeon holes 15minutes from work and the socialist shop chain that supply your daily ration of one slice of insect protein fake bread, one portion of foreign made porridge, one portion of insect protein factory meat, one bottle of drinking water and 2g of salt.

I feel the emotions you are going through, here in USA, we too have similar issues. Over controlling govts.

Mass disobedience and refusal to obey unjust laws is what needed but only works if the people stand firm together. We must treat Government with the same contempt they treat us.

I've never smoked and dislike smoking, as its addictive effects killed most of my immediate family. However, when the public are worried about unfettered legal and illegal immigration, the influence of political activism on basic freedoms of choice, and simply paying bills at the end of the month after gross financial mismanagement, to rest your legacy as Prime Minister on cigarette sales to adults who may be asked to go to war for the country, seems deluded.

Spot on Paul. I don’t smoke but that’s my choice, it is not the right of the government to decide who can and who can’t smoke. I remember seat belts, crash helmets and many more ‘rights’ that we’ve lost. By the way I always wear a crash helmet and/or seat belt and fully appreciate the safety aspects of both but again it’s a choice that we no longer have. Red meat will be the next one as that’ll be bad for your health and cost the NHS a fortune. Don’t be fooled the underlying drive of the government here is to Privatise the Health Service.

I've never been a smoker, so this proposed law doesn't affect me directly. The ridiculous point about it is that, from 2027, when the first batch of people affected reach 18, some adults will be allowed to buy tobacco, and others won't. Apart from the inequality in that, how on earth do the government expect to enforce it? In 20 years time, do they expect retailers to check whether a customer is 38 or 39? It is madness.

Politicians nowadays vote for their party and get a whacking wage and pension and have forgotten to work for our lovely country and their hardworking people,well some of them.

TBH I packed in smoking almost 20 years ago, and no longer miss it. But if I thought it would annoy the hell out of our excuse for a government I'd start all over again. You enjoy your roll up Paul and carry on ranting before they ban it!

Tried smoking in my youth didn't like it much. Father and mother both smoked, farther died at 87 and his brother who smoked a pipe died at 99. In Bulgaria everyone smokes, I've no problem with it. I even like the smell especially a pipe or cigar.

I have been a smoker for 20 years and I stopped when I was 33. Then I played here and there with vapes. But it makes me dizzy and not feel good. But when I turned 49 or what I call 50, as it was living my 50th year on the planet. I tried smoking a pipe. What a life changer. Not sure what the difference it is in taxs there, but what enjoyment it is to smoke a pipe. And being a motorcycle and piping channel, I really do enjoy having my time. As pipe tobacco can be stored for many years and most of us have purchased more then we can smoke for the rest of our lives just incase it's starts here in America. I just watched a channel that states that a ban on tobacco sales on people born after 2009. That is crazy to me. But no one cares as it doesn't effect the majority, it only effects the young that are not of age to fight the ban. But eat all the sugar, and drink all the caffeine you want. Drink till you vomit! I love the leaders that tell you " we do this to protect people" as the rules and laws do not apply to them.

Ah the golden age for freedom in the uk. 1970 to 2000. I think historians will look back at those years as the "happy decades". I do feel the jackboot of our glorious ugh leaders squeezing the fun out of life in virtually every aspect....

I quit a few years ago but will occasionally enjoy a smoke amongst friends. It's crazy how expensive a pack of cigarettes has gotten.

"Under the plan anyone born on or after 1 January 2009 - in effect anyone who is 14 or younger now - will not legally be able to buy cigarettes in England during their lives as the smoking age is raised by one year every year" I think this is fine so the future generations would no longer prolong this life threatening habit in society.

What makes a politician so much of a genius that they know, the moment they win an election, what's "good" for everyone else? And just what is this so called, "Common Good", anyway? Ban smoking, then ban alcohol, sugary drinks, high 'carbon' food, camping, driving, etc, etc. Soon you will not be allowed to live in your own house. Governments should be seen but not heard!

