In early March we took advantage of the cold snap to ice climb the frozen falls. The ice was variable and slightly overhanging in spots. (WI4) We opted to top rope the climb.
Awesome! On my list for next winter in Bend. Is the process of setting up a top rope there pretty straightforward? Was climbing in lee vining this winter and it took like an 90mim plus to walk around set the rope
Its some of the best water ice, relatively consistent in Oregon! The top rope is option is pretty straight forward as you come in from the top already. For this side we just anchored to the metal railing on the overlook above. Last year we climbed the other side of the falls and anchored to a tree about 20 ft back from the top. A 60M rope was more then enough for either side.
