You guys have hit the Weller vibe on the head here. The passion...the blues...the rhythm and blues...the experimentation....the skill...the soul. All wrapped up in the ecstatic joy of playing and performing live.
This man has been the soundtrack to my life, I am 53 and loved his music since being around 8 years old. This performance is right up there as one of his finest, OK a slight hitch with the feedback building up to THAT instrumental break, but when he gets it right the 2nd time......away you go, the intensity of it all coming together = game over!
Paul Weller is such a Goat. He's been making music since the late 70's at least, with his Mod/post-punk band "The Jam". Through the 80's with Style council - probably not your thang - and as a solo artist since then. 🔥🔥 Try: The Jam - Going Underground, The Jam - Start or Paul Weller - Wild Wood
you guys have no idea who this man is , he it’s the Mod father , the greatest songwriter of his generation and then the next too , he came out of the pink movement , but never musically took a backward step , relentlessly pushing , the most influential of the last 4 decades
Paul Weller is British music royalty. His back catalogue of music defies description and he's still going strong after over 40 years in the business. You need to check him out !
having seen weller live through from the Jam, the style council and his solo years I'd have to say this period of early - mid 90's was arguably his finest. The band as a whole, the energy, the songs, the live performance of it was just something else.
Dei here. Thanks for the wonderful reaction. After letting you down with the "one more song" chant after Weller's 5th Season, and the please with your continuation DVD unsatisfactory ending, I just needed to make sure you got a proper one more song. Shadow of the Sun was the first song I learnt in full on guitar when I was young after buying a music magazine that had the song transcribed. Great effort to finish the reaction despite the kids at banging at the door! Respect!
I love the fact that you guys were all into this. Weller is a total legend in England. Two of his albums go down in history as all time classics - Wild Wood and Stanley Road. Please check out Country guys, you won’t be disappointed.
Best paul weller live performance for me is Whirpools End live on Later with Jools Hollland 1996. Full strings, brass and the bass breakdown is awesome. Then the guitars explode. The interplay is amazing. Worth a look! Great song tho. Good work guys.👍
Always the bollocks. He never disappoints you when playing live. Been going to see him since 1978 . I recommend you watch Above the Clouds and Sunflower from this gig. Wolverhampton 1994.
Thank you, I love watching you watch this - I have grown up with The Jam and Weller since I was 12 years old, still love listening to The Jam, the Style Council & Paul Weller, I’ve seen them all live (more than once each), but watching you watch this, makes me realise how much I take some of this stuff for granted. Even now in 2023 Weller is brilliant & has to be seen live! The in-your-face attitude is still there nowadays, (this is probably why I’m a moody, angry old git😂)
I was so lucky to be at this gig came out the gig thinking stap in for the ride wellers back i was 23 at the time seen him live over 40times will go down as one of the best songwriters from these shores 👊
The amazing drummer is Steve White! It's hardly surprising that Steve is such a great drummer, as the person he practiced with and who was his best mate was, Gary Wallis, of Pink Floyd, MD and drummer to Sir Tom Jones, and many more.... Steve can be seen these days doing Drumming Tutorials on RU-vid....well worth a visit for aspiring drummers out there!!!
Paul Weller top British hit machine. Mod/Punk/blues , check out his early hits when he fronted the Jam. Down in the tube station at midnight. You need more Jam ,in your life .Love the channel ,respect from the UK
That was brilliant to see your reaction. I saw Paul Weller on this same tour at the Brighton Dome, and Shadow of the Sun was equally as good, it is one of the few occasions in music when the music truly has taken me to another place. For me that live line up of Paul Weller, Steve Craddock guitar, Steve White drums, Yolande Charles bass and Helen Turner keyboards is the best Weller live line up and Weller at his absolute peak? I do hope you check out some of his other stuff? The Live Wood L.P. and DVD from this era are well worth a listen and watch.
You should know his band the jam was only the second band to go straight to no. 1 in the charts since the Beatles , when at 23 he disbanded the jam to pursuer his musical KANI , as you may guess he is the musical co start of my life
When Going Underground entered the UK at charts at No.1 in March 1980 it was the first song to enter at No.1 since Slade in 1973, & Going Underground was the 10th single to debut at No.1. So The Jam definitely were not the second band since The Beatles to go straight to No 1. The Jam had 4 No.1 UK singles 3 of which debuted at No.1 the other debuted at No.3.
Ps .. not for a reaction but check out Paul weller live at hard park in front of 15000 people in London in early 2000 or 2001 .... Paul weller at his peak the whole concert is stellar
As a drummer in England (albeit amateur) Steve is one of my favourite English drummers..World drummers, even. Absoloutely gorgeous touch and so clean in his execution. Immense playing. Weller is so lucky to have Steve bringing what he does to those songs, so much a part of Wellers sound is Steve's drum parts and his playing. Among drummers who know what's what, he's well admired, even if you don't like the Wellers music.
In the UK Paul Weller is known as, "The Modfather," he's one of the most influential musicians of the last 40 years. You should check out, "The Changing Man," and, "Sunflower." ❤
MarvellouS Eyes ! Ciao GuyZ . Great rythm section i have to say . This is american blueZ eheh ! Very enjoyable ! Thank you for all the great (early) reactionZ . They are really great instrumentists that play for the armony of the song . This video is another Gem and the presence of Jon is perfect ; we can enjoy the Trio ! Saluti a Dolly anyway ! The singer is very talented his low tone is pretty personal in my opinion ! Suzi the pronunciation is perfect ! Your empathy means for us followers !
Paul Weller solo is amazing..,but check out his early days as front man with the Jam…you’ll love it. Strange town, Tube Station at midnight, Going Underground to name but a few.
You want to see Paul really getting it on try his cover version of Lennon's "instant Karma" or Paul's " One xOne" live, or "Sunflower" made around same time as "Shadow of the sun", drummer is Stevie White who was in The Style Council with Paul and Mick Talbot.
You guys should check out his first band The Jam. He pulls that face a lot. I’d recommend Eton Rifles, Down in the Tube Station at Midnight, Going Underground… there are loads of great tunes
