There is a lesson here. If you want to sell a rare book, go to a rare book shop. Not only will they give you a fair price for it, but they have the resources and connections to see that the book gets into the hands of a collector. I can't think of anyone that walks into a pawn shop trying to find a first edition of a book, but many will go to book stores because they can put the word out to other stores to see if anyone knows if there is one available somewhere.

@@kevinabernardo yeah most probably. He always say these items will stay in his inventory for a long time, but I think being on TV makes it easier to find buyers for these. It is not like in American Pickers when they sometimes show how much they sell the items for (and I would believe their overhead costs running around the country are way higher than Rick's)

When Rebecca says it’s the original binding put on by Robert Aiken (Akin?) in 1779, the way her eyes lit up in pure marvel, you KNOW this is a special book to own. It really does sink in, the idea that a book that old in it’s original format survived to this day is simply remarkable!

Where is the education in the USA the American rebellion was fought by British regulars and militia against British immigrants who formed militias in some British colonies (not all where left wing commie lunatics wanting equality and everyone to have the right to choose your officials ie Canada didn’t) and you still speak your native tongue English and as a country that as the highest tax burden on it’s citizens with state taxes and federal taxes how as it worked out for you

I actually have a modern copy of this book it’s awesome to see how good of an drill instructor Prussian American General Baron Friedrich von Steuben was in turning the American Army into a proper fighting force that could fight the British in a pitched battle. The first glimpse the British got of the new American Army was at Monmouth, New Jersey on June 28, 1778 after they came out of their encampment at Valley Forge, and they were shocked at how good the American soldiers had become thanks to von Steuben. PS von Steuben wrote the book but Alexander Hamilton and another aide John Laurens translated the book to English with the help of von Steuben’s secretary
