@@Hasanaljadid Not a fair comparison. The salary range for a Professional Soccer Player in the USA is from $49,125 to $58,857 per year. That does not include the World Cup. Soccer isn't considering anything in the USA compared to the NBA or NFL. Not a comparison at all.

Because we have 500 plus athletes competing, of course we can't pay our medalists as much as HK, which have 35 athletes competing.

In the USA they're in it for the win. Being able to say they did it. Not the paycheck. They don't get paid much of anything in comparison. Payment comes from endorsements.

Wait a minute, I thought the Olympic Games were restricted to amateur (unpaid) athletes only? Don’t they become professionals once they’re paid? Does that mean they can’t compete again?

@@shadycnetwork: The last time I took any interest in the Olympic Games was in the early 90s when the games were restricted to amateur athletes only. That’s what they were about and it had been that way for nearly a century. In 1992 the United States whined that they couldn’t win at tennis so the rules were changed to allow professionals in that sport and to stop the US from pouting. I was unaware of the rule change because I had lost interest in the games before it happened. Now I understand the rules have changed again to allow men to compete in women’s sports so I’m going to lose interest again for the next 30 years. Perhaps you should study a bit of Olympic history before making juvenile replies?

It's really all about money. America pays the most in media rights. And IOC doesn't spend much to help these countries host olympics. I'm not sure olympics is really Credible when you have the same countries winning over and over again.
