Being from Ireland 🇮🇪 it's great that you covered this case. Sarah Corbett has written a collection of children's self-help books that deal with grief and how to process it. Jack is a singer/ songwriter. They are in good hands now.

@davidbeckey8188 that's why in Japan the first person who kidnap the children automatically gets complete 100% custody of them. Downside: many good parents, who never did anything wrong, are forever 100% separated from their children. No right whatsoever to see them again. Enforced by the government. Including many foreigners married to Japanese people. It's crazy. Google it.

Well, well Dr. Grande is in my home county. This was tried in my home town. They may have had a WS zip code, but they were in Davidson County. I have thought about suggesting this case before, but never have. It has been very divisive. I lean toward guilty as well. There are a couple of members of my book club that believe they were railroaded. That is not insignificant because we all largely agree on politics and social issues. I was genuinely surprised they were found guilty because my region tends to favor people who look and act like us. I was impressed we 'got it right.' I was disappointed the conviction was overturned.

Jason's sister wrote a book, My Brother Jason. It tells of Jason's life and unfortunate, cold- blooded death caused by the Martens. It's a very good read. The Martens are guilty. My husband and I attended the trial. Tom Martens took the stand to attempt to take the fall for his murdering daughter. God Bless Jason's children and his family. ❤️

@ Rita Haddad I wonder does Mr Martens realise how badly he was olayed bt his daughter? This was all over the news in Ireland. It was a very sad case. Those poor children, losing their father because their stepmother decided to kill their father so she could get custody.
@ritahaddad8862
@ritahaddad8862 2 года назад
@Mary Kavanagh the whole Martens family lives a lie! They employed the uncle to spin all their lies too. Her father-- Tom-- knew good and well what his daughter was capable of as he saw all her failures and all her demands. She left a fiance to go to be a nanny in Ireland; she leaves a path of destruction wherever she goes. I believe her dad was more than ready to have his problem become Jason's. They've been keeping her issues a secret for so long. She had just left Emory Hospital before she flew to Ireland.
@SorrowAvenue
@SorrowAvenue 2 года назад
@Rita Haddad I may not be incredibly familiar with this case, however, it sounds like Jason was a complete narcissistic asshole. While striking someone to death is definitely not the appropriate means to resolve the situation, if you think strangling a woman over an altercation was acceptable; you’re a very dangerous person.
@ritahaddad8862
@ritahaddad8862 2 года назад
@Sorrow I never said the strangling was okay. As far as the case is concerned, I attended the trial and it seemed molly hit poor Jason while he was in the bed and agitated him awake. A fight insued. Research the case more than the fabricated reality I'm sure the Martens shared with you.

@@brigidspencer5123 Just be SURE you read the labels, or even ask someone at the store to make sure you don't get the cheap-o "Self Defense" paving bricks... They need to be "exterior grade water-proof" for life in the rainforest. Even "water resistant" probably isn't quite good enough... Alternatively, you could "go natural" and get a couple nice polished "Marble Flag-stones" adequate for nearly any table-surface... slick enough the water just BEADS off like plastic... ...If that proves a tad too much for your budget (understandable in renovations), it's feasible to "laminate" the marble (or any other stone) for nearly the same effect at a significant reduction in cost.It's really all the polishing stages and different grades of diamond-grit required that makes it so expensive for the "wet look". ;o)

I’m from Ireland and have been following this story from the start. Molly Martin is a disturbed individual, possibly spoiled and a manipulative person. Her father hated Jason, and maybe felt he wasn’t good enough for her. Tom Martin treated Jason’s family with contempt, saying they were loud in their behaviour when they visited America. In actual fact, Jason’s family were a typical Irish family, close knit, warm, and loving. Molly knew that Jason saw through her deceit, and was thinking about returning to Ireland, to have the children near his family. Since Jason’s sister got custody of Jack and Sarah, they are having a wonderful life here, with Sarah even writing a book about grief, which is helping children everywhere. I believe Tom Martin to be egotistical and full of his own importance, who gave his daughter anything she wanted, and because the relationship was floundering, he decided to do something about it, knowing that Molly would keep their beautiful home and hoping she would get custody of the children, which is what she wanted. Whilst nobody knows what went on behind closed doors, the vicious and violent death Jason suffered, was calculating and in my opinion premeditated by father and daughter. Strange that Molly’s mother never made an appearance in all of this, unless she was doing what she was told by Tom. We’ll have to wait and see the outcome of the new trial.☘️

I totally agree that it was a premediated and planned killing of a man who realised that for both his own sake and for the good of his children he needed to return to Ireland. Molly Marten is a troubled person which probably can be traced back to her family upbringing.

