Most of the relationships on this and many other shows, movies, books, comics, anime, plays, etc are not functional we where not expecting Delena to be perfect Stelena was not perfect either if we are being honest the reason why more people prefer Delena over Stelena is because of the buildup they had just as why most people prefer Steroline over Stelena because of the buildup.

Not even a million average viewers anymore in the span of 2 seasons, not even. So what went wrong!? And that is only counting the CW network. You don't wanna know how much it got watched illegally online. So, I personally base the DE fandom a good 20-25% and hardcore fans are probably around a good 5% more would be extremely exaggerating as overall viewers of TVD is a good portion and not everyone "ships". But, definitely the most annoying one's and the loudest which make DE guys without common sense think they're greater which is honestly hilarious as we are in no contest whatsoever. LMFAO. So naturally, there was sexual tension. And who says that's a bad thing? You want sexual tension and passion in a relationship. If that's not there, like with stelena, that's a problem. Stefan and Elena loved each other, but that's long gone now. They both fell out of love with each other and they are fine without each other. But Damon and Elena literally cannot live without each other. That's love bitch.
