Car reviews aren't my thing either, I haven't watched a SOL video in forever. Last one was somewhere last year. He completely lost my interest. I don't even know what Seb does nowadays, last time I saw a video of him he switched to French completely.
Paul was my favourite uk car RU-vidr at one point. Not sure what happened really, he seemed to stop caring. I’m not hating, I love Paul. Just my observation on his channel. Bring it back Paul ❤
Paul mate, start posting some behind the scenes of this FIA stuff on your channel. Different content that I think a lot of people would enjoy. I would defo be tuning back into SOL if there was a series around that
Tony is so right when it comes to people not caring about things like car spotting and buying/selling new cars anymore. I used to live for the moment of a new car pickup vid, now if I see one on my feed and there's like a 10% chance of me caring to click on it.
@@Gotadime92 I think more so the genre being played out. There are still some interesting cars coming out. Maybe its just more of there being a content overload. Way back when in early-mid Shmee, Salomondrin and even SOL things were exciting, rare cars actually seemed rare because not every single person had a press pass to see it early. I think besides Sam for the most part I moved on from "super car" content to car rebuild content early on with people like B is for Build, JDM stuff with AdamLZ and Tommyfyeah and track/grip with Misha.
@@Riful yeah, I was around 16/17 when Paul had the original R8 and it was the first time I’d ever had an insight into what it was like actually owning a super car. It was a brand new novelty having such personal access to these cars.
I completely completely agree with you (Sam) and Paul on the ‘nostalgia’ part of like car spotting. If I’m driving along and see a gen1 gallardo, which funnily enough I actually did see one the other day, then it excites me and wows me FAR more than seeing a newer SVJ or sf90 or whatever. The stuff we no longer see all over RU-vid and social media is more appealing to me. Seeing Shmee uploading endless collection tour videos is just boring as hell. How he isn’t bored of seeing the same cars over and over again I don’t know! Older nostalgia stuff is far more interesting
I started watching Paul before watching Sam actually, but now I only watch Sam, I think it’s indeed too many clickbait’s 😢but I also stopped watching JWW… only Tim and Sam for me
I mean he doesn't have the mental capacity to take anything in or not ramble nonsense. Case in point, when he said the drag racers he was watching were doing 0-200mph in 1.5 seconds 😂
I try to come back every couple of months but it’s just the same thing. Either testing a “new” car he has which is a manufacturer long termer. I’m happy he’s found success with the FIA. It all went slightly to shit when he sold the Lamborghini. The comments are full saying “do road trips, take it back to the OG content” and they go ignored.
Great to see guests returning to the pod! Guest suggestion: It's Joel (I believe you already know him!) It'd be cool to hear about his journey with RU-vid (how different it was for him, getting into the game some years after you, Sam), a general chat about what cars he's experienced at his price point (what's good, what's not) and what his plans are for the future. Also it'd give him a platform - I think his videos are great and more people would enjoy his channel, he's almost a young STG...
That’s awesome Paul, congratulations on the new opportunity! As far as the Mercedes scripted presenting jobs go, welcome to the corporate business world. If you did it few times and did well (even with them flipping the script) they would most likely give you more creative leeway as you may be more sought out to perform more often. But either way, it’s good to hear your career taking off into things you want to do.
Paul didn’t listen to any constructive criticism or feedback and drove his channel into the ground making himself completely irrelevant on YT… not a fan.

Typical disingenuous rationale from Wallace who fails to mention that his own channel is in a death spiral with fewer than 1% of his subscribers actually watching some of his content. It basically became a race to the bottom between him, TGE and AHR. He won, but the others are close behind.
Can't really stand any of the above really, Shame as TGE was Ok to start with but I can't remember what the trigger point was when I thought, I can't stand you any longer.
