Have an issue with your PC giving you beep errors or other problems upon powering up and need a way to understand what's going on? You might consider one of these BIOS testing cards that read back the POST error codes.
This one in particular uses an 8/16-bit ISA bus or the successor 32-bit PCI bus. If you have a modern PC you'll likely have a PCI-Express (or PCI-E) based bus and therefore this card will not work for you (however there are diagnostic cards compatible with PCI-Express).
It uses a 4-digit segmented LED display to show POST codes in hexadecimal (0 to F) format. The first two digits are the most recent stored code while the last two digits is the prior code. Pressing/holding the onboard button cycles through different functions including scrolling up/down the stored codes, a special mode I'm not familiar with what it does and a self-test of the segmented display.
There are also 4 LED lamps to indicate power conditions (-12v, +12v, +5v, +3.3v) and another 4 LEDs for monitoring the system clock, READY signal, MESSAGE signal and the RESET signal. If for example the RESET signal stays lit when first powered on that usually means you have a short on the reset circuit (bad reset switch, wires or mainboard connections) or a faulty BIOS.
There is also a 5v buzzer and jumper connection on the tester if your mainbaord doesn't have an internal speaker and requires an external speaker like those found on PC cases. By connecting the card's speaker to the mainboard in testing you can then listen to any beep codes present (useful when bench testing outside a case). It also features a remote segmented display that can be plugged in to see the codes if the tester card is not visible (as if used in a PCI slot where the display is facing down) and can also control tester functions.

Per request I've found a scanned copy of the PC Analyzer booklet that comes with these types of cards. I keep a copy in my OneDrive if you lose yours or just want to check it out: 1drv.ms/b/s!AgWcy9Y7BuDAgbFR0otQO2bbKyCk1A?e=0UDDjE

Also if you have an older laptop with an LPT (parallel) port I also have a video on using one of those for testing ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-hIFH7xIXhbM.htmlsi=Gj3jQ2YCoFIgtGlD

So if it just posts - - - - And when the button is pushed it only shows the beginning and end for the test list And if pushed again it does the self diagnosis counter, but still the AMD motherboard I'm testing doesn't post anything on the monitor, tried to swap the ram sticks and tried multiple gpus, does this manual have a pdf version available? The amazon seller never provided one.

My old HP Compaq PC died a few months back, before it died, only one RAM slot was working, & I know why. A capacitor right next to one of the RAM slots blew. After the PC completely died, I presumed more capacitors blew due to its age, the PC was going on for 20 years old & PC's that old need to be recapped because if you don't replace the caps regardless if the PC still works, sooner or later you're going to face inevitable hardware failure. Capacitors don't last forever!

Great video. I didn't know the 4 digit codes are 2x 2digit ones even - Please can @mausolfb or anyone help me diagnose error code EE50? which is displayed when I start the pc using the diagnosis card. Thank you if possible for any suggestions.

You didn't specify the computer/mainboard you're testing with the card however I'd check the physical memory. Code 50 most often refers to memory initialization errors while EE is generally just referring to a memory issue.

I'm proud you know to troubleshoots a dead motherboard. But I need help a quick question my friend about my Asus P4P800-E Deluxe motherboard. This is my first time trying to resurrect/repair my dead motherboard. Only certain part I repaired and changed already the (1) BIOS chip, (2) capacitors, (1) IC-driver controller to mosfet, and (2) transistor mosfets (negative side body). I have the PTi9 LCD PCI Diagnostic Analyzer Tester...indicates LED lights of +12V, +5V, +3.3V and Reset are good (lights on) means no problem on transistor Mosfets anymore as I double tested too that 12Volts are running good. But the PTi9 LCD PCI Diagnostic Analyzer tester still telling me that there's signal error, it says check the CPU and power box (power supply is tested good all +12V, -12V, +5V & +3.3V) and the other two indicates that RST and FRAME are both Invalid shows in PTi9 tester. Also I'm seeing LED lights of Clk, FRAME, IRDY, and SYSClk are off, it shows in the PTi9 PCI Diagnostic Analyzer tester. I have the "Boardviewer" software (to see the schematic diagram of P4P800-E Deluxe board) that I clicked the CPU drawing part and looked at the RESET, looked at the motherboard then tested the Resistor that is soldered/connected on negative side that the value is correct that has no problem. The two pin reset doesn't work. I don't know about that FRAME. I touched the CPU processor it doesn't make any at least build up heat/warm. I tested the CPU processor from my other Asus motherboard, it's running fine. If you have time, please try to look on the Boardview in part of the RESET pin because it's not working. What part of the motherboard should I trouble shoot on that P4P800-E Deluxe? This part I'm lost already. I need help, any idea? Great help would be appreciated so much.

What chipsets are motherboards or laptops can this be used with? DDR3 ddr4? Cuz I noticed the pins on the cards are much different than the DDR3 or 4 laptop PCI slot or any slot for that matter. Is this just for really old laptops?

It's for desktop PCs, Laptops don't have any PCi or ISA expansion card slots. You'd probably have to look for a laptop diagnostic analyser card. Doesn't work with PCi-e slots.

What is the double pin connector near the small speaker used for? Where do you plug in the other end of the short 2 pin jumper wire?
@mausolfb
@mausolfb 5 месяцев назад
That’s for the PC internal speaker if it doesn’t have one so you can hear the POST beep codes. There’ll usually be a four-pin connector on the main board labeled “speaker” that provides +5v and ground for a buzzer/speaker.

Thanks for the overview, the Manual does an awful job at explaining the simple things. (e.g Which error came first, that you can cycle through them etc.)

Wow very good video, clear explanations, high quality camera shots, and very thorough. Just when I think I understand everything, the basics, you keep going and explain every angle of functionality. Best video I've seen on the topic!

I've got an ASUS TUV4X that I'm trying to diagnose and got the same (or very similar) card. Unfortunately, using the PCI slot while all the LEDs turn on the segmented display just shows "-- --". If you have any ideas I'd love your feedback! Otherwise much appreciated showing how it actually is supposed to work 😅 the manual is decent but could be more clear.

I saw a card without a speaker. it's not really needed right just the code will indicate the error also. Did you have no Post Beep or Video Signal ether without the debug card installed?

Thank you. This helped a lot. Especially since my manual has the codes only and that’s it.

Great video. I have a pc that is freezing at the bios logo screen. I also get 4 dashes when I use this. Have you any idea what this means as it's not included in the codes?

I’m about to test but I think the card is in upside down when it does that. It works on my other 486 that has a riser. I’m about to test shortly
