Being a Lionel collector there are few things that I agree with and disagree with this clip. One, they should not have split the set. As a collector, I am looking for a complete set because it makes the set be more valuable in the long run. Also, that is primarily what standard gauge is known for. Two, the price was moderate. Yes, it is not a rare set, they have to make money, and the condition was rough, but I think at $1,000 there would have been a big enough resale margin. Overall, I would have paid for what the seller was asking and even ask if the accessories were for sale as well. In particular, the street lamp. Original street lamps from 1923 are extremely rare and go for crazy prices. In the end, I think this was a moderate deal, better than others, but I'm only voicing my opinion from a collectors vew point.

I have a double Lionel set and the same engine but not the coaches and I have a little later model of them but everything on it works even the liquid and spot to put the steam for the other engines it’s amazing how much it’s been through and how good condition it’s still in

Chum really erkk’d me when he couldn’t even lend a helping hand to the old man build an entire train set,, I’m satisfied knowing Chum had to disassemble the set afterwards.(hopefully by himself with no help). How lazy can a fat f*** be? Great ending tho.

Restoring it completely devaluates it. Collectors want original pieces even in fair condition. BTW the oldest Lionel trains are from 1900.

@@TONY_FEZ Well, a lot of it is obviously scripted, but I have seen some of this merchandise (from the TV show) for sale on their website. My guess is they really bought it from the people featured, but the sell was staged or recreated for entertainment purposes.

@@ronniewatkins5473 interesting - i thought everything about the show was fake. A friend went to the shop is Las Vagas and said it was basically just a merch shop for the show - no sign of any of the cast.

I wouldn't give it to a shop who is just gonna sell it separately. If I was him, would give to my kid or grandkid who wants to keep it or use it. I can trust them better with it than anyone. It's a beautiful set that I would hate seeing go to waste.

THIS. I grew up in the 80s and was blessed with a dad that loved his old Lionel trains, and he worked on the railroad. So, this type of stuff was a big part of my life. Still is. The railway industry put food on our table and clothes on our back, and to have toys that represented the real thing, were fun to play with and even worked with my GI Joe stuff....it was just a lot of fun. I miss these old toys, that time, my dad....all of it. I would have give that guy a couple of thousand bucks for that particular set. It appeared to be a nice one.

They can but people forget this is a PAWN shop. It's not an auction house, ebay, or antique store. It's a pawn shop that just happens to deal in higher priced items. Honestly this dude is lucky he wasn't dealing with Rick. Rick wouldve offered him 500. This guy got pretty close to his original asking price just short of a couple hundred. The saddest episode I ever saw was a girl who brought in a WWII Paratrooper bicycle and she got so lowballed. She got such a low number compared to what it was actually worth and agreed solely because she was ignorant on its history.
