omg I have to go there. It's so hard to find dog-friendly places and I cannot leave my dog tied up outside, for fear someone may steal him. Like would you leave your kid tied up outside? More places should do this. The whole thing of people saying that some people have dog phobias and we should respect them is ridiculous. Heaps of people have people phobias and we still let people into shops. I hope that in the future more businesses see that bringing dogs into your bar or cafe is actually beneficial. There is a greater chance I will want to spend my money if I know a place is dog-friendly. Go Chapel St Precinct!!!!!

There are only two dog friendly places were I live. One is PetSmart which is pet a pet store so of course you see people with their dogs in there and the other is half price books. They have a sign on the door saying don't to leave your dog in a hot car they are welcome in the store. Also on tying up a dog outside while you go in a store isn't a good idea. There was a really sad Bondi Vet with Dr. Chris where a man tied his little terrier up outside while he ran into a shop and while he was in there a man came along and let the dog go so he could steal the leash. The poor little dog got run over and he brought him into Bondi Vet but they couldn't save the poor little thing. They way they knew wat happened was there was a camera on the street that recorded the man stealing the leash off the little dog. A very sad episode.

@@crystalheart9 100% agree exactly why I could never leave my dog tied up.

I hear you and love animal-friendly places, but just wanted to point out that the reasoning behind shops not allowing dogs isn't usually about fear, but rather about allergies. My husband is French, and struggles so hard about going out anywhere there (since restaurants, cafes, etc. all allow dogs) due to his allergies. And soooooo many people have pet allergies! People might be afraid of other humans, but won't be allergic to them... I wish there were just a good balance and plenty of places for people and pets of all types. That said, we love animals, and have a fluffy rescue cat of our own... I just vacuum a LOT and try to keep the cat off his pillow.

So not somewhere you want to live if you have allergies, don't get me wrong I love dogs but I hope there are as many options for people with allergies. People seem to show more consideration to food allergies than they do for other allergies

Ahhhh that's absolutely my husband. Dogs are allowed everywhere in his home country of France, and he struggles... we might be halfway through a meal, and then a lovely doggo will be seated at the table next to us... cue the onset of watery eyes! Although we still love animals dearly!! That said, it's normal for people to pay closer attention to food allergies, as they provoke anaphylaxis much more often (I could only find statistics that around 5 Americans die daily from anaphylaxis due to medicine, food, and insects - and that it is "extremely rare" to experience anaphylaxis from pet allergies... to me that indicates a large difference, although it's too bad there's not any hard data on it).

@@sarahberlaud4285 yeah I absolutely love dogs and I'm fine with a runny nose/eyes but as a kid it would have triggered my asthma. A lot of people grow out of those allergies. But after my cousin died from her astma I know my dad wouldn't have dared to take me anywhere if pets were allowed everywhere. And it's not just food allergies that are shown more consideration phobias are as well. Since I don't want to make my allergies worse again I got snakes as pets and I've been turned away when looking for apartments because concern of people's phobias. But cats that are way more dangerous than my ball pythons are allowed to roam free.

@@annabergman1166 First off, although it was clearly a long time ago, I'm so sorry about your cousin. That must have been just heartbreaking for your entire family... and I'd totally understand your parents keeping you away from furballs from that point on (something similar happened to my grandmother's older sister... they were hit by a drunk driver and my grandma's 11-year-old sister was killed. They never travelled anywhere again, and used the car as little as possible. This was back in the 20s, so cars were only just catching on anyway, but the trauma of it lasted forever.) Ahhh I hadn't considered asthma (which is different from allergies, of course), that's a great point. As for phobias being taken into account, it's hard for me to judge... here in Japan, unless you're the owner of your apartment or house, usually no pets are allowed. You can find some (more expensive) dog-friendly places, though. Our landlord lives next door and adores us, and allowed us to secretly get our cat (older, calm rescue who just wants to sleep under my knees all day - even when it's 38 degrees out lol!). I think that it's great that you have snakes, and would definitely not mind you being my neighbour, fwiw :) Actually, we used to live in southern rural Japan, and snakes are common "pets" there... they're wild, but are really loved. They live in the attics of houses, and help keep the actually dangerous things away. I hope you've been able to find a wonderful apartment... at least you know that once you find a place where the landlord is accepting, you shouldn't have any further issues. Hope you've got such a place now!
