That's because of his unique humble and modest personality... I would place him easily on one level with pistorius and entwistle. It's not necessary for him to show up with impressive solos... You listen and think.. Hell, this song wouldn't be worth it without Pino
Mate he blows the shit off the floor. Imagne being there and having that course through ones body... wholey faaark Bass payers are not usualy set at that level but fukn hell mate...Ths song wouldnt be the same wthout exactly thsi bass player
It's funny: to this very day, this is more a song for Pino to snine than Paul. I was a kid back then, mesmerized with this sound coming from a radio, and realized this song is played by a bass and a vocal. Like no other instrument existed or mattered. Those licks around the vocal line, that's what made it memorable.
How many music videos on youtube have you ever found that you spend you're time focused purely on the bass player? Pino is just exceptional. Adds so much to the song.
I used to see Pino Palladio playing with some local bands in Cardiff in the late 70s andearly 80s. One band I used to love was called Red Beans and Rice. I even gave him a lift in the back of my gold Hillman Avenger once.
I met him after A gig with my best man and our wives. They were both swooning, and Paul gave us all the time in the world, chatting for many quarter of an hour. Genuine nice, grounded guy.
Maaaaaan the golden era of LIVE performances..back when musicians could play an extended version of a hit and nail it! The Tube was such musical staple in our household!! Miss it BAD!
Pure talent! What a performance! Paul Young and the A-ha from Norway have never disappointed their fans. Breathless performances, no rude manners or bad speech, just good music and stunning vocals. Their high notes are never shouted, real singers. Paul Young's and Morten Harket's voices, different but equally great, will be my favourite ones for ever.
I remember watching this on the Tube and falling in love with Paul Young. I recorded it and must have watched it over and over again!! I think the tape eventually wore out so it's great to catch up with it again after all these years.
They are fabulous. I especially love their part on my other video 'Everything Must Change' from 3:30 See here . . . Paul Young Everything Must Change LIVE on The Tube with Pino Palladino on Bass
LOL . he sure like's to bob that head , but dam them runs and sound back then and what he has done since then OMG he's the top of the list when it come's to bass player's
I was twelve or thirteen when this came out. To think I used to take musicianship for granted - I was spoilt, I guess. That bass playing is different level though.
Nossa...Como eu adoro essa música!!! Pode passar anos e anos , sempre a ouvirei 😍😍😍👏👏 Nostálgica e aletrica ao mesmo tempo com esse contrabaixista perfeito!!!🎉🎉
I liked it better when he had the two girl back-up singers. The short-haired girl did the high notes back in the day. I think their names were Maz and Kim.
Love this song, one of my faves from the 80s. I also love the original by Jack Lee... a far more raw and punky sound. Saw Pino play with The Who in Perth quite a few years back, what a great night
Remember seeing Paul before he was famous in his soul revue band The Q Tips, and even then thought this guy is a great front man, and lo and behold……….
Thanks for posting this. Brilliant music. Is this a VHS Video Recording? Although the audio is great, the pic is a bit fuzzy. Any idea if this is available on DVD or Blueray. Kind regards. Much appreciated.
Hi, it's DVD recorded from video. I don't think it's available on DVD/Blueray? I may be wrong but I have never found it and it took me years just to find this (and the other songs from this show that I have on here) :)
Thanks for your reply and info. i will do a google search and see if it is availablle on DVD. i would much appreciate it if you could kindly send me the title of the video, so that it would make it easier for me to search. Have you checked out some of the other videos of the same song posted on You Tube. In fact all of them are brilliant in their own right.
Kunyuraman Kurup It's not from a video as such. This performance was on TV back in the 80's on a UK show called The Tube. I had recorded it on video at the time but lost it, luckily I found a lady who had also recorded it and she sent me a copy :)
