Perhaps Albo is making an attempt to bring Australia to a non aligned position. Playing the long term during the decline of the current empire requires swimmers with those who do the smash and grab on the way down as well as wearing floaties to not completely drown the nation. Being transparent has its place, but it enables your enemies to plan accordingly into something far worse because an open book is easy to burn. Not attacking is useful it enables your ears to receive more information. It's not losing in the long term that matters or not fighting so hard the victory is too expensive. After China banned Australian imports after questions were raised with regards to origins of covis, Australia's trade minister & staff needed to actively travel the world, seeking more trading partners Europe,Japan ,India, Vietnam, Sirlanka etc .Having China as one's major trading partner will always be a rocky one-sided arrangement at best.