If you were born before 2009 you won’t be banned from smoking, the government, unusually supported by the opposition, are trying to stop young people becoming addicted to the toxic poisonous habit of smoking by banning the sale of tobacco to anyone born after 2009. And, having seen the effects of smoking first hand on a cancer ward, cancer of the throat and mouth amongst others with bits of face and tongue removed to prevent the spread of the disease for once, if it stops people from smoking, Rishi Sunak gets my support.

From time to time I like a good cigar and a glass or 4 of a fine wine…just sitting outside watching the world go by….I do this MAYBE once every year and a half or 2….no big deal….just a relaxing time of meditation and chatting with the ol’ “ball & chain” who I love very much (god I hope she doesn’t see that!….my “water” will be cut off for a month!)…ban smoking?…naw…I’m glad indoors smoking has been banned but to each his own….we’re adults, not children…

I don't mind folks smoking heavily as long as they and not me pay for any smoking related diseases they may incur. I was never dim enough to start smoking in the first place.

Bloody Nora Paul. Do you fancy starting a republic? I'd be passport number 002. A mate who's never smoked said he hated the pub smell after the ban. Would rather tobacco stink than BO stench. I stopped going to the pub after the ban. Too many quisling snitches. It only takes one and the landlord is in bother. Those buggers even complain to the landlord if you're smoking outside now, after we've held the fort all winter.

They don’t want to ban you from smoking. They want to ensure your grandchildren never have the option to start smoking, which seems perfectly fair enough to me.

addicts don't make choices and children under 15 can't smoke anyway so it won't be anything that they'll miss.

You can argue that if less or no one smoked, waiting lists would be shorter, more beds would be free, and the cost to the health service would be a lot lower. You could also argue that having a healthier population would generate more taxes, covering the shortfall from cig taxes, as they would be more active and purchase more services and stuff..... because they are living longer and healthier. My grandfather smoked, died before his time because of it. My dad smoked, got cancer and died before his time. Do yourself a favour, bin the cigs, there's bikes to be fixed 👍

Dave Alan once said about smoking “I drink, but I don’t piss up your leg.” If you want to smoke, fine. But not in outside seating areas of cafes and pubs. It ruins it for the majority that don’t smoke. Also, when was the last time a smoker actually asked those around them if they minded them smoking? Here’s a heads-up smokers… you stink.

Why are you complaining? It will not affect you. It’s The biggest cause of avoidable deaths. I used to smoke, best thing I ever did was give up forty years ago. It’s great not to suffer the stink in the pub too. Worth noting the cross party support.

I don’t understand why a libertarian ( no rules for us plenty for you) government who presumably are well in bed with the tobacco companies would even consider such an idea. Making something illegal clearly doesn’t work otherwise we’d have no smack problem. And it just enables criminal activity. Where do you stop. Biking? Horse riding ( no cos that’s for them by and large) rock climbing? Public education is the way forward, informed choice with people educated in a manner to let them become able to make such choices.

Smoking has been pushed as “cool” for years. How many back handers to film and tv directors to include the hero smoking? Tobacco companies make huge profits but know the health problems. They do not care.

When they eventually get their way and bann smoking our lovely Chancellor is going to have a massive void in his coffers and he's gonna want to need to fill that void. Now just how is he gonna do that?!.. More duty on drink and petrol for starters would probably be right... The joy police are destroying life....

I'm just as p*ssed off as you are Paul but for slightly different reasons.. I do smoke and have spent a good while now talking myself into stopping, I'd just made my mind up and declared a date to stop to my family, but now Sunak says I HAVE to stop I really don't want to.. In effect Sunak's proposed totalitarian legislation has provoked me into not stopping smoking... It's just another step towards living in huge mud hut cities with no heating and intermittent electricity.. (look it up, they're now trialling houses built using compacted MUD as the main constituent of the walls..)
