My way of installing pavers in Pennsylvania is putting them on a concrete pad. I explain my reasons and show my techniques. Every situation is different and there are many ways to do things but I found this way best for my circumstances. All My videos are my ways and ideas, I always suggest anyone doing any type of work to consult professional help. www.amazon.com...

Great work Mike. I'm a new yorker now living in Minnesota , my house has pavers popping and sinking all over the place. The way to do it back in NY is the way you're doing it. Every cement guy I have out here giving me estimates thinks I'm crazy when I suggest the concrete pad under. These are all highly rated guys on Angie's list. It's almost like they want these issues so they can get lots of repair work.

+7418max I don't know what to say, most of the landscapers around here put it on a pad, I think a concrete pad is cheaper and easier and I never get sinking problems, thanks mike

I love the process your're using "rock and the concrete pad". Living in Iowa we have some of the same issues with ice and the frost level depth and the lifting of the walkway or patio. I'm planning a large DIY patio here at the house with stone.

I appreciate all of your input in the comments below, and I wonder if you could talk about the busted corner piece of concrete at 3:35 in this video? How'd it happen, what concerns you have with it, and if/how you fixed it? Thanks!

@raymondhogue1
@raymondhogue1 4 года назад
Joseph Luckert no I believe he said concrete mix, quick set kind...from this company( Quickcrete ) but really if you use Portland I’m pretty sure you have to add somethings like sand to make the mix. You would have to look up the mixer on how to make concrete from Portland and sand.
@josephluckert3357
@josephluckert3357 4 года назад
@@raymondhogue1 Hi. Thanks. I think so to, but thought I'd check. I recall another one of Mike's videos for pavers and I thought he used a 50/50 mix of Portland and sand for the border pieces and to prevent interior pavers from rocking. The pad I layed for my pavers has some high and low spots (damn it). Mike makes it look easy.

Hi Mike, Thanks for the videos! i live on Long island, NY. I removed a solid cement sidewalk and want add a paver walkway. There were no cracks in the old sidewalk and no gravel under it. Do I still need to put gravel under a 2 inch cement base for the pavers? Also, if I do not get the cement base level and the pavers rock a little, will the polymeric sand hold them in place or do I have to level the base of the paver with something? thanks, J
@MikeHaduck
@MikeHaduck 7 лет назад
Hi Joanne. I am do not have a clear picture what you are asking but, as long as they stay there, I go 3 inches, you should be fine and the polymeric sand does steady them up, I hope it helps, thanks mike

I've been watching your videos now for a while, unfortunately I didn't start in order. I have a question I saw your video on pavers especially when you went to China and Scandinavia. You seem to be impressed with the fact that they didn't use concrete. Why did you use concrete here and not just gravel the way they do in China in Scandinavia?
@MikeHaduck
@MikeHaduck 6 лет назад
Hi Mark, from years of experience I know I will not be getting call backs from it be heaved up by our winters, I know I would not be digging it up , no pipes , no weeds, sidewalks like Scandinavia and china have got a big base of modified and they would have to keep tearing it up for repairs. every situation is different, thanks mike