I stopped watching tge years ago. Ahr is archie hamilton? Cannot stand the guy, ever since he was on tge’s channel non-stop. It annoyed me a lot. Jww and stg/btg and Mat Armstrong alongside Tavarish are the only car channels I am subscribed to. I occasionally watch Shmee, but he started to annoy me a lot a long time ago, so I unsubbed. He posts something interesting every now and then, so I just check it.
@@atilaszlo8288 100% agree and for me the reason is simple SOL is no longer Paul Wallace’s main job/source of income. It’s a hobby not a career. Same for Archie Hamilton (also an annoying posh moron who repeats himself constantly and is doing his best to take a great family legacy and flush it down the toilet) and especially TGE. I always feel with TGE when I do watch his videos that we (the viewer) are inconveniencing him and he’s ’too busy’ to make the video so he just films utter dross and throws it online. The thing that saves TGE is he’s not a moron despite claiming to be one. He’s just churning cause he’s earning way beyond the average bear thru anything and everything. So again RU-vid is not his main business. Shmee is just an annoying ned that he hadn’t come from epic wealth (don’t believe the hype, Shmee was a very wealthy young man before starting RU-vid) and if he did have the cars would be one of those boring know it all losers you run away from at car meets.

Now he's a complete narcissist who has 80% of is video content comprising his own face, and all his thumbnails look like he saying "He, look at me. I'm wonderful. Its a shame Paul never grew up, matured or changed with the times. It's no surprise no one really watches his videos anymore. I remember a time he was within a couple of 100k subs of Shmee.
@@alastairwhite1607 I would have agreed with you if I had read this comment 8 to 10 years ago when he was doing really well. But in my opinion it is valid. Audiences mature with time and new generations just aren't interested in the same things. The clickbait, thumbnails with text all in caps and numerous exclamation marks lost its appeal years ago. His views reflect his audience interest, and when you are reaching approximately 1% to 1.5% of your subs actually viewing the video, surely although 'harsh' the comment is true. Which I assume is why he is diversifying.

Monaco is the most boring race of the season. It retains its place just because it`s Monaco, it needs spicing up somehow. Its been the same race every year for as long as i can remember. Mansell couldn`t get past Senna and he was 2+secs a lap faster.
I saw Paul cruising along in the OG Audi R8 press car (The one from the Top Gear segment among others) the other day on the motorway. Ngl I haven't watched a video from him in a while but glad to hear he's keeping busy!
Paul seems like a nice guy but that being said I remember that he didn't engage with his audience too much plus all the 'Idiots' videos he used to get away with in 2016 are not acceptable nowadays. He needs to understand that most of his audience matures with time.
It does make it feel kinda horrid, trying to enjoy people like Shmee's videos when he feels like he treats his audience like they're a bunch of kids/rubes who can't figure out that the clickbait is clickbait.... my policy for years is "if I cringe to see this in my history, I won't hit play on it". and it means that basically all car RU-vidrs get excluded.. (it's been exhausting, watching people who should respect their audiences treat them lie they're all morons who can't see what's being pulled.. for example; seeing a millionaire Koenigsegg dealer owner like MrJWW clickbaiting with posting a video, and after 12 hours changing the name/thumbnail to try gaining a few thousand extra clicks and doing this FOR DAYS... his Aston Martin trackday video had over 8 thumbnail and 10 name changes in 4 days)
Used to watch Paul, Seb, TGE all the time. Seb's just became clickbait and died. So did Paul's and awful Archie popping up in every TGE video was the end of that for me as well. Even Me Me Me Shmee doesn't seem the same anymore. Times have changed and Matt, Freddie, Hoovie etc have better content and is watched far far more.
Stopped watching Paul a long time back.. such a nice fella but his channel was a bit dull.. had no direction and kept filling it with random shot from Peugeot or SEAT. Hopefully a career elsewhere will be fruitful.
