We used to spray the beds with diesel back in the 60s and 70s and it worked good. If you spilled in front of the paver you got yelled at and had to buy the operator a case of beer . Lol
Went from tractor to dumptrucks been doing this work 4 5 years now make good money and sleep in my own bed they work 70 hours week I work the same after taxes 1300 dollars
I used to haul asphalt. We would always prepare chicken in aluminum foil, with BBQ sauce. Dig a whole in the hot mix in the truck, bury it where we knew where it was. Then drive to the jobsite. By the time you got to the jobsite that chicken was cooked to prefection and falling off the bone. Time to eat. It usually took about an hour to cook, depending on how hot the asphalt was tha we got from the plant.
Yeah man there's some guys that do that cuz that asphalt is almost 400 degrees these guys rap meat like chicken or steak and potatoes in aluminum foil and then put it in burlap sacks and it Cooks it it's amazing it's weird but it's cool and some of the best meals I've had was cooked from asphalt 😂
Thank you for the informative video. Starting my first day tomorrow and this was great to see! Don’t mind avatar my daughter hacked into my RU-vid acct haha
Finding that sweet spot on the brake pressure was always the challenging part for me. If we were paving uphill, i didnt really need any brake pressure but if we were going downhill or on a straight away, i always worried about my brake pressure. Sometimes id step on it a little too hard withiut even realizing it. You just get focused in the hand signals and stuff and you dont realize you sent the brake pedal to the floor.
Thanks for that information. Never did asphalt. I always wondered about that part with the paver pushing and driver not rolling out on him and was it all just a matter of applying the right pressure during the pave. Thanks
@Revelation_22_13 it takes practice and communication. They'll tell you if you're about to roll out or if you have too much brake pressure. You'll know if you're holding the brake too much if the paver is trying to push the truck and they're not budging the truck. The dump guy will usually holler at you if something goes wrong. Even experienced truck drivers roll out. It sucks but just get out and grab a shovel and learn from your mistakes.
Oh man ! I have a test drive scheduled in 2 days I’ve only driven 10 speeds but apparently I’m going to be driving 9 speeds never heard of those before
Mist a Lil diesel in your bed and hinges and it’ll come out like magic but don’t do it if you doing state work cause the state inspector catch it he’ll have a fit. I did asphalt the first 19/20 years of my cdl but I got class A 5 years ago and been doing dump wagon ever since
Johnny Phillips “ mist” haha. I “ soaked” the spreader pan, the hinges , the coal Shute and esp the bed of the truck along with corners. I would have puddles of fuel oil laying on the bottom of that bed. I hauled ALOT of loads and mix . I never really did any state jobs . Not that it would have mattered . I still would have sprayed my bed down with fuel oil . Old habits are hard to break ✌️
Johnny Phillips I was a six wheeler driver for a long time . I hauled so much asphalt I could practically sit in the seat and the truck Would drive its self to the plant. I never hauled any mix in a semi. However, I’ve done a lot of excavating and working with a grinder in a semi. It doesn’t much matter to me . Semi or six wheeler . I never had a complaint about my driving. I’ve also done 48 and 53ft work . I mostly did intra or tri state sh__. I did containers for about 2 years . I can do that too.
I mix about a 1.25 gallons of diesel and .25 of fresh motor oil. It helps cover the diesel smell, changes the color so it doesn't look like diesel and works IMMENSELY better than diesel only. :)
also when you was leaving the paver after lowering your bed the paver operator was telling you to raise your bed to get any leftover asphalt out. probably missed it because the shovel hand was telling you to make a round at the same time
So the company who was doing the paving ordered up x amount of tons and the plant would store it in the silos ( more or less) fu__ that soap. It’s pretty useless. Depending on how bad the mix was sticking I would at some point pull over and soak the sh__ out of it with fuel oil . Did it 100s of times ✌️
Hey I been driving dump trucks for about a year and still haven’t done black top any spesific tips can you provide or a make a video on how to line up with the paver? Thank you man great vid.
@@BRIANVANDUYN asphalt box , I never done it. I’ve done where they scoop asphalt off the box, but never where I line up to paver and they push me I’m still nervous about it. Thanks..
Gee Brain , excuse me if I didn’t get excited on this ride along. After hauling at least 2000 loads of mix and probably double that in every thing else you can stick in a truck you might safely say I’ve been there and done that . Where do you hide the fuel oil ? ✌️
Usually about 12 to 15 lb of air pressure on the brakes depending on the size of the paver is enough to keep the truck against the paver to not roll out because the weight of the load will push the truck right out and u will loose all your load in front of paver but not so much that the paver can't push you
I got kicked out my first time doing paver. the operator just yells. Hes probably going through things.. another driver was on my passenger side to assist me but he yelled at him too. He didn’t give me one chance to redo. Signed out and left to another job site. Lessons are made by making honest mistakes. Nobody is perfect. Take it easy driver.
Damn man they dont put a orange flag at the end of the boom on the mill machine to help u see when to move ? Also gonna have to show ya how I hooked my bed sprayer up it's super simple anwill be a life saver if you do much asphalt
Shuttle buggy is a “Road Tec” term. That company developed the “Shuttle Buggy” which is essentially the same thing as your referring to. The shuttle buggy remixes the asphalt to prevent segregation of the mix due to temperature variations. It also will hold a little over 30 tons of mix if I’m not mistaken which allows for continuous paving without truck to paver contact which prevents bumps and comprises in the mat quality
@@BRIANVANDUYN at 600 the oil would be burnt off the rock generally 375-400 out the plant and depending on the distance to the job 280-320 going in the paver. But hey it’s your job to get the stuff from point A to point be not know the details of what you are hauling right 😂
How many tons u haul in them super dumps Justin said he hauls 20 tons I was like I'm from the south we have tri axle dumptrucks we haul 25 tons he said that's crazy
