@@sickofthelies1627 Some people? I'd wager a bet that most people who get famous are nepo babies. The days of "small town kid makes it big" are almost dead.
It helped a lot that his mom Mitzi Shore was the founder of The Comedy Store in West Hollywood. I'm sure a lot of comedians sucked up to his mom through him
I love Pauly. Stand-up just wasn't his thing. He's a comedic actor with a VERY unique style and he's not for everyone. That being said, he's just as kooky these days as ever and I bet he's hella fun to hang out with. He seems like a really, really good guy.
It was hard for him because he was handed the career for a stand up comic. He never got much respect to start with because of that. He knew it and he tried to use that as a schtick. He joked on himself, but all that did was lower his credibility even more. No one took him seriously. And let's call a spade a spade..he wasn't that funny. He was definitely a character. But he wasn't that great of a "stand up" comedian. If u took the weasel and put him in today's sketch comedy tho. I think he would of been a hit. Like you see on Facebook, TikTok, RU-vid, Twitter. He more of an "influencer" lol
It’s also hard not to see that he is how the 1990s will be perceived by every future generation. His gimmick is a product of the 90’s and could ONLY survive in the 90’s.
Wow… He just was not very good…. I mean, if anyone was going to be on a major TV show like this, you would think they would prepare some good material, no?
This is like, the definition of "having no shame". I have no idea of what this guy's deal is. I would be ashamed if seeing myself acting this way. Like an old retired porn star, wanting to buy and burn every single VHS tape she's ever been on
His moms and step dad actually started the comedy store a famous comedy club in LA he’s been around it all his life check out his new comedy documentary
Grew Up with Encino man ,and pauly shore made that movie . I don't care what anybody says about his talent, they are just crusty ,AWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! LoI
100%! I loved all of the movies he was in. Stand-up just isn't his thing and his style isn't for everyone. That's okay, that can be said of lot's of brilliant comedians.
@@ehrenschopenhaur9159 pretty much what @lamota said. She just had lots of connections due to who she was. Listen to tiger belly podcast or joe organ podcast or even the Theo von podcast and they talk about stuff like that. Sometimes those guys couldn’t even get sets in because she had favorites and those favorites would get all the stage time they wanted. In a way she chose and regulated the talent that rolled out of that place and I’m sure her sons fame was curated in that Very same way
I grew up in around this generation. I watched Spies Like Us, loved The Goonies and anyone else remember Strange Brew? I loved that era, I just never ever understood this guy. Not even his movies were good to me, but I think he's a really good person and I wish him all the luck.
What's funny is that Paul E kept it og with his style now looking back on it. Why do I feel that his style is looking more like generation z and x would wear these now???
Not very good stand-up. But he was an entertaining host on MTV. He was pretty funny and helped make MTV super popular at the time. His early movies we're shameless comedy. Pretty funny. Over time they got worse.
Talk about a presentation that was very much of its time. The guy dressed like a hippie and talked like an early 90s stoner. Obviously the whole thing doesn't age well, but there's a reason he was in movies and doing stand up. Some things are just rooted in their time and don't translate well a couple of years later. Pauly Shore wasn't a guy who was going to fit in during the Era of Extreme, once it got rolling. He was more of a fit in that Bill and Ted kind of world.
You're right, he fitted during around those periods 1988-94 when freestyle, metal rock, and the hippie revival (early 90's) were at it's peak. When those three threads got out of date by 95, it was all over for Pauly's character and mainstream acting career. For some reason, he never grew out of that era. That's probably why he never had success in the late 90's and beyond.
As I was growing out my hair I had a group of friends that were seniors I was a.freshman they all called me.pauly bc I looked like Pauly shore I didn't really know who he was at the time I definitely see it now
This is objectively awful. And subjectively awful. It all makes sense now. He was tolerable in movies and that gave him a false sense of security with his act. But he was never actually funny.
