I played this beta and really enjoyed it. I have not been this excited about a game in years. I would have liked more time and more codes to get my friends in. You seem very negative about the game at this point. Gonna subscribe just to see if you stay this fucking jaded :)

Your right, they better come up with some incredible mechanic that promotes the social game play and have an incredible market system as well as improve the solo play grind.

My thoughts exactly, @papaofthewoods5979! Social gameplay needs to be both satisfying and compelling while not completely eliminating the individual. That said, I do also think we, as gamers, need to be more proactive and accepting of both sides. Thanks for the comment!

@@baelgrimhc True. But I don't see it happening. The notional way for a solo'er to be viable is to specialize, but the crafting professions are tightly interlocked to the point where the solo'er cannot progress except in most of them simultaneously. There's no solo niche -- there is nothing a solo player can do that a member of a large clan can't do better and vastly faster.

The 8:49 *average* means that for every player who played 50 hours there were 5 or 6 who played 1 hour. What I found odd is that they don't tell us how many people actually played the game. They also don't share total hours played, otherwise we'd be able to calculate it ourselves.

100%! We had ~168 hours of available alpha time. An 8H49M playtime effectively means the average player experienced 5% of the game. The devil's in the details. Kill counts, etc., start dropping or are left out altogether once we start seeing NPC data outside starter zones. That's because very few people actually made it beyond the first few hours, never mind the first few DAYS. This correlates with the drastic decrease in Twitch viewers I saw almost immediately after alpha 2 start. Infographics are made vague by both intention and design. Great comment @Sevrmark!

I know a lot of people that got invitations and they didn't wanna invest themselves into it and it goes poof. Its a special type of person who is cool with short demo plays.

I think it works if you truly want to jump in, playtest and give feedback to make the game better. That said, I think a big part of the problem with games these days is that publishers don't want to pay for private testing; nor do they want to invite enough people to do any closed beta testing. They want you to buy the game via early access and have you pay them to beta test instead. As my dad would say, "what a racket!" 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

Interesting view - glad you want to see the game improve rather than simply say 'not worth playing - don't bother'. Despite your jadedness and low expectations I do detect a glimmer of hope - particularly in your closing statements. I managed to play just over 8 hours myself and loved the game but I was too committed with real life to spend more than 8 hours in one week. I'd be interested in knowing the demographic - I'm curious to know who else might have had limited gameplay due to family and work commitments. I think you're reflections on the statistics were definitely, mostly, on the mark. I suspect however that the badger deaths might have resulted in players being called away to RL stuff mid-game (AFK) - only to come back ASAP and find their character dead. I didn't die to any badger but my style of gameplay is to come-and-go: 5 mins on, 5 mins off as I juggle RL with game time. I envy players who can play for longer periods of time. I can't imagine how the badger deaths could possibly have occurred through bad gameplay. I find it hard to imagine that those sorts of skills issues might exist. Would love to hear your thoughts. Are you in the Discord community for Pax Dei?

Thanks for the comment @fredboggles. You are 100% correct about my current sentiments toward the game. I very much want Pax Dei to succeed, but I also think it's time we, the gaming community, start taking responsibility for the role(s) we play in it all (I'll be covering this more in my next video coming later tonight). Also, the badger comment was meant to be a joke. I have a dry sense of humor that misses the mark more often than not. 😂 Also, also, yes, I am a member of the Pax Dei Discord. I have submitted my videos in the feedback channel there, as well as directly to the team!

@@baelgrimhc Lol - that's awesome - easy to miss some humor sometimes - appreciate the quip. I've actually been very happy with the level of communication between the devs and the community to date and this gives me hope. The devs are asking for and getting lots of feedback in the Discord - the level of communication between devs and player community seems really healthy. That's said, I think EA in Spring 2024 is ambitious to say the least. I would be happy for them to delay to work more on things but then, I'll be happy to pay for EA and play the game as a beta test (or extended alpha). I really don't mind if the devs need to erase my progress in the game to fix it and I'm going to be happy to give feedback on all the stuff I encounter that doesn't work properly so Spring 2024 EA is going to work for me. I believe you're right: the success of a game can rest with the players too (not just the devs). Looking forward to hearing what you have to say about the role we play in it all.

@fredboggles To be clear, I still maintain the same opinion I had in my alpha 2 review. If combat is vastly improved upon, I'm all in on Early Access. I really, really like Pax Dei and honestly WELCOME most of the social/community gameplay aspects. However, I don't think we reach the pinnacle of social gaming content by alienating those with valid, yet different, playstyles. I strongly believe a compromise will be necessary for everyone involved to receive their optimal Pax Dei experience. 🤷‍♂ Thanks again for commenting, @fredboggles!

The game will have to be carried by its building system. That's the only part mature enough for EA. Combat is in a very bad spot, and needs several more substantial iterations. Gathering and crafting ar every poorly tuned for grind. The social mechanics in it, especially clan structure and permissions, are crude. Text chat is barely useable.
