If you listen closely, at 4:11 she actually hit the note! She probably had moved back from the mic a little bit to prevent her whistle from being too overwhelming, not knowing that her mic was very low. The whistle's tone was also very light, both here and in the improved version.
yes i can hear her whistle. They just made her louder in the official version. Her mic was so low volume here, but it sounds exactly like the dubbed version
Mariah's mic was soooo low!!! she even belted some notes in the climax and towards the end (plus the whistle) of the song, but you can barely hear her!
A real pity because her absolutely sublime voice is the one that makes this song really worth it!!! 😰 Besides the other women didn't have a remarkable performance at all I think, above all Laura who only screamed and strained.She didn't sound good at all whereas Gloria maybe did a better and more acceptable job but it was mediocre and the very nothing compared to Mariah's vocals.
i have to agree with you.. REALLY it is sooo hard to hear and so deal with others on stage.. it is hard enough to hear yourself let alone all these people

she attempted a clearer whistle at 6:19-20 during the reprise... clearly she hit the notes but was enhanced in the dubbed version where parts of the reprise were used as the ending on the dubbed version
She 100% did it I can hear it begin at 4:12 but it's very faint and fades completely but it is there. I've enhanced the audio and I can hear it slightly better. The edited version they isolated her mic which captured the whistle.
That’s probably one of the reasons Mariah just ain’t into these big moments with lots of singers. She’d prefer to collaborate with talented people haha!!! Laura was so confused and was messing with Mariah’s parts and also there’s always mic problems that require the performances to be dubbed. Even in the 2001 “What more can I give” performance, everyone had mic problems in the undubbed performance.

I think it's Mariah's turn that all of you are saying Laura's turn. There is a progression of artist as they reach the climax. That verse was a solo part before the chorus before Pavarotti. It is very fitting Mariah sings that part. Doesn't it not occured to you that it's very odd that Matiah did not have a solo belting part when she is the most capable in that stage. She would not just belt that early or belt at all if it was other's part because she's professional at singing and has the perfect musicality to not ruin the arrangement. It was not Laura's, it was Mariah's part. Laura just interrupted and just wanted to have a spotlight after the fail she made at 1:50-1:55, but ended up straining. Just accept that!

@JimPatrick0 we were discussing if she had actually hit a whistle note from 4:12 to 4:15 hehe the edited performance contains this whistle note we're referring to and in this video which is the unedited one we can only hear a little pitch so far that we're not sure if she really did it and they enhanced it up or did not at all.
You can hear the beginning Mariah's whistle very faintly in the background! but i think she re-recorded or they just raised the volume on it for the dubbed DVD!
At 2:54 you can hear Mariah about to sing her part and even moving her hand and Laura STOLE that part in revenge because during her part at 1:54 the mic was off. Low, REALLY LOW and competitive. That's why they belt together. It was MARIAH'S turn.
