i wonder if the fouling machine could even go that far... like he could go further down a little bit and i don’t think it would pick it up on the sensor
I'm with you. I couldn't do this either. If I was playing the inside line and I had a choice to either go with loft or go to a weaker ball and play a different line, I'd take the weaker ball and play a different part of the lane. Possibly a weak reactive ball, urethane, or possibly even plastic and take my chances.
I probably could throw a little bit of loft myself, but not one handed either, and I'm kind of a big guy. I'd have to learn to throw it that 2 handed style to get that kind of loft like these guys, still I'd go shelling up on a bowling ball throwing something weaker and using my head instead of strength because I'm more old school when it comes to bowling.
@@famlitfamskitt2612 opportunities outside of bowling. I forget exactly what but it was talked about during one of the last times he was in a Would Bowling Tournament final
Ryan Shafer actually withdrew from the US Open because of all the lofting that happens there. He posted it on his Facebook a while back. "After watching B squad tonight and seeing the progression of the lanes, I have decided to withdraw entirely from the US Open. Due to my physical limitations (lack of significant ball speed, plantar fasciitis, and carpal tunnel), I determined that it was counterproductive to try and compete to the best of my ability on that condition. As it has been determined to be a 'required element' in today’s game to loft the ball over the left gutter cap at the the US Open, I am no longer capable of doing that without potentially hurting myself. I would prefer to prepare for the W.S.O.B. in Reno, starting November 6, 2017. It pains me to do this, because I have always looked forward to this event, and I have really wanted to win one of these in my career. But that time has passed. Thank you to all my family, friends and fans who came to watch this week. I apologize for my performance, or lack thereof.”

the harder patterns you bowl on, the less consistent you’ll be. i used to do the same thing trust me lol then i started bowling on pba patterns and i had to break that habit, it rlly screwed up my scores
That's hard on the lanes. Lots of times if you set the ball down a little sooner instead of lofting it the ball will go into a good roll quicker. I did this sometimes when they were oily.
In january I was bowling in the Zone Qualifiers for the Canadian Open, I lofted the ball so high and far, the ball never touched the lane until it hit the pins, it wasnt on purpose either.
it’s not really a stone 8 if the ball deflected off like that. the entry angle is very minimal when you play it so deep that it’s very easy to leave 2 pins, 8 pins, 2-8 double wood or 2-8-10s even if you miss by the smallest of margins. the ball deflected on entry due to the minimal entry angle and exited the rack at the 9 pin spot instead. that doesnt qualify as a “stone 8” but “going light and leaving a 8”
You know that there is a very bad lane problem when you need to borrow the next lane’s walking path just to get the ball to align to the 1-3 pin position for a strike.
I came from a video where people complained about balls being tossed in the air. Yet no one on here complains when a pro does it with balls 2x the weight lmao
I honestly can't believe these guys can chuck 16lb balls like that in the air as if they weighed 10 pounds. And also they throw it like 18 or 20 miles an hour. I can barely throw my 15lb ball 16 miles an hour lol
If its getting to the point where you need to loft like this, that is a huge problem. WRWJ hurt himself during that 1 US Open trying to loft and so did another it is not fair to them to put out a pattern that degrades so much in the fronts you are forced to have to to launch a 16lb ball into the hair 20 ft down the lane to strike...
@@flipper9038 We've replaced quite a few at our house, just from normal play, so I do know what I'm talking about... They're only 5/8" thick overall...
I dont understand why you would choose to loft rather than use a weaker ball. We dont get many oppotunities to bowl on sport patterns in australia. We dont have PBA experience leagues here. Ther hardest thing ive bowled on is a modified house shot lol.
If the fronts are really that burnt up (and they do get that burnt), even a weaker ball will either hook too much or will burn up in the lack of oil. lofting becomes way more necessary on sport shots too.
maybe they should include a rule about staying within the confines of your lane lol. some of these guys are in the other bowling areas. I understand there is etiquette but these guys are really taking the cake.
Say your least aggressive ball is hooking too much, sometimes this is what is needed. If you have a urethane ball, this wouldn’t apply because they hook so early this angle wouldn’t ever be applicable!
@@rh88841 Valenta's pitch (1:30 mark) was on a 52' pattern. There is no "back end" on that type of pattern and he ha already blown up the front of the lane. Lofting it was the only way he could get a proper roll through the pins.
It's not their fault tournaments let the lanes get that bad. They should be required to reoil after a certain point because conditions getting this bad is just ridiculous.
@@jakesnussbuster3565 it destroys the lane surface, even on synthetics. The house that had the us open a few years ago had to replace lane panels when it was all said and done
@@nicholaslloyd5623 in my experience, it is almost impossible to dent synthetic Lanes. if the lanes are wooden, then I sure as hell will not be lofting it.
the reason bowlers migrate left over the course of a tournament is because the oil in the front part of the lane gets stripped away. if there's no oil left in the front of the lane, you can't play there, period. your ball will always hook at your feet no matter how weak it is and it will never get to where it needs to be down-lane. this generally only happens when you have a lot of accurate high rev players bowling on flatter shots because the oil is less concentrated per board. i've bowled 8 game sweepers on house with plenty of high rev rate players and even in that environment, house shots have enough oil in the middle and front parts of the lane that once you move into that after the outsides dry up, you generally don't have to move much more for the rest of the tournament simply because of the insane volume. there's none of that on tour, hence loft.
@@natrixxvision6997 connor pickford tried doing that, he placed 126th. ej tackett tried going up the gutter with urethane, he finished 95th. none of the people that tried playing right made it to match play. they alternated between missing the headpin to the right and leaving every type of corner pin possible. pros know better than you. if moving back right worked, they would do it. it didn't and doesn't.
To me it seems the high loft is a very low percentage shot. To many things at play to make it consistent for 10 frames. There are other ways to combat the oil.
Thanks a lot for glorifying bowlers who abandon the ground game. Now the Sat AM Juniors will be trying to emulate this and beating holy hell out of the 60+ year old house where I bowl. Do people know that past the arrows the alleys the lanes are made of much softer pine wood? It should be an infraction to loft the ball past the 6-foot targeting dots. You should get zero for that throw.
I agree it’s loud and obnoxious and could even damage the lanes, that being said say a bowler is using their weakest ball, standing as far left (or right if you’re a lefty) as they can be and it’s still hooking too much? That’s what they will all do 100% of the time because that is what’s needed. They aren’t just going up settle for a bad game