For some reason I got the feeling that Sam was interviewing Paul for a job with the Behind the Glass podcast and Tony was trying to convince Sam why he should keep him as his cohort 😂 In all honesty. I think all RU-vid presenters will have to continue to refine their channels or they will fade away. Furthermore I think there is an element of age being a relevant concern as the content creation market becomes more competitive. I think Paul pivoting towards these new opportunities is great, best of luck.
The word “Passion” is a key on growing and continuation on anything, including RU-vid. That exact word is what brought Shmee and Sam to where they are today. I subbed to Shmee and Sam way back in 2015 (when they just bought the gt4 and f type), and i can see their passion keep on going in their content quality. This is why i still watch Shmee and Sam regularly as of now.
Shmee has a team of people driving and filming to get multiple views of the same drive. SOL literally just sticks a go pro on the dash and the entire video is just him driving/talking.
@@CincySupercarI did the Gumball with Shmee in 2018 and he doesn’t have a team with him. He had one other guy who helped out, but it’s all him. The guy is a machine and his work rate is insane. He was really nice too.
Can you spin out After the Chequered Flag to Paul - you and Tony pop into cohost every now and then. Given how much bigger F1 is getting it might do well
Tony - getting very confident over recent episodes how fast you are.... time to go racing and put your nuts on the block mate! :D As a club racer, those redbull ring laps looked like a lot of room for improvement (meant politely!) Would make for some good content too.
His arrogance to not communicate with the audience along with changing his focus on what to produce. Drifter, motorcyclist, spotter etc etc. got the murci couldn’t afford to drive it. Got the Lambo bike couldn’t afford to insure it.
Not sure Paul is very up to speed with what he is going to do given that most of the basic questions Sam asked him he didn't know. He is a nice guy but sort of needs to wake up a little bit more.
Its 1 turbo with a very sophisticated hybrid system that basically elimates the need for turbo 2 as it virtually destroys all turbo lag with the hybrid system providing torque fill acting as a booster from what I understand
41:22 Stuff like Car week in LA and Monaco GP will ruin you from ever wanting to turn around or go to cars and coffee for awhile. Valkyrie and SP3 would be the only current days spots I would go crazy over.
In one of Paul's early videos with his R8 he couldn't get his head around the fact that the capacity of the fuel tank in liters was bigger than the displacement of the engine. He lost me at that point 🤣
Just had a look (for the first time in years) at Sol and fuck me his videos struggle to get 10k now ileven ones that have been out a month , no wonder he’s ditched it

Sorry but Russel is not on the same level as verstappen or leclerc on either 1 lap pace or full race. I think your being a bit biased to think that. He's clearly a talent but he's not verstappen level in any way.
Tbbh the only cars that really pique my interest now are classics and American hotrods. Let's face it the roads are in such a bad condition and the amount of traffic and proliferation of speed cameras just make having a supercar or hypercar a waste of time. Not to mention there are less of them about so make it more of a red letter day when you do see one...
New car reviews are very dull. Hardly watch any. I'm more of an E30 M3, 964 RS, M635 CSI man. Don't get me started on F1's. Started going all over to spot them. Just seen spot number 16 at Goodwood 81MM.
Stopped watching Paul even though he was my favourite youtuber years ago. I like him as a guest on here, he should be a permanent fixture or bring back the F1 casts.
Was once a subscriber to all the channels....now only Harry's Garage !!...they are all struggling for views & tired content...Even Shmee , 2.6 million subs but averages 120 k views , 2.5 million subs dont watch him...the old school buy car , mod car , sell car is done !...hopefully they are all making money outside of RU-vid because they wont be earning much in Adsense from their views
Thing is, I do kinda get what you mean. I find him SOMETIMES a bit miserable, a bit too opinionated and his constant ‘this is crap, that is shit’ just so boring. Like, anything he doesn’t own he hates? I don’t really understand. In this episode he genuinely thought he was faster than most of the AM drivers in British GT?! I don’t know. I’m here for Sam mainly and whenever Tony gives his thoughts on a car or motorsport or whatever then I just find myself tuning out.
