Actually, he looks down at the monitor (floor monitor of lyrics for Paul and just about 90% of artists on tour) for the lyrics PLENTY throughout the performance. It's a great, heartfelt and inspired performance and SURE Byrne knows the song very well but, look at his eyes - he's reading the monitor.

David Byrne must have been out of his head, missed the words a few times and then fell over.

Ha!! Not really. For one, it’s not his tune, so missing, a few lyrics is quite acceptable. Plus, they were sort of bouncing back-and-forth and interacting. And as far as falling goes, have you ever seen David Byrne’s stage presentation? He is all over the place, using every inch of the stage, not really planning exactly what he’s going to do, so he was just doing his thing on a stage that was completely foreign to him. He took a few steps backwards, and there happened to be a microphone stand there. So absolutely not out of his mind, but very present to the contrary.
