More common than you think. And this isn't just for editors. I literally know a lot of IT-grads who knows how to program and shit, but is bollocks when it comes to hardware. Most of the reason is cause they really just took the degree because it's "easy to get a job", not because they had passion for it.

I actually played this game with no prior knowledge of PC's, and it even helped me diagnose my laptop which refused to boot to windows. It gave me the basic of the basics, but it was a good start.

This game was basically my starting point when i was thinking about building my own rig. While super basic it gave me a good place to get familiar with the key vocab, learn to think about comparability, etc. Was an excellent confidence booster to believe that I could learn what I needed

I know this is not the most accurate game, but it's gotten much better over the years. It's definitely very fun to play (IMO), I think if Linus gave it another shot today he would enjoy it more. The improvements aren't massive, but they're there, and as a game - it's good.

As someone who does this for a living: The customers in the game make way too much sense. In my experience they tell you the PC was struck by lightning but they just forgot to press the Source button on the monitor. And after showing them you will be greeted by 5 fake Anti Virus programs and 10 Driver Update tools and 20 Internet Explorer toolbars.

100% true. Some 11 years ago I fixed a family members computer. They had like 14 toolbars and well over 10000 files to remove from 3 different scanners. I removed their iexplorer icon and renamed firefox. They never even noticed the difference. Wasn't quite as bad after that...

I made over a million dollars in the game, I didn't know the 4gb ram sticks from an old computer don't match up to new circuitboards. They don't prep you for handling rigid cables leading from the SSD to the motherboard getting caught on the cooling fan, they don't prep you for bending the pins on the back of the CPU. It's an awesome game, but the devil's in the details.

Well this is awkward, I learned how to build my pc mainly from PC building simulator. Its just important to know that not everything is going to perfectly cooperate with one another. But I learned even that after 20hours in. I tried to learn this actively so 20hours is acceptable for me. Hope this comment helps someone in any kind of way possible.

If you try to come up with the right parts of your PC then I suggest to look the numbers up on google (for example: "How do I know how high the number on the PSU should be" and stuff like that) But you can find most information for cooperating components in the detailed description of the motherboard (for example: "max RAM Frequency=3200MHz" and stuff like that)
