Weller was a fashion victim of the 80's, his Jam fellas still in it's own Jam post punk way. The soul disco pop Beat surrender was the Style Council awake. Weller become a pop star, the frontman and exbeatle, Peter Gabrielish and who maniac composer of the Jam. Buckler and Foxton just follow him for maintain the band, they whas the Satu Quo of the genuine The Jam of the beginning, Weller was only the primaDonna, the winner at last.

The drummer and bass player were called Rick Buckler and Bruce Foxton...... I'll say their names as its obviously beneath Weller to says their names.... they helped him become famous enough so he could do things like form Style Council, the band no-one wanted.....

"We got a drummer and a bassist" like respect? They're the people who got him in that room!
@nigelarmitage1732

Thinking about this further, I'm sure Steve Brookes is as surprised as anybody about his importance to The Jam, as per PW's comments here and elsewhere (including the recent About The Young Idea doc, where of course he also featured). He probably felt he had a somewhat less significant role during the 77-82 period - i.e. when The Jam released their music, toured the world and were Britain's biggest band. Of course, that's because he wasn't in the band, unlike 'the bassist' and 'the drummer''. Or Bruce and Rick, to use their names!

He mentions the fun he had with them-I don't see any lack of respect. Rick was a bit of a knobhead to him during the making of The Gift, said ' these aren't drum songs' (!), so it goes both ways. I don't think he had much in common with the other two, just how it goes.

His comments are so true. Artists don't get or maybe don't want the experience of playing the pubs and clubs in front of a handful of people. Singers today want instant fame from reality TV and most are never heard of again after their 15 minutes of fame

I dunno about that, the way most aspiring musicians make their money nowadays is playing live, and for every Ed Sheeran there are loads who pay their due and all that and rack up solid loyal fanbases without neccessarily making it big. They've just announced the X Factor is finishing recently so the execs behind it evidently see a change in how things are working.