Okay... Admittedly, I found an antique building brick and used my angle-grinder and a diamond blade to carve it into an ashtray for a buddy's dad... The old man was a mason, and it seemed like the perfect Father's Day thing, since the old guy loved an occasional (remarkably expensive) cigar... BUT it was not a paver... and not even a cobblestone. I found out later (from the old man) that it would've been worth some real money if I hadn't done the carving... BUT he actually really liked the thing... ...I kind of think he was voicing being impressed that I hadn't just decided to find out its worth and get the cash, instead... It was my buddy (his son) who'd pointed out that it was an antique at the time... ;o)

For the state to offer such an enticing compromise, tells me they don't have enough beyond and to the exclusion of every reasonable doubt. It's a risk. David Gonzalez - there IS enough evidence. All the prosecution has to do is question Tom Martens about his police statement, where he says he woke up, jumped out of bed, retrieved the baseball and ran upstairs and he is immediately guilty. His is photographed in the police pictures fully dressed with his shoes on. Who jumps out of bed fully dressed? Tom Martens should’ve been in his pyjamas or at least some under garments to make his story somewhat credible. All those years in the FBI taught him nothing about staging a crime scene 🤦🏾‍♀️

I'm not certain what that offer actually was, as minimal to one may be draconian to another. I do absolutely think that they were guilty. It concerns me as to why the state would extend such an offer, and not for one but for both of them. It's difficult enough to get a guilty verdict for one of the accused but for both, seems a tedious undertaking for a prosecutor. I guess we shall see, as they will be retried. Let's keep a close watch. Let's wager a Pepsi...lol

@@DavidGonzalez-ov5dx My thoughts exactly. When I heard they had offered a deal I knew it meant the case wasn't good. The American justice system is very harsh compared to other western countries, so they don't just offer a deal for the sake of it. If Molly had any sense she would have waited to commit the crime here on holiday in Ireland. She probably would have got 20 years and our one female prison has very good conditions. If you are a lifer you can even apply to live in an apartment on the prison grounds. Not so in North Carolina. She is an idiot for not taking the deal or waiting to commit the crime in Ireland.

As a native North Carolinian, I feel like I can speak on behalf of the Great State of North Carolina when I say that we all pretty much believe that Jason was brutally murdered by his psycho pathological liar of a wife, and her father. Clearly the father wears rose colored glasses and believes whatever narrative his daughter spins, and unfortunately for him, he will rot in prison (hopefully 🤞) because of it. At first glance this case makes you want to believe that the daughter/father where truly defending themselves, but after you learn that Jason had HER prescription meds in his system, the lack of any defense wounds/physical injuries on herself or her father, and learning that she made up a little sister who supposedly lost a battle with cancer at a young age, AND also hearing that she made up lies about her pregnancy while carrying Jasons daughter (even though she is only a stepmother)…. It’s really hard not too see the truth of what really happened in this case. I feel so sorry for Jason’s Kids and his family in Ireland. I pray that justice is served and that Molly and her Father are punished to the full extent of the law.

Never once did I say he wasn’t guilty. I never once said he didn’t deserve his punishment. He deserves to rot in prison just like his daughter. But it does not take a rocket scientist to figure out that a fathers love for his daughter (no matter how psycho the daughter may be) did play a part in this. He loved his daughter so much that he literally threw away all common sense and rationality out the damn window. In his fucked up mind he truly thought he was above the law and he believed that being above the law was enough to excuse his and his daughters actions. He was an idiot who chose to murder his son in law because he thought in some fucked up way that “it was saving his daughter”…which we know is a crock of shit…But he never murdered anyone before this (that we know of), so to say that his being a father played no role in his actions would be ignorant. But let’s get down to the nitty gritty here…here…in his warped and sick mind he saw his daughter as the victim, no matter how many red flags there were throughout his daughters lifetime that would lead a normal person to get the daughter some sort of psychiatric care (she was a proven pathological liar among other things). Some parents can do some really fucked up shit if they believe it’s in the best interest of their child.

