I think it's the other way around. People are curious about there item and usually know very little about it and are happy to have someone appraise it free of charge.

I think Rick's favorite trick is to say "what's your best price" to try to get you to give him the absolute minimum then try to pull you down from there by counter-offering even lower. I always root for the seller to simply repeat their asking price when he does that.

As we know 99% of these are all set up. If you are going in to a pawn shop to sell something you always go higher than what you want. He wanted 12500 he should have asked 15k. The buyer will then place his/her counter offer and you agree to meet somewhere in the middle. What gets me is if this photo has already been authenticated, then why is there no evaluation of its price for, at least, insurance purposes. There would be no way then for the “expert” to dispute this, especially as Rick would have told him what he was going to be looking at and how much he is wanting, so he under values it. Likewise if you went in to a store you would do exactly the same, Rick asks 10k you offer 6k. It’s an old system of bartering for goods that is still used in hundreds of countries, India, Goa, Egypt, Tunisia, Morocco, Turkey, etc, etc, etc. We have bought loads of things when visiting these places for far less than they were asking and a lot cheaper than we would have paid back home in the UK.

@@hartnathan97 the seller said he thought he could get a quick buy but Rick's response was look around here at all this other stuff that he thought would be a quick sell. He's got a lot of money tied up in things that have probably been sitting for years not to mention the valuable space it's taking up. The longer it sits the more it's prone to theft. It disrupts your money flow. You can't otherwise spend that money on other things to invest back into your business.