I liked your break down of this. At first I thought the scenario that was given was true. I couldn't imagine a father and former FBI agent doing these things. After your analysis, it's clear how Molly manipulated her father, played on his emotions to protect her. Certainly, her parents must have noticed this girl was a pathological liar. Reminds me of Casey Athony and the dynamics in that family. Did Molly's parents always bail her out as well, turn a blind eye to bad behavior?

Domestic abuse victims try to protect their families including any tyrants within. This causes a huge resentment buildup and I can see how her father was ready at any given moment to protect his daughter when he heard the commotion. He obviously knew what was going on in his daughter’s marriage and him being a cop didn’t hesitate to protect her in an instant.
@agf1700
@agf1700 10 месяцев назад
Molly Martens was NOT a Domestic Abuse Survivor. SHE was the Abuser. Verbally belittling Jason Corbett at every turn in front of their friends, calling him Fat etc. You think that shows she was afraid of him? She never reported any abuse to Police or to her Doctor and never showed any physical signs of abuse. Her friends that testified all said they heard about the abuse from HER. They never really witnessed any abuse. She filled her sleeping pill prescription just 2 days before the murder and HER prescription medication was found in his body during the autopsy. Given that neither Molly Martens nor her father had a defensive mark on either of them, I think it would be fair to surmise that Jason Corbett was attacked when he was sleeping. He probably literally didn’t know what hit him. Jason Corbett confessed to a friend shortly before the wedding that he realised Molly Martens had mental health issues but felt he couldn’t back out of the wedding as it was too close to happening. Given her lies about losing a non existent baby sister, about being friends with the children’s biological Mother, about her delivery complications in the birth of the daughter, Molly Martens had a very complicated relationship with the truth about anything. Molly Martens visited a Divorce Attorney within weeks of the marriage to ask what her custody rights to the children would be in the event of a divorce. She was told ‘none’. The only way was if she adopted the children then she would have the same legal rights to the children as their Dad. Jason Corbett refused to allow Molly Martens to adopt the children going so far as to keep the children’s passports in his work office. The day after the murder, Molly Martens paternal Uncle (also ex FBI) showed up at the Company where Jason had worked demanding the keys to his office and retrieved the passports. It looks from an impartial viewpoint that this was a premeditated murder motivated by Molly Martens desire to keep the children since Jason Corbett had planned on leaving her and moving back to Ireland with his children. She knew this was her last chance.

I know this case well. The reason he didnt want her to adopt his children is because he knew she wasn't quite right. He knew he was going to leave her. And why would she want his children anyway if they got a divorce? She knew time was running out and he was going back home with his children so she drugged him and killed or nearly killed him with a brick. The father in order to protct his daughter finished him off with the bat and created a story. Her- 1st degree murder. Him - 2nd degree. But I fear because of his government status these two are going to walk. Lesson to anyone- Be real careful who you let in your childrens lives. Being alone isn't all that bad. Update: The murderer father and daughter duo have Now started up a new narrative in a bid to evade justice: suggesting that their victim's first wife was murdered by him - which has prompted disgust and outrage from that lady's family here in Ireland, understandably furious that their loved one's death is being used as a prop by these two calculated murderers, who did everything they could to set up narratives about their victim after he wouldn't let his American wife adopt his children. Then they drugged him, and violently murdered him when he was asleep. And Now, years later, Nowwwwww they're suddenly suggesting that "Hey, Who Knows, Maybe He Murdered His First Wife? So, Uh, Yeah, Maybe He Did, So That Justified Us Murdering Him, Because, Uh, Because... Because We Were Afraid Of Him! That's It! Genius!" Absolutely nauseating couple, who murdered a man who realised his American wife was a nut, and was going to leave her to take his beloved children Home to Ireland - to which She responded by Murdering him, and orphaning his children. It'd be fair to say that she and her father are the two most hated Americans, here in Ireland.

I mean, this guy was widowed, so all he had to worry about was his life...and he STILL got screwed. I have a BB gun down in the kitchen...a paving brick on the nightstand doesn't sound TOO crazy...unless you have a spouse on the other side of the bed, and you're not getting along so well.
